MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA Canada is delighted to be a part of Mining Indaba and to highlight our strong relationship with Africa’s mining sector. In fact, in 2015 companies head-quartered in Canada were among the leading investors in Africa, with exploration expenditures of about USD $260 million and about CAD $31 billion in assets, an increase of 16 percent over 2014. Canada has long been recognized as a global mining leader. More than half of all equity raised for mining is raised on the Toronto and Toronto Venture exchanges. Beyond this, Canada’s strong reputation in mining is also built on a solid foundation of innovation, environmental stewardship, local economic development and corporate social responsibility. Canadians recognize the need to develop mineral resources in ways that support environmental stewardship. Creating new partnerships and investing in clean technology and innovation are central to those efforts. Sustainable mining, in turn, helps to promote economic activity and reduce poverty. Indeed, Canada sees mining playing a critical role in helping to meet the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In order to maximize economic benefits for host countries, it is important to engage meaningfully with local communities, including women, youth, and Indigenous peoples. That is why the Government of Canada continues to work with local governments, civil society, the private sector, and community stakeholders to support strong resource governance. In addition, together with local partners, Canadian mining companies are creating opportunity and promoting economic development, meeting the highest standards of environmental protection, and respecting human rights. Canada is proud that our companies and industry associations continue to be recognized globally for their leadership in ethical, social, and environmental practices. Visit the Canada Pavilion to discover more about Canada’s expertise in sustainable mineral resource development. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish all of the delegates a successful and productive conference.

Honourable Jim Carr Minister of Natural Resources Government of Canada

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE CANADIAN COUNCIL ON AFRICA Dear participant, On behalf of the Canadian Council on Africa (CCAfrica), I welcome you to the Canada Pavilion at 2017 Mining Indaba. In partnership with Global Affairs Canada and Natural Resources Canada, we are excited to be leading the Official Canadian Delegation to 2017 Mining Indaba. This event would not be possible without the support of our partners, including 48e Nord International, Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE), Export Development Canada (EDC), Export QuÊbec, The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), The Mining Association of Canada (MAC), and Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). We would also like to thank our sponsors and delegates who have joined the Canada Pavilion. Last year, the Pavilion hosted 80 delegates; this year, it will be hosting over 100. Your participation strengthens Canada’s presence at Mining Indaba and has established Canada as a key player within responsible resource development in Africa. Establishing a Canadian business presence in Africa based on responsible resource development, is essential to driving sustainable economic growth and development in both Canada and the continent of Africa. Business partnerships between Canada and the continent of Africa are growing. In the last five years, Export Development Canada helped to facilitate more than $7.4 billion in business between Canadian companies and the continent of Africa. In 2011, Canadian companies had mining assets of over $31.6 billion in Africa. Natural Resource development is one of the vital contributors of economic development. The success of the Canada Pavilion has demonstrated that businesses in Canada are key partners, committed to responsible and sustainable natural resource development in Africa. As a premium sponsor of Mining Indaba since 2000, the Canada Pavilion hosts numerous networking events and programs for participants. These events encourage participants to build business partnerships; promote their services and technologies; and learn more about mining in Africa. I am excited that the Canada Pavilion is a place where Canadian businesses can be a part of the large Canadian presence at 2017 Mining Indaba. It is your space to network, hold meetings, and connect with other key partners. Since our creation 14 years ago, CCAfrica remains the only pan-Canadian and national organization dedicated to promoting trade and economic development between Canada and the continent of Africa. With offices from coast to coast, our network includes members from every sector of the Canadian economy, representing both the private and public spheres. CCAfrica organizes trade missions, seminars, conferences and networking events for our members. In 2016, CCAfrica renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Natural Resources Canada to coordinate and lead the Official Canadian Delegation to Mining Indaba. This agreement strengthens the Official Canadian presence at Mining Indaba and promotes Canadian leadership in the sustainable extraction of natural resources in Africa. Once again, we thank you for making the Canada Pavilion a success and we look forward to another great year at 2017 Mining Indaba.

