After Jesus and his disciples left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons. The Prayers of the People Holy and Most Gracious God, we pray for our siblings who live in every state of need this night. We pray for those in need of shelter, and the dignity that comes from having a place to call home. We pray for those around the world, around the country, and in this very city who will go to sleep hungry this night. We pray for those who are persecuted and punished for the color of their skin, what they believe, where they come from, how they worship, or who they love. We pray for those whose desperation, vulnerability and innocence are leveraged for profit. We pray for those who are afflicted in body, mind, and spirit, and call out in the night for relief. We pray for those who live in constant fear of violence on their streets, from their skies, in their houses of worship, and in their homes. We pray especially for children who have never known a life free of fear and need. We pray for those who have died and see no more, especially for those who have given the last full measure of devotion for the cause of freedom and dignity, that they may find rest in the place you have prepared for them. Grant us, O God, a sense of purpose to use our many blessings, talents, and privilege to house the homeless, feed the hungry, liberate the persecuted and oppressed, heal the sick, comfort the grieving, make peace in our world, and by your grace bring about your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

As we see others light candles, we recognize that we are all carrying prayer concerns known to us alone, and we are reminded to treat one another with kindness and care. Tapers and votives are located to the right of the altar and in front of the transept to the left. Please feel free to go to either of these places to light a candle. 4

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise.
We praise you, God of many names, whose Spirit runs free through all the earth, whose image lies deep in every mortal soul. In your grace your Word is made known to every people, calling forth the best they have to offer; your Beloved is immersed in the waters of creation healing the chaos that floods our world; your Son is the guest who offers new wine changing hearts grown withered and cold. Therefore we celebrate the rays of morning light that bathe the world in glory and kindle a new song: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. We ask that your Holy Spirit will fall upon us and upon these gifts that these fragile, earthly things may be to us the body and blood of our lord and brother, Jesus Christ; who, on the night that he was betrayed, gathered with his faltering friends for a meal that tasted of freedom. Calling them to his table, he took bread and broke it and said: “THis is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” In the same way after supper, he took the cup saying: “THis cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, to remember me.” As on that night, so here and now he offers himself in touch and taste beyond all words can hold. Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died Christ is risen Christ will come again. Therefore, in our eating and drinking we are filled with the life-giving presence of Christ; we proclaim him as creation’s host, transforming poverty into plenty in the reckless generosity of love. 6
Inspire us with the hope that one day death and greed will be no more, and people without number will come from east and west, north and south, to share the kingdom meal. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom and with whom and in whom in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory be yours, Mother of blessings, forever and ever. AMEN.
The Lord’s Prayer And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ; We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. Bread and wine; the gifts of God for the people of God. May we who share these gifts be found in Christ and Christ in us.
At the direction of the ushers you are invited to form a single line in the central aisle to receive Communion in front of the altar. Receive the Bread in the palm of your hand and the Wine either by drinking from the cup or by intinction, touching the Bread to the Wine. Gluten-free Bread is available; simply ask the priest. If you need Communion brought to you in the pew, please tell an usher.

Lord of the wedding feast, we thank you for sharing with us the abundance of your life: in the beauty of humility may we receive with joy the stranger’s gift, the water’s grace, the living wine of love’s desire. Amen. 7
