This is summer camp with Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails! There’s something for everyone at summer camp. From horseback riding and navigating the ropes courses, to paddling a canoe and caring for the environment - your summer outdoor adventure can be as unique as you are.

As I enter my 3rd year directing camp it is always my goal to make each summer better than the last. And with that comes change. My goal is for all campers and staff is to have a positive experience. As a little girl I was dropped off at camp for the first time I was just 8 years old. Little did I know I would leave a changed person and my future would be set. Camp can be a place where you can create memories, make new discoveries, develop lifelong friendships and learn new skills. Now imagine yourself sitting next to a crackling campfire surrounded by friends, singing songs and roasting a marshmallow after a day of doing all sorts of fun activities, like canoeing, horseback riding and archery. Pretty amazing, right? There is just something about camp that sticks with you for a lifetime. If you have been to camp before, we welcome you back for another summer of great adventures. If this is your first time, get ready to not only imagine camp, but experience it first hand, will you set your future? This summer we are bringing back to camp Girl Scout traditions, badges, outdoor skills and troop camping. It’s going to be a great summer! Make sure you read all the information so you don’t miss anything! Remember Girl Scout camp is open to ALL girls, not just current Girl Scouts. We have something for everyone! Happy Camping! All Girls Welcome at Camp! Within these pages you will find many adventures that will get your feet moving and inspire you to reach new heights. Girl Scout camp is unique from other camps in that it is entirely girl led. Under the guidance of our counselors, girls of all ages are involved in the planning, organizing and evaluating their camp activities. Campers are empowered as they learn and practice creative thinking, leadership and decision making. As a parent you will be amazed by the skills and confidence she will come home with. Summer adventure is waiting for you at our two camps. Whether its hiking, riding horses or water sports there is always something do for everyone.

Come to one of our camp info nights or schedule a visit with us where a staff member will come to your troop meeting to share the magic of summer camp with you and your parents. Girl Scout Camp Offers Leadership Experience In addition to being full of fun activities, Girl Scout camp is an extension of our leadership programming for girls. Through a variety of opportunities, girls will gain skills to become leaders who will make the world a better place.
Camp Standards Rancho del Chaparral and Camp Elliott Barker are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and the delivery of quality programs. In addition to meeting the established standards for health, safety, program and personnel criteria set by federal, state and local government, our camps meet the standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA.

Earn Money for Camp How Do Cookies Get You to Camp? Everyone loves Girl Scout Cookies, including the Girl Scouts who sell them! Program Vouchers are an earned reward through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, and are a great way to help cover the cost of your perfect summer outdoor adventure! There is still time to sign up to participate in the 2016 Cookie Program, which runs from February 15 to March 27 - call your local council office for more information.
How are Program Vouchers earned and used? Every girl who sells at least 315 boxes of cookies can choose to earn Program Vouchers, which can be used to pay for lots of council-sponsored events, including Summer Camp session fees (not deposits). Girls are given the choice between a Program Voucher and a physical reward at pre-selected levels. All rewards are cumulative. This means you can earn UP TO $220 to use for camp! See the 2016 Girl Rewards below.

Costs and Financial Assistance Ready to register for your perfect summer outdoor adventure? Here’s more information on... General Information
Our summer camps are open to all girls ENTERING grades 1 - 12, in the Fall of 2016. Girls must register as a Girl Scout for $15 to attend camp. If they are not a Girl Scout, they can simply sign up and pay the $15 membership fee prior to registering for camp. Via registration, Girl Scouts of the USA provides basic accident insurance for all registered Girl Scouts as a supplement to the family’s existing insurance coverage.
Camp Fees and Deposits
Resident Campers have two options: • Pay in full at time of registration. • Pay the minimum $100 deposit (or more) at the time of registration. The remaining balance must be paid in one final payment by the registration deadline for your camp session. Deadline dates are two weeks prior to camp start dates. Deposits may not be made with GS$ or Program Vouchers. Need Financial Assistance? See Camperships below. Troop & Family Campers: • Payment is due in full at the time of registration. • Troop campers must be registered Girl Scouts. Adult troop campers must also have an approved background check on file by the camp registration deadline date for your camp. • Family campers must have a minimum of one (1) registered Girl Scout for the 2015-2016 membership year on their registration to attend family camp. Day Campers: • Payment is due in full at the time of registrations. Day Campers must be registered Girl Scouts.
Camperships - IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
In an effort to make camp an experience available to all girls, regardless of socioeconomic background, need-based camperships are available for one session to girls demonstrating need. The Campership Application must be completed and attached to the camp registration and submitted with the $50 deposit by May 2, 2016. Notification will be sent via email within 7-10 business days of receipt.
Girls must be registered members to receive financial assistance. Campership funds are limited; assistance is based on financial need. Camperships are not available to adults attending programs. All requests and allocations are confidential. Be sure to complete the campership request completely. Incomplete forms will result in an automatic denial. Camperships are determined using 2015 federal register poverty guidelines for the 48 contigous states. More information on this process can be found on our website nmgirlscouts.org
Cancellation/Refunds
Refunds are made, minus a $50 administrative fee, if cancellation is received in writing two weeks prior to the session begin date. After this date, balances, minus a $50 administrative fee, will only be refunded if the camper moves out of state due to military relocation, has been certified to be ill by a physician, or there is a family emergency such as severe sickness or death of an immediate family member. Documentation of proof must accompany cancellation requests. Refunds are not issued if a camper leaves before the end of the session due to disciplinary action or homesickness. If a camper leaves early due to physical illness or injury, the camp fees will be prorated, minus the administrative fee, for refund.