MINING.CA | PARTNER

The Mining Association of Canada ADVOCACY STEWARDSHIP COLLABORATION

Pierre Gratton President & CEO Mining Association of Canada pgratton@mining.ca

Ben Chalmers Vice President, Sustainable Development Mining Association of Canada bchalmers@mining.ca

CORPORATE SUMMARY Exporting Canada’s expertise in environmental and social stewardship is one important way that Canada is contributing to responsible mining practices around the world. It is also something that the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has prioritized. In October 2016, Cámara Argentina de Empresarios Mineros (CAEM), the national mining association in Argentina, adopted MAC’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative. This is the second time, after adoption by the Finnish Mining Association, that TSM has been adopted by a mining association outside of Canada, and the first Latin American jurisdiction to do so. MAC freely shares TSM with other countries seeking tools to improve the environmental and social performance of their mining industries, including engagement with civil society and enhanced transparency and accountability. With Finland and Argentina’s adoption of TSM, the program is becoming a global standard for responsible mining practices. MAC and its members launched TSM in 2004. Implementation of the program is mandatory for all MAC members’ Canadian operations, but many voluntarily apply it to their international sites. TSM requires mining companies to annually assess their facilities’ performance across six important areas, including tailings, community outreach, safety and health, biodiversity, crisis management, and energy use and greenhouse gas management. The results are freely available to the public and are externally-verified every three years to ensure what has been reported is accurate. To ensure TSM reflects the expectations of civil society and industry stakeholders, it was designed and continues to be shaped by an independent, multi-stakeholder advisory panel. When adopted outside of Canada, the country can tailor its TSM performance areas so that they reflect the unique aspects of its domestic mining sector. As part of its implementation, the country must set up an advisory body to provide a valuable oversight function and to help guide the implementation process. The TSM performance indicators were designed to enable mining companies to meet society’s needs for minerals, metals and energy products in the most socially, economically and environmentally responsible way. One of the initiative’s key strengths is that mining companies are measured where the mining activity actually takes place—at the facility level. As such, the results provide local communities with a meaningful view of how a nearby mine is faring. TSM is the only program in the world to provide this level of detail for the mining sector, and it is a strength that makes TSM easily exportable to other jurisdictions. Today, communities around the world expect more of mining companies and the industry also expects much more of itself. Standards like TSM are one way that companies can help manage risks and avoid potential conflicts. As more mining companies seek best practices in environmental and social responsibility, we will continue to encourage the adoption of TSM as the right standard to meet their goals. 38

