Castle Rock Chamber Offers A New Way to View Online News It’s a Real Page Turner! Some of our readers may have already noticed a subtle, but hopefully significant change in the way the monthly Business Voice news magazine is viewed electronically. In our efforts to make Chamber news-gathering as easy as possible, a viewing option that allows page turning has been introduced. Problems with opening the Business Voice weren’t encountered in our test run last month, but in some cases, you may find you have to “allow pop-ups,” before you can open it. The Business Voice is published the first business day of each month and an “e-card” is sent to remind members when each new publication is available. The Chamber staff works hard to provide members with current and helpful information. And now, with its new page turning feature, we hope you will find it more convenient to read by flipping through the pages as easily as reading your favorite novel. 2011~2012 Webster University to Launch Master’s Degree Cohort Program at Chamber Offices For the first time in Castle Rock’s history our business owners/ managers, employees and residents now have the opportunity to obtain a graduate degree through convenient face-to-face classroom studies available at the Chamber’s office. We have created a partnership with Webster University’s Denver Metropolitan Campus to offer an onsite cohort program for Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and Master’s of Arts (MA) in Management & Leadership degrees.

Beginning January 12, 2012, classes will be held on Thursday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., in the Chamber’s boardroom, 420 Jerry St. Both the MBA in Business Administration and the MA in Management & Leadership take eighteen months to complete, through five nine-week terms per year, culminating in a graduation ceremony June 2014. This is a fabulous opportunity for our business community and residents to take advantage of furthering their education and staying close to home. Extending higher education opportunities has been a goal of the Chamber and the Castle Rock Economic Partnership and is one step closer in furthering our goal of creating a strong local economy.
Interested individuals are invited to attend an open house reception at the Chamber on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, from 6 to 7 p.m. Representatives from Webster University and the Chamber will be on hand to explain the programs in more detail and answer questions. Sky Ridge Medical Center has partnered with Webster University to offer Masters of Healthcare Administration degrees, offering employees the convenience of advancing their education right at the workplace. Eighth Castle Rock WineFest — A HUGE Success There is nothing better than an affirming testimonial when someone attends an event such as the annual Castle Rock WineFest! Thank you to Wendy, who wrote the following, and the many other visitors who took the time to praise the quality of the event and express their enjoyment. “Jackie and I attended the Castle Rock WineFest… at The Grange in The Meadows in Castle Rock, Colorado and it was a blast! The day was just gorgeous, with a slight wind that kept it cooler. The crowds were fun and there was a lot to do!” Successful as ever, this year’s wine festival consisted of more wineries, more retailers, more food booths and selection and a bigger venue to accommodate the growth of the festival. The WineFest grew in terms of vendors by 27%, 51 to 72 booths, and Wine for every taste quality features, for which this premier festival is known, included gifts of commemorative wine glasses and tote bags; valet parking; cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs; a wine check; smoking section with premium cigars for sale; sun tent and umbrella tables for lunch and complimentary water and crackers. Due to these and other amenities, WineFest is only one of five statewide sanctioned by the Colorado Wine Industry Development Board.

In addition to the more than 160 varieties of quality Colorado wine that one can potentially sample, cooking demonstrations by professional chefs provided culinary entertainment, not to mention to delicious sampling, for those in attendance. The musical stylings of the jazz ensemble, MoDaZz, completed the Grand Tasting Experience. And don’t forget the pre-event pairings the week before the WineFest Grand Tasting. Dinner with the Firemen Joanne Taylor and her “gal pals” bid on a Dinner with the Firemen at this year’s Annual Banquet. The dinner was served by firemen at the firehouse on July 28 and a wonderful time was had by all! The firemen, turned chefs for the evening, were proclaimed “very nice.” In addition to dinner, they gave a tour of the firehouse, inspection of the emergency vehicles and a ride in the fire truck! How fun!!! A coin was tossed to determine who rode in the front and Joanne was the lucky winner!

