C The quality that is presented at this final show makes it a grand finale to the entire year. The

anadian Western Agribition is an event that is talked about all year long and for good reason.

Charolais sale also has the reputation of some great cattle being offered year after year. After all they do come straight out of the show strings and are of excellent quality. The sale is the day before the show and some winners have been purchased that may not have been affordable for some after the show.

The offering this year is very exciting with a variety of female and bull lots that will compliment the most discriminating breeder’s eyes. The best in genetics from some of the top breeders in Canada and around the world makes this a great place to add to the top of the program or to start your own high end breeding operation. The time for Charolais is back and exciting times are ahead for the breed and the entire cattle industry. Bring the whole family as there is plenty to see and do during your time spent at the show. We also welcome hundreds of international guests from over 50 countries every year. To our friends and customers from the United States, Agribition does not fall on Thanksgiving this year so make plans to attend. 306-584-7937 If we can be of any assistance or provide more information before the Helge By 306-536-4261 sale to help facilitate your purchasing, please don’t hesitate to Candace By 306-536-3374 contact us, any of the sale staff or the consignors. 124 Shannon Rd, Regina, SK S4S 5B1 Always in the best interest of Charolais, charolaisbanner@gmail.com Helge & Candace By www.bylivestock.com

PICK OF THE MARTENS CATTLE CO. COWHERD

I was really excited when Sylvan said he would offer the pick of his cowherd in this year’s Agribition sale and if you buy this and see the cowherd, you will understand why. The Marten Cattle Co. cowherd is one of the hidden gems in the industry that not many people have experienced. Over the past 32 years Sylvan has been building a very solid herd using an extensive A.I. program and the best herdsires he could find. He is very methodical in his approach to breeding cattle and it shows. Longevity is also evident by his genetics being the oldest females in both the Perrot-Martin and Merit dispersal sales. His heifers have been features in the Sterling Collection sale for years and that is the only place that he has sold, tending to keep improving the quality of the herd at home and producing some exceptional herdsires. He has been a part of the Northern Alliance multi-breed bull sale since it started 15 years ago. The MXS prefix has impacted many programs such as: the Serhienko/Voegeli, Merit herds with MXS Vermilion who is the sire of the ever popular Merit Roundup bull; the Whitecap herd with MXS Caviar who is the sire of Whitecap Laredo the feature bull in last fall’s Perrot-Martin dispersal. Herdbulls have found their way into many purebred operations across North America and have done a great job. In recent years, Sparrows Landmark, Merit Roundup, CJC Big Sky, DR Revelation, SVY Ad Invincible and MXS Craftsman have been used in the program, so daughters of these bulls are also available.

SELLING THE CANADIAN SEMEN RIGHTS IN SILVERSTREAM EVOLUTION E168

POLLED, OUTRCROSS FROM NEW ZEALAND

SELLING 500 DOSES OF SEMEN WITH MORE AVAILABLE

Silverstream Charolais, from Christchurch, are the largest and most successful Charolais herd in New Zealand. They have been breeding Charolais for 45 years and have produced some excellent cattle. We have toured their operation and spent time visiting with Bruce and Maureen Fisher last year at World Congress in Great Britian. These are great people who have been successful breeders because of it. When Brent and Anna Fisher were over in Canada this summer, they visited us and I found out they had semen available on this proven outcross herdsire. Brent says he has a perfect hoof on him and is very structurally sound, proven by his show record. He calves well with the calves having lots of hair, meat and performance. Last year they sold the Australian semen rights to two of the largest and most successful Charolais operations in Australia, namely Palgrove & Moongool. They both had over 70 calves born in the first season. This is endorsement enough for me when these two Australian operations see and buy the bull to use in their great operations. Contact Helge for patnership opportunities. Terms of the sale will be announced sale day.

PICK OF THE ELDER CHAROLAIS HEIFER CALVES

Here is a great opportunity to put a foundation female in your herd. Over the years, we have always sold our top end heifer calves at the Agribition sale and these calves have gone on to win various Senior, Junior and even Reserve Grand Championships the following day at the show. This year is no exception, as we are allowing you to choose right out of our pen. Selection must take place by our Bull Sale on March 27th.

The heifer pen is as deep as it has ever been with calves sired by: • GRANTS PLAYBOY, who is making his footprint in our herd, exceeding all of the expectations we have for a herdbull • ELDERS WAHKAMO, a home grown bull that adds hair, performance and great disposition to his calves, and • SPARROWS NIXON, whose calves are soft made, very clean fronted with lots of hair and tons of performance. We can assure you there is something here that will fit your program. For example, there is a maternal sister to the $23,000 Zeus bull that sold this spring and a full sister to the high selling heifer calf in last year’s Agribition sale.

