TEAM EDGE RACE WRAP: V8 SUPERCARS - SYDNEY 500 Castrol-backed team drivers have capped off another intense year of motor racing with the completion of the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship at Sydney Olympic Park. With the series heading down to the wire it was Jamie Whincup who took the crown with Craig Lowndes second followed by Castrol-backed Pepsi Max Crew FPR driver Will Davison third and Mark Winterbottom fourth in the Championship, respectively. Heading into Sydney’s final round, Winterbottom was ahead of teammate Davison but an incident in the closing stages of the

the course of the season and finishing inside the top half of the field in 14th. Sydney also marked a sentimental moment in the career of Russell Ingall - a man who started, and has now finished - his full time V8 Supercars career on Castrol oil. Ingall bowed out of full time V8 Supercars racing in Sydney with a solid top-10 finish and a credible 14th in the championship despite a rocky year, which was highlighted by a podium result at the Armor All Gold Coast 600. In 2014 V8 Supercars will enjoy a 16 event schedule with a return to Sydney Motorsport Park as a new addition to the calendar.

squad capped off a successful debut year for the Nissan Altima V8 Supercar with three Top-10 finishes on Saturday.

This is where the battle of the Castrolbacked drivers would stay after Davison made a late pass during the final part of Sunday’s race to finish sixth for the race and third in the championship by a mere six points ahead of Winterbottom. The Castrol-backed Nissan Motorsport

Home-town driver Michael Caruso finished seventh, while the Jack Daniel’s Racing duo of Rick and Todd Kelly were ninth and 10th respectively. Rick Kelly was the most consistent of the Nissan Altima drivers across the course of the year, taking 12 top-10 results across

DE PASQUALE CLAIMS CASTROLSUPPORTED FORMULA FORD TITLE Anton De Pasquale secured the Castrolsupported Australian Formula Ford Championship title by taking a clean sweep of victories at Phillip Island. The points leader cruised to the chequered flag in the first of Sunday’s races, but he was made to work a lot harder in the second. The results were enough to earn him the title with a round remaining a Homebush. This season is the last for the Formula Fords running as a CAMS championship, with the class set to be reborn as a national series in 2014. De Pasquale led from pole in Sunday’s opening race and was largely untroubled throughout the encounter. The real battle was for the other podium positions as Liam Sager and Macauley Jones continued their weekend scrap. Sager held second on the opening lap before Jones grabbed the position on the following lap. By lap five Jones began to hold the field up and four car battle developed for second. The complexion soon changed when Jones was spun around at Turn 6. This allowed Sam Power and Simon Hodge through to second and third respectively. Jones retired while Sager was bumped down the order. James Golding capitalised on the Jones incident too and it wasn’t long before he stormed up to second. He held

onto the position with Power in third. De Pasquale was faced with a much stronger battle in the second race despite leading from the start. However, he soon came under attack on the second lap when Golding breezed around the outside for the lead at Turn 1. A lap later the action at the front went up another notch, as third placed Power used De Pasquale and Golding’s tow to move around the pair and grab the lead. On lap six De Pasquale found himself all over Power and he slipped down the inside at Turn 4 to move to the head of the field. Once in the lead, he began to stretch a lead which he took the chequered flag, winning the

championship in the process. Power finished second while Golding claimed the final place on the podium in third. The weekend though was all about the champion, who delivered yet another title to Mick Ritter’s crack Sonic Motor Racing Services outfit. “I wanted to make sure I could have a perfect weekend given the way the first two races went,” said De Pasquale. “It would’ve been bad to have won the first two that way and not have the perfect weekend so I tried to win it as hard as I could. The championship was in the back of my mind.. but it was a great race and would have been pretty good for the fans watching!”

CASTROL-BACKED GREG MURPHY WINS V8 SUPERTOURERS TITLE For the second year running a Castrolbacked driver has won New Zealand’s premier motorsport championship with Greg Murphy crowned the 2013 V8 SuperTourer Champion. Following Supercheap Auto Racing driver Scott McLaughlin’s championship success last year, Mike Pero Racing’s Murphy is the 2013 BNT New Zealand V8 SuperTourers Champion, clinching victory after two thrilling races at the Mike Pero Pukekohe 500. Castrol was represented well within the series front runners, and Murphy entered the final race just one point ahead of another Castrol-supported driver, Ant Pedersen.

STRENGTH TO PERFORM

After losing the points lead with fifth in the morning’s 70 lap race, Murphy and co-driver Jack Perkins (another name synonymous with Castrol in Australia) fought back with second in the afternoon final. Murphy sealed the title by 28 points. A number of positional changes throughout the final stint ensured a nail-biting and closely fought championship battle. “These are very high performing race cars, not too far off the V8 Supercars raced in Australia, with many V8 Supercar drivers competing in this series also, the cars are put under a lot of pressure during race weekends,” said Murphy. “The durability and performance we’ve had all season is testament to the quality of Castrol lubricants and fluids we run throughout the car exclusively.” The final round of the 2013 V8 SuperTourer Championship was won by fellow Castrol-backed competitors McLaughlin and Australian codriver James Moffat. The Mike Pero Commodore boasts a highly-tuned 7.0 litre, 575hp Chevrolet V8 that relies on Castrol EDGE 10W-60 to deliver strength under the extreme pressure of tier one motorsport. In fact, every fluid that helps keep the car on track is a Castrol product, readily available to everyday car users. Six of the top ten Championship finishers utilise Castrol fluids exclusively.
