The Chile Award was designed to recognize those troops who achieve high standards in Girl Scouting through troop activities during the Girl Scout calendar year (October 1-September 30). Troops can use the Chile Award to help plan their Girl Scout year – and give them goals to strive for as a group! The Chile Award Application is a packet that is split up into 6 sections: Leadership and Troop Administration Troop Traditions Girl Led More Than Meetings Scouting Traditions Older Girl (Cadette, Senior, Ambassador) Each section lists required criteria, only allowing an activity to be used once. Some of the sections give options, allowing the applicant to choose “3 of the 4 options”, etc. The requirements and options found in the Troop Chile Award are perfect for planning a full and well-rounded Troop Year! Recognition Each Chile Award troop will receive a congratulatory letter and official certificate. The Chile Award pin and year droplets can be purchased through La Tienda. The congratulatory letter is the authorization for purchase of pins for all girls. A list of the Chile Award troops will be printed in the Fall Council Newsletter, as well as listed on the website. How to apply Download the 2013 Chile Award Application from our forms section at www.NMGirlScouts.org. Your troop must complete the minimum requirements for their age-level listed in each section of the form. Mark the criteria you have met, and answer the questions relating to them. Complete the application, including the names of all troop members and a droplet years list, and submit to the Daisy, Brownie, Junior Program Manager at: 450 St. Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87508 or fax to 505-983-6671 Attn: Chile Award Application. A troop is a special and dynamic pathway, giving girls the opportunity to create lifetime bonds. Growing up together, however, is never an easy task. Because this pathway is centered on group dynamics, you will need to know how to handle the most basic “group issues”. Following is a partial list of some of the self-centered and disruptive behaviors that happen in most groups (girl and adult!), and some suggestions on how to deal with them in the most positive manner.