Here are some of the past heifer calves we have sold

ELDER’S PERFECTION 886U - National & Agribition Junior Heifer Calf Champion 2008

ELDER’S TESSA 902W - Agribition Reserve Grand Champion Female 2009

LOT 568 OFFERING PICK OF OUR FALL 2013/SPRING 2014 FULL FRENCH CALVES To ease your mind as to the genetics and quality you will be choosing from, there are some fall calves on the ground that will be hard to ignore. You are not limited to these, but I will highlight some that may be unique; from top cows and French bulls.

MLCC 31R

MLCC 68S – Maternal sister to MLC 168L

M&L TOULON 311A (MLCC 311A) MLCC 31R (Nelson dauhter) x Toulon 311A is a bull calf born August 22 that already has that herdbull look. He had a moderate 95 lb. birth weight and 284 day gestation. Toulon is a maternal traits leader in France and provides excellent conformation and carcass traits as well. 311A’s dam is a thick, heavy milking, Nelson cow. M&L UNTEL 49A (MLCC 49A) PCFL 49M (PCFL Odios 138J) x Untel This September 9th bull calf had a 96 lb. BW and 283 day gestation. Like 311A, he has the look and that excellent muscle to bone ratio that his sire is known for. His dam may be the most correct female I have and passes it on. She has a real good son working in the Patton herd.

MLCC 168L

M&L VOIMO 92A (MLCC 92A) • MLCC 92X (Toulon) x Voimo • Born August 25 BW 94 lb. • This is a super heifer calf combining Toulon and Voimo. Both are top weaning and carcass bulls, that also have excellent ratings for feet and legs, fertility and daughters’ calving ability. The following five cows are all bred to Rouky for January 14 calves. I invite you to research the pedigrees and I would be happy to discuss them with you. They are all what the French would refer to as mixed type females; that is females combining muscle, carcass and maternal traits. I was impressed with the Rouky offspring that I saw in the Maple Leaf Charolais catalogue and while visiting Rob Winters here in Ontario, so I quickly ordered semen from Bernard Dore. Like the other service sires, he was a maternal traits champion and provides calving ease with exceptional growth, body, length and depth. • PCFL 11M • MLCC 11W • MLCC 45W • MLCC 168L • MLCC 268W

PCFL 31M and PCFL 143N bred Trezegoal for January 14 calves Here are two foundation cows that work year after year. 31M’s offspring were well received at my sale this fall and I have literally bred her to ten different bulls; every calf a keeper. Like Rouky, Trezegoal sires weighty females with good frames. Again one of the main reasons I use Trezegoal is for his strong ratings on calving ease, feet and legs, fertility and daughters’ calving ability. Retaining the right to draw semen for in herd use on the bull calves. Selection must be made by June 30, 2014. Lizzie is becoming known as one of the premier donor females in the Charolais breed. She blasted onto the scene at Agribition in 2009 where she was admired by many and was the high selling female in the sale. This powerful 1/2 French female will make anyone’s herdbull look great and is a total outcross to most in the breed. She has been an excellent producer of eggs, producing 27 and 17 embryos in her last flushes. Blush 26A is an extremely eye catching, long spined, daughter of Sparrow’s Richmond 905W. These Richmond daughters have super udder development and should make excellent mamma cows. Steppler Miss 14A, the only Steppler heifer calf to sell this fall, comes from the MLK Why Not cow that we bought at the 2000 Agribition sale. The Why Not cow family has produced several high sellers and strong front pasture females. When you look at 14A, you have to admire her depth of rib and quarter, her correct structure, and her Roundup hair coat. 14A placed second in her split with her dam at the MB Charolais Pen Show held in Miami, Manitoba, this year. We will winter 14A, breed her, and deliver her to the CCYA show held this up-coming year in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. We are extremely proud to offer Wild Rose for sale at the prestigious Agribition sale. We wanted to consign one of our best heifers and Wild Rose was a perfect candidate! She is one of the first daughters being offered from our new and exciting herdsire KCM Ultimate. Ultimate is stamping all of his calves with tonnes of depth of body, big hips and strong toplines wrapped up in an eye appealing package. Look for Ultimate in our stall this fall, he will continue to be used heavily in our program. We absolutely love the traits Wild Rose displays, she is clean fronted and very straight in her lines. She displays great spring of rib and depth of body. This heifer has the potential to go in any direction from being competitive in the show ring to being a top producing cow. Her mother is a solid producing cow that is very feminine with a flawless udder. Bred April 19 to XAL Firestruck 3Z. You won’t need the NCIS team to find Zeva. This moderate framed, powerful heifer has all kinds of volume and depth. The broodiness and udder that she is showing are also indicators she will be a great cow. Her pedigree tells us this and her look confirms it. This will also be the first service to the Firestruck bull to sell. Firestruck is a great Firewater son owned by Medonte and Circle Cee Charolais, who sold the Scandinavian rights in him.