Canadians are leaders in developing successful mines around the world. Our mining companies account for almost 10% of the money Canada invested abroad in the last decade, improving the quality of life for millions of people. Through individual company actions and partnerships with government and NGOs, Canadian mining helps provide education, skills training, and jobs as well as opportunities for local businesses. We apply and share environmental expertise and help build up local social programs. Active in more than 100 countries, our members embrace their responsibility to ensure benefits for local populations and to protect the natural environment wherever they operate. CORPORATE SUMMARY With today’s mining industry facing tough challenges, Motion Metrics offers innovative solutions that use the latest machine learning and artificial intelligence technology to ensure mines operate with safety and productivity at the forefront of operations. Motion Metrics was founded in 1999 by Dr. Shahram Tafazoli, and initially focused on payload monitoring for hydraulic shovels. However, working in the mining industry quickly brought the problem of broken shovel teeth to the young company’s attention. Broken teeth are a major problem as they can get hauled away with the rest of the material and end up jamming the crusher, requiring a dangerous and costly removal process and long hours of downtime. Motion Metrics saw a lucrative opportunity and developed the unique camera-based missing tooth detection system that put the company on the map. Today, missing tooth detection and payload monitoring, along with in-bucket fragmentation analysis, tooth wear monitoring, and blind-spot surveillance make up ShovelMetrics™, Motion Metrics’ complete monitoring solution for shovels and excavators, now installed on over 240 shovels worldwide. LoaderMetrics™ for loaders uses a modified version of the missing tooth detection system using a thermal camera with a lens cleaning system and deep learning algorithms, which automatically detect when a tooth goes missing. Both systems maximize the amount of useful data collected by mining machinery while minimizing safety hazards, equipment damage, and downtime. Motion Metrics is also a leader in rock fragmentation analysis. When ShovelMetrics™ missing tooth detection was first deployed, Motion Metrics saw that the overhead bucket camera could also be used to capture valuable rock fragmentation data, which mines could then use to optimize their drilling and blasting parameters. Motion Metrics went to work developing an advanced algorithm to automatically calculate particle size distribution. This in-bucket fragmentation analysis solution is now used by ShovelMetrics™ clients around the world. In 2014, Motion Metrics unveiled PortaMetrics™, a game-changing solution solely for fragmentation analysis. PortaMetrics™ is a patented “point and shoot” tablet for on the spot fragmentation analysis. Using 3D imaging, this hand-held device measures particle size distribution and slope without the need for reference scaling objects. ShovelMetrics™, LoaderMetrics™, and PortaMetrics™ are designed to integrate with MetricsManager™Pro, a centralized platform to access all Motion Metrics system data. Mine personnel and support specialists can easily monitor each Motion Metrics system on their laptop, tablet or smartphone. MetricsManager™Pro provides real-time equipment status updates as well as in-depth tooth wear, shovel productivity, and fragmentation analysis reports. At Motion Metrics we take pride in the ongoing relationships we maintain with our clients. Our engineers travel around the world to perform everything from on-site installation and commissioning, to training, to scheduled maintenance and performance reports.

About Us The Mining Shared Value initiative of Engineers Without Borders is a nonprofit NGO improving the development impacts of the mineral extraction in host countries through increasing local procurement of goods and services. We work with mining companies, governments, communities and international organizations to encourage all actors in mining to improve economic and social development outcomes.

Why Local Procurement Local procurement epitomizes the positive role that the private sector can play in development. In host economies, purchases of local goods and services can create local jobs, 5 promote skills and technology transfers, strengthen domestic and international economic linkages, and aid in the formalization of the local economy. Local procurement benefits mining companies through strengthening relationships with host communities and lowers procurement costs in the long run.

At Indaba 2017 come see us to learn more about our two projects most relevant to mining and economic development in Africa:  

Our work with GIZ to create a common reporting framework for local procurement by mining sites Our research with CIRDI on local content regulations in South Africa and Namibia – being launched Tuesday, February 7th at 4pm in the Canada Pavilion

Dr. Jan Francke Director jfrancke@groundradar.com

CORPORATE SUMMARY Groundradar Inc. specialises in the design and use of long-range ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology for the mineral exploration. With 25+ years of GPR experience in over 80 countries, working with a variety of clients from juniors to majors, we have over 100 of our UltraGPR instruments in use worldwide. UltraGPR is the deepest radar technology available, with realistic penetration depths ranging from 30 – 180 m, depending on the suitability of the environment. Rather than rely on antiquated “megawatt” transmitters which do not work, are highly dangerous and produce data which can be mis-interpreted, Groundradar uses proven real-time sampling technology to improve resolution and penetration over commercially-available systems. The most common applications for UltraGPR technology in Africa are alluvial gold and diamonds, iron ore (BIF and canga), bauxite, mapping the thickness of laterite cover, limestone, coal and aggregate studies. The entire system weighs less than 4 kgs and is completely waterproof and wireless, employing Android or iPhone apps rather than bulky laptops for datalogging. Positioning is accomplished with a built-in RTK DGPS system. Operating under a unique business model, Groundradar provides qualified clients with instruments and training on acquisition at no cost, thereby charging only for data processing. This allows the technology to be deployed for large projects at a fraction of the cost of other geophysical methods. In addition, demonstration surveys are offered worldwide at an on-cost basis.
