Welcome Welcome to our 11th bull sale on the farm. Mar Mac Farms is a fourth generation family farm and our whole family is involved in the feeding, breeding, and marketing of our cattle. We take pride in producing top genetics. We also understand the importance of customer service and honest relations with our valued customers and friends in the livestock industry. Congratulations to all who are reading this welcome.You have weathered some tough years and are finally being rewarded for sticking with the cattle business. Last fall we saw record prices for calves and the next 5 years look good as well It is indeed a good time to be in the cattle industry. Now is the time to sell your old herd bull for top dollar and invest in some new genetics that will put you at the top of the price spread when you sell your calves. We are very proud of the bulls on offer today. The bulls have been stringently selected and we are offering only our best. The Red Angus have been selected for calving ease or power whatever suits your program. The Black Angus bulls may be our most consistent group yet; they are powerful individuals with outcross genetics. Our Simmental bulls are led by our Tombstone sire group, what a job he has done for us, these bulls are the kind you would love to have a pen of steers out of. Cow families are very important in our program as you look through the sale book you will see they are continually excelling in production. The bulls this year have been fed a silage ration to enhance longevity and soundness. They are athletic, loose hided and have lots of hair.You may find fatter bulls at other sales but these boys are fed to last. These bulls’ mothers are not pampered. Like you we have more work to do with less help, therefore our cows have to calve and nurse on their own and then breed back or they do not stay here. We would feel confident to use any of these bulls in our own herd, and as such we are retaining the right to collect 200 straws of semen for use in our own herd at your convenience and our expense. We are pleased to work with our sale consigners Downhill Simmentals (Everett Olsen), and Perkin Land and Cattle Co. (Darryl and Tanya Perkin and family). Downhill Simmental bulls have been fed with our bulls since weaning. Putting on a sale at home like this does not happen without the help of some good people. We are fortunate to live in a community where our neighbours are our friends and I would certainly like to thank them for all their support over the years. Special thanks to our good friends, Jean Laing and Sandy Margetts, who are always there when we need a hand with anything on sale day. All bulls have completed a breeding soundness evaluation by Virden Animal Clinic. If your bull fails to be a satisfactory breeder, we will replace him with a bull of equal value or give you your money back. We guarantee you will have a sound bull to service your cows. We will not provide a replacement if your bull has been miss managed. At no time shall the liability exceed the purchase price of your bull. Bulls under one year of age on semen test day will be tested after their birthday, before you need them.
Calving Ease Score...
We evaluate each bull for calving ease determined by bone size, birth weight, birth weight EPD and profile. Scoring is as follows: ✴✴✴ Recommended for use on moderate framed first calf heifers. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble. ✴✴ Recommended for use on large framed first calf heifers & cows. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble. ✴ Recommended for use on cows. Should produce minimal or no calving trouble.
Delivery We offer to board your bull free until April 15, after that at cost until you need him. As well, we will deliver your bull free to central points in Western Canada or the US Border and cost will be shared to Eastern Canada. We will make every effort to get the bull to your farm. Delivery will be as close to the date you request your bull, but will be at our convenience. If you want to pick up your bull at the farm, you can save $50 off the purchase price. If you can not take your bull when we are in your area, we would appreciate if you made arrangements to pick up your bull. Piece of Mind Your new bull is a valuable asset and we recommend insuring your bull for infertility coverage and all risk mortality. If you are taking advantage of our wintering program, your new bull must be insured so we both have peace of mind. Insurance will be available from Keystone Livestock Services (a division of Livestock Insurance Managers). Accidents... Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers, neither the sales staff, auctioneer or consignors assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of an accident or loss of property. Purchased 2 red Simmental bulls at Mar Mac in 2013, hoping to color our calf crop solid red, and add some extra pounds to our calves. We breed our Simmental cows Angus, and our more Angus type cows Simmental trying to maintain that sweet 50/50 cross that works so well. We were very proud when our calves sold the first week of November in Killarney. Our 50 steers, and that was them ALL, none kept back, born after mid April, averaged 576 lbs. on nov 3 and brought an average of $2.83. That is with no creep. Just good genetics, good milk, and good grass. They came in large even groups, and pushed the scale down extremely well. As well, the 2 Mar Mac bulls are homozgous polled which is great when tagging/ringing calves out in the field in April, no horn bumps to check for!

Kid Rock is a solid, massive bull on a moderate frame. He has as much spring of rib as any in the pen and a good, strong top and a nice, tidy head. He has a real cool mother that came out of the Agribition sale, she has lots of milk and is extremely fertile. She has consistently been a low birth weight cow with other sons at 86 lbs and 83 lbs. Here are three full sibs. We decided to flush this good Midas cow as her full brother has bred cows for Albert Tranq for several years and has been an awesome bull, not to mention a specimen to look at. One of our favorite calves all summer, he has had the herdsire look from a very young age. He’s dark red with a touch of white on his face for that extra eye appeal. His dam is one of our favorite cows - her first son sold to MJD Farms of Carman in 2013 and her first heifer is one of our best bred heifers. His dam is also the full sib to the dam of Lot 83 below. This bull has great EPDs and the phenotype to go with it - he’s worth a second look.

Our other black baldy bull, this one is a 680S out of a really sweet young Dr. Phil cow. These black blaze faced calves have been really popular, this bull should make some fancy ones.

This long sided 680S bull has wicked hair and that thick butt and wide top. His dam has produced some real eye catching progeny for us, with her first son selling to Dave and Rhonda Koslowski in 2013. This hairy, big tank of a Phil son is out of a Red Rock cow that has produced very well. His maternal sister sold in November for $7000 at the Pembina sale to Brett Vincent, and we kept her other daughter at home. With a bit of Fleck in his background, he should add extra maternal and pounds at weaning. His EPDs are a home run – top 2% for calving ease, top 5% for weaning weight, top 15% for yearling weight, top 25% for milk, top 3% for Ribeye and top 2% for marbling.

In Loving memory Connor Beech
On Dec. 1, 2014, our family lost a loving father, grandfather and friend when Connor passed away very suddenly. We appreciate the many thoughts and prayers we received through this difficult time. He will never be forgotten. Many of you will remember Connor in different ways. He loved to laugh and always enjoyed telling stories with Simmental friends he had made throughout his many years in the business. His years of guidance and wisdom have been invaluable in shaping our herd. From his attention to detail in the way he would do the smallest things, to that tid bit of advice he would plant in your head that you might later use. Most of all, we will miss those phone calls during a Jets game to talk about a play or that call to see how calving went at the end of the day and we always talked after one of us had been to a sale to discuss that very important sale report. Our family will never be the same without him, but through our stories and memories, we hope to keep him alive in our hearts.

Brett was named as one of the finalist in the Cattleman’s Young Leaders Program. Brett’s mentor for the program is Steve Kenyon, of Greener Pastures. This is an amazing opportunity for youth in Agriculture to mentor and meet a number of the Canada’s Livestock Producers. Melissa helped Brett create a 3 minute video of a “day in the life of a farm”. The video went on to win him the opportunity to attend the Five Breeds Alliance convention in Corpus Christie, Texas. Blair was elected to serve on the Canadian Simmental Board at the Annual Meetings in Clear Lake. Lois was nominated for the YWCA Women’s of Distinction Award in Brandon last March. She was acknowledged for her efforts in supporting and promoting youth inAgriculture.