MW GOLDEN CONSTRUCTORS Recently Began Construction on a Design/build Fire System This project is an addition of a new fire suppression system throughout the Asbury Elementary School. Asbury was constructed in 1925 with additions in 1927 and 1947 and the only fire suppression that was added previously was in the basement cafeteria. This project incorporates tying into the existing fire line water supply to the building and adding a fire suppression system throughout the school. The need for gypsum board soffits is required in the hallways and corridors to hide the new piping. Also, painting of the exposed fire suppression piping, soffits and adjacent walls is required by DPS specifications.
Rates vary on new, used, and refinanced vehicles. 36 monthly payments of $289.00 per $10,000.00 borrowed at 2.49% APR on 2009 or newer vehicles. No down payment required. Kaiser Permanente is pleased to announce the opening of its newest medical office building in Castle Rock, Colorado on Monday, August 1. Located at 4318 Trail Boss Drive, the Castle Rock Medical Offices will be open to all Kaiser Permanente members in the Denver/Boulder and southern Colorado service areas. The facility will offer primary care - (family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics), dermatology, laboratory, pharmacy and radiology services - and employ approximately 40-50 health care professionals, including eight physicians. The Castle Rock Medical Offices are part of Kaiser Permanente’s large-scale expansion plans for Colorado. Seeking to improve access to health care services to thousands of Coloradans, last year the health plan announced it would open five new medical office buildings in the next three years. In addition, this fall, Kaiser Permanente will break ground on a new specialty medical office campus on Park Meadows Drive near the intersection of I-25 and Lincoln Avenue. The multi-specialty center will provide members with greater access and convenience to a variety of specialty services including gastroenterology, orthopedics, and out-patient surgery. Town & COUNTY FREE County Fair Admission all day Friday, Aug. 5 It’s Douglas County’s 150th Anniversary and the Board of County Commissioners - Jill Repella, Jack Hilbert, and Steve Boand - unveiled the County’s gift to the public - free County Fair general admission all day on Friday, August 5. Welcoming all in Douglas County to join them for fun, entertainment and the great American tradition of the annual County Fair, the Board also invited the public to join them at the Fair for the official public celebration of the County’s 150th Anniversary, also on August 5, beginning at 12:30 at the Fairgrounds’ Indoor Arena.
Free General Admission includes two concerts; dog, horse and handler competitions; cricket races; FFA barn tours; Mutton Bustin’; the 4-H/FFA Jr. Livestock Sale; as well as viewing of all Open Class Displays. “The Days of Balancing Colorado’s Budget on the Backs of Seniors Are Over” McNulty Announces House Will Not Suspend Senior Homestead Property Tax Exemption Recognizing that the state’s budget pictures is slowly improving, Speaker of the House Frank McNulty announced to the Colorado Commission on Aging that House Republicans will not support a suspension of the Senior Homestead Property Tax Exemption to balance the budget in 2012. “The days of balancing Colorado’s budget on the backs of seniors are over,” said McNulty, RHighlands Ranch. “Tough budget times led to the suspension of the senior homestead exemption. That meant less money for seniors to spend on medicine and food during this economic crisis. This is money we can now get back to them.” In 2000, Colorado voters added the senior homestead tax exemption to the state constitution. The amendment allows homeowners 65 and over who live in the same primary residence for 10 years to exempt 50 percent of a home’s market value of up to $200,000 from the property tax. “House Republicans believe that the Greatest Generation has paid their due. It is time for us to respect our seniors and the will of Colorado voters as our state budget situation slowly improves,” said State Rep. Jon Becker, R-Fort Morgan, who is also a member of the Joint Budget committee. “By not suspending the homestead exemption, seniors who depend on a fixed income will have a little more money in their pockets. That means a lot during this recession.” Today’s announcement comes only a day after McNulty spoke with the American Cancer Society that House Republicans will not vote to divert Amendment 35 dollars from cancer testing and research.
