The Different Levels of Complication For Taking The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Exams Posted on hubpages Anyone that is in the I.T. world knows that CCIE certification is the ultra high end certification in the field, and is also really hard to obtain. This being, is there are only a handful of people that take this exclusive exam, pass it. For one that wants to venture out and take this grueling exam, for passing, one has to start preparing at least six months before the date of the test. One has to make a dedicated study for at least five to six hours each day. The object is to master a subject and finish it before starting another one. If you leave one half done, you will have to frequently go back to previous subjects, only not to remember the last one. Only to be a waste of time and energy. For most, passing the CCIE lab examination requires studying as much as a thousand hours, and maintaining a focus that leaves everything else aside. The costs itself can be grueling. This includes purchasing of books, preparing courses, rack rentals, exam fees, and not to mention the travel costs if you opt in trainings or bootcamp. The CCIE has been considered one of the most difficult certifications in the IT industry, since its launch in 1993. It consists of two parts: a written exam, and a practical lab test. It is also offered in five tracks. They are, Routing and Switching: Security: Service Provider: Storage networking: and Voice. The most popular track being Routing and Switching. The lab exam is difficult because it tests practical, problem solving skills. Test takers have eight hours in the lab to properly configure and trouble shoot Cisco network gear. They need to get eighty percent of the possible points to pass. Passing the lab exam requires hands on experience, speed, and the ability to remain calm and collected in facing extreme pressure. The other part of the exam is the written part. This, they say can be the easier part of the exam. The written exam consists of multiple choice and fill in the blank questions. People usually pass this part the first or second time. Each year around twelve thousand people take the CCIE written exam. The written exam is easier because it’s a theory exam. People generally try to study for it sitting down with a book and reading it. You can’t just do that with the lab part of the test, because you need hands on training. Around eight thousand people take it. Yes it is estimated that the exam can cost up to sixteen thousand dollars, but is well worth it in the long run. But passing the exam means prestige and money for most network engineers. It is said that eighty percent of the network engineers who pass, report increased status on the job, while seventy percent get cash rewards, according to a survey taken in 2010. So this exam may be difficult, but if it a must, it has its benefits and rewards.
