We would like to welcome you to our annual production sale and treat you to coffee and sweets in the morning, lunch at noon and an excellent offering of Red Angus cattle. We would offer any assistance you desire in understanding the information presented in this catalog and evaluating the bulls and females. OUR GOAL: Produce functional cattle for our short grass, semi-arid environment, and provide honest value and service to our customers. OUR PROGRAM: Our program is founded on a balance-trait breeding model. The seedstock are managed in a range environment with moderate-framed cows bred for cowherd building traits with optimal growth and superior carcass traits while maintaining a no excuses culling criteria. If a cow can’t raise a calf every year in our environment, they are culled from the herd. We do not chase extreme growth as the growth traits require extra inputs. This balanced-trait breeding model adds value through carcass quality, lower cow maintenance costs, and increased longevity of the females with the added benefit of the accompanying “convenience traits.” The cattle presented here are a result of a multi-generational commitment to quality. The cows are bred to work within our limited resources, producing calves that excel at weaning, perform in the feedyard, and add value on the rail. PROGENY EVALUATION: The Red Angus breed was founded on progeny testing and we believe in using all the tools available to increase selection accuracy. Calves from our cow herd stay on our ranch and are evaluated to end product, be it seedstock or feeder cattle. Keeping contemporary groups of significant size is one of the most important aspects of performance testing. We manage our cows to keep large contemporary groups. We use this large group data to select our replacements and bull candidates. After weaning, the groups are split into seedstock and feeder groups. The seedstock groups are evaluated with yearling weights, growth measurements and ultrasound. The feeders all have yearling weights taken, and the real carcass data is identified back to both the sire and the dam. This improves the genetic predictability of the cow herd.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: The bulls were developed on the ranch. After weaning the bulls are grazed out on pasture for a month and then fed a high quality roughage ration with a vitamin-mineral supplement to gain 3.25 lb/day on average. The bulls are kept in a large dry pen, which gives plenty of exercise. We do not target 1300 or 1400 lb yearling weights. The development program is designed for the bulls to make their own way on the range and hold up to the rigors of their first breeding season. NO BULLS HAVE BEEN PRE-SOLD OR HELD BACK. HEALTH: The Cow Herd is vaccinated at Pre-Breeding time with Bovi-Shield Gold 5 FP, Spirovac L5, and Vibrin. At Preg Check time they are given a 7 way, Scour Bos 9 and wormed. The heifers have had their branding, weaning and booster shots of 5 way BRD, pasteurella, 7 way Somnus, and parasite control. Recently they had their Pre-Breeding exam, Bangs vaccination, Bovi-Shield Gold 5 FP, Spirovac L5, and Vibrin. They are ready to breed! Bulls get the same calf vaccinations as the heifers, plus a Spirovac L5 vaccination in November. Dr. Wade Shoemaker will Fertility Test all bulls with the results provided with each bull sold. THEY ARE GUARANTEED BREEDERS & READY TO WORK! CATALOG INFORMATION: All EPDs, including carcass, have been updated to reflect the latest P+ numbers supplied by the Red Angus Association. P+ EPDs are pedigree EPDs adjusted by the individual’s performance ratios. Percentile rankings, shown below the EPDs, rank the individuals traits within the Red Angus breed. The measured data taken on the bulls with their in-herd performance ratios are listed in a table just above the EPDs. Sale day announcements of corrections and changes will take precedence over the catalog information. SELECTION: We do supply all the raw measurement data and in-herd performance ratios; but when making your selections, more reliance should be put on the EPDs. Our listed P+ EPDs have already factored in each animal’s performance ratios, including the carcass ultrasound data. To aid in your interpretation and application of the RAAA EPDs, the Red Angus Association has published “Ranchers Guide to EPDs.” You can get a brochure by calling the Association (940-387-3502). This is an excellent source of information and is worth requesting a copy. Of course we will help you interpret any of the information in this catalog.

SALE TERMS: • Animals are unconditionally guaranteed to be sound and to be breeders for the first breeding season. Bulls are guaranteed to have libido and heifers are guaranteed to cycle. We do not guarantee against injury or illness. • Each animal will be at the buyer’s risk as soon as sold, but will be cared for by the seller after the sale. Animals need to be picked up by April 15th. • The bulls and heifers will have passed a Breeding Soundness exam. • Health papers will be provided by Dr. Shoemaker. • Free delivery of bulls for the first 250 miles. After 250 miles delivery will be charged at cost. Deliveries will be scheduled as soon after the sale as possible. We do not offer free delivery on heifers but will work with the buyer to arrange delivery if needed. • A $50 credit will be given to purchasers who pick up their bulls by April 15th. • A $50 credit will be given to purchasers of multiple bulls. • We will be retaining an interest in bulls we designate. They will be noted in this catalog. Any semen collection is at buyer’s convenience. Buyer has full possession & full salvage value. • Registration papers will be transferred to the buyer which provides eligibility for the RAAA FCCP. SALE PROCEDURES: • Animals are always available for inspection at the ranch. • Bulls & heifers will be penned in small groups on sale day. • The opening bid is listed with each lot in this catalog. They come from Lazy H Ranch which maintains a planned crossbreeding system, with a focus on cowherd-building traits without jeopardizing carcass merit.
