Welcome to this our 2nd online auction. Everyone is enthused about the beef
business right now, but the reality is those of us left in the business have always been passionate about the cattle and the people who raise them. Those folks who did not share the passion are long gone from the business. My chiropractor commented last week “finally you are in the right industry”. I am not sure if he was congratulating me or acknowledging my perseverance or stubbornness for not throwing in the towel. We are entering our 8th year of marketing our Angus beef at the Regina Farmer’s Market. I feared the high beef prices would hurt our sales. Just the opposite is happening, new and old customers comment that if that is the price, okay they understand, but they what to know the who, how, and where their beef is raised. The loyalty of our market customers keeps us going back. The same can be said about our bull sale customers. Most of our customers are repeat buyers. For their loyalty we are deeply thankful and the fact they come back as repeat customers is very gratifying as a seedstock producer. Our yearly volume customer, PFRA, is phasing out of the pasture business. We were needing to increase the exposure of our bulls. The online auction and format Cattle in Motion uses seems to be the best fit for us. Sarah and Melissa from Cattle in Motion have been very patient and helpful getting a technically challenged cowhand such as myself up to speed with this relatively new way to market our bulls. The Cattle in Motion site is very user friendly. If you have any problems please give me a call and if we cannot get you going, I will get you in contact with someone who can. New for this year’s sale is the addition of a select group of 2 year old bulls. Two of the bulls were used last season and the other three are late March and April bulls that we held back for this sale. They were turned out on grass for the summer and fed a rolled oat/barley ration with free choice hay this past fall and winter. The yearling bulls were weaned November 7th. This is 3 weeks later than usual due to the wet, late fall. Rolled oats and free choice grass hay was how we started the bulls on feed. Since early December the bulls have been pail fed twice daily Masterfeeds pro-pell and have access to a 10% hay and 90% barley silage forage blend. The bulls will be scrotal measured and semen tested March 23rd. A current weight will also be taken that day. All bulls sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the Canadian Angus Association. Settlement of the bulls will be handled by Hi Low Angus. Bulls will be kept free of charge until May 1st. After May 1st there will be a $3/head/day fee for keeping the bulls. We recommend insuring your purchase. We will do our very best to look after your purchase, but shit can happen here too! Our locally Stockman’s Insurance agent is Dave Jones 306 638 3063 office 306 731 7388 cell. Delivery within 300 km is free. We will be happy to arrange any other deliveries at cost. Dan’s opinion on the advantages of online auction
1. Sale order is not an issue. Cattle in Motion format allows all Lots to remain active until there is a 5 minute lapse in bidding after the close of 8 pm on April 1st. Last year bidding continued 40 minutes. This format allows our customers to bid on their #1 selection within their individual budget knowing their #2 selection is still open for bidding as well. 2. Every bid is real. After the sale is over Cattle in Motion sends me a bid sheet on every bull. Our customers can bid in confidence that there are “no rafter bids” and I can thank not only the buyers of the bull but those who helped out by bidding. 3. Bidding is low stress. At a live auction whether it is bulls or bunnies, the faster the sales staff can get you bidding the higher the product will sell for. After the close of 8 pm you have up to 5 minutes to make your next bidding decision. 4. An online sale is convenient for you to participate in. Whether you are at home waiting on a heifer to calve or at your off farm job, you can bid as long as you have access to the internet. If you do not have access to the site give us a call - either Cattle in Motion or someone at Hi Low can carry your bids. My recommendation is to get yourself registered to be a bidder with Cattle in Motion for the Hi Low event early on day 1 or 2. The Cattle in Motion site has easy to follow steps to do this. Once you are registered, place your opening bid on the bull(s) of your choice and then check in periodically to see how the bidding is progressing. I do recommend you make yourself available to follow the sale live 30 minutes prior to closing as things tend to change often. Schedule:

Hi Low Tiger 1X is our senior herdsire. We will continue using him for the next number of seasons. He is an aggressive breeder that adds extra length and an excellent hair coat to his calves. We have a number of very productive daughters in our herd. His disposition is as good as it gets. Tiger 1X stops what he is doing and saunters over for a scratch when Cliff whistles at him. Kath and Cliff selected his mother MVF Tibbie 108U from Scott Anderson’s last production sale. Kathie researched and selected this SAV Brand name son, Whitestone Armando. He has an outcross pedigree for our program. We were impressed with the calves from birth last spring and have more of them on the ground now. These Armando sons are stout and powerful and will add the depth everyone wants.
We selected Basin Excitement for our Ai program for his high accuracy EPDs (top 5% BW; top 1% WW and YW). We have a number of Basin Excitement calves again this spring.