Just for Parents and Guardians
Here is some helpful informaiton to prepare you, parents and guardians, for your Girl Scout’s amazing summer outdoor adventure at camp! Camp Staff
Our camp staff members are mature, responsible individuals selected for their special abilities, certifications, professionalism, and experience working with youth camping programs. All of our staff are interviewed and screened. Background checks are conducted on all staff members. All staff participates in an intensive pre-camp training and ongoing trainings throughout the summer on topics such as child and adolescent development, camp skills, Girl Scout programs, healthcare, first aid and CPR training, and safety practices and procedures. Staff are mostly college students or recent college graduates and come from all parts of the country and world. We pride ourselves on giving the campers a look into all types of experiences; a well-rounded staff gives them this learning experience.
Health and Safety
Your camper’s health and safety is our first priority. All camp programs are planned and staffed according to the high standards of Girl Scouts of the USA and the American Camping Association. Healthcare mangers direct the health centers at each camp and are supported by on-call services of a local physician and emergency medical center. If a camper is on medication, the healthcare manager will administer and document it. Staff and girls must turn in all medication (in their original container) to the healthcare manager upon arrival at camp. Health histories are required for all camp programs. Some programs may require an additional parent permission waiver, which will be provided in the camper confirmation packet prior to camp arrival. So that we can provide the best possible experience for your camper, please note any special needs, disabilities or dietary restrictions on the campers registration form under “special needs” so we may accommodate for appropriate staffing and camper needs. Parents/Guardians will be contacted by phone if sickness or injury requires a visit to a doctor. Parents/Guardians will also be contacted for any other issue, such as severe homesickness, injury, or illness that prevents your camper from taking part in camp program activities.
Meals, Allergies, Food & Special Requirements
Both camps provide well-balanced meals that are prepared by experienced kitchen staff and served in the dining facility. Menus are planned based on summer food service program guidelines (the same guidelines used in most school cafeterias). Meals are normally served “family style” and girls will participate in setup before meals and cleanup after meals. It is very important that we are aware of any special dietary needs, requirements or allergies BEFORE your child arrives at camp. Please list any severe allergies on your registration form. This will not affect your camper’s placement but will help best serve your camper’s specific needs. If your camper requires specialized foods please contact the Camp Director to discuss the best way to accommodate your camper’s dietary needs.
Visitors, Mail & Phone Calls
For safety reasons, access to Girl Scout camp properties is limited when camp is in session. To eliminate concerns over the timeliness of postal deliveries, parents can leave mail at the check-in for delivery during the session. Camp is a wonderful opportunity for girls to experience independent living. Keep your letters quick and fun! Say hello, ask questions, tell a joke and encourage your camper. Phone calls are not allowed at camp as they can be disruptive to programming and can cause homesickness. Cell phones are NOT permitted at camp.
Camp Living
Housing assignments are made based on program, level, and availability. There are a variety of different housing options depending on which camp your camper is attending. Living units range from 4-8 beds depending on the housing.
Camper Confirmation
Camper confirmation will be sent via email. Your final payment confirmation will serve as your “ticket” to camp. You must present this confirmation upon check-in. In this confirmation, you will also receive a link to the additional forms needed for your check in at camp.

Happening This Summer Badge Work Some camp sessions offer an opportunity to work on specific skill badges. Descriptions state which badge(s) will be earned, you can also look for this symbol. At the end of the week campers will be given an information sheet showing which parts of the badge she completed while at camp. Travel Off Camp This symbol represents those sessions where campers will travel off camp property for a portion of their session. These trips may also require additional participation forms for our certified vendors. Themed Weeks Some camp weeks will have a theme! Look for this symbol to see if the session you are attending has a theme. Campers are welcome to bring props or clothing for this theme. Some camp activities will use these themes for planning. Horse Backriding Some camp sessions will offer girls the option to go on a horse ride as part of the camp “selectas� or their program option. Look for this symbol where that might be an option. *Weather may effect which selectas are offered.
Girls R.U.L.E. (Respect, Understanding, Lead, Empower) Through interactive games and activities girls will practice listening skills, teamwork, sharing ideas and problem solving, learn the power of their words and actions, and how to show respect for each other.

FOR THE GIRL THAT LOVES HORSES Whether you are a first time rider or an experienced equestrian, our horse programs are for you! Our equestrian sessions involve learning about grooming, horse care, and of course, riding! Sessions are labeled based on skill. Not sure which is right for you? Below are descriptions of the levels offered. L1: For girls with little or no horseback riding experience. Lessons may include general barn, horse, and burro safety, how to groom, grooming tools, why we groom, horse breeds, how to lead, walk, jog, mount (assisted), dismount (assisted), turn, stop, rein position,controlling the horse, feed and simple knots. L2: For girls who have previously attended a one-week riding program at camp, or have had at least 8 hours of riding experience outside of camp. Lessons will include general barn, horse and burro safety, how to lead, tie a quick release knot, parts of the tack, how to tack, mount (unassisted), dismount (unassisted), correct position, how to control a horse at walk, turn, circle, reverse, stop, and trail ride. L3: For girls who have previously attended a one week or more of riding camp, or have had at least 8 hours of riding experience outside of camp. Girls should be comfortable leading a horse and riding in an arena. Lessons will include general barn, horse and burro safety, how to tack, how to bridle, able to mount and dismount unassisted, correct position, how to control a horse at walk, turn, circle, reverse, stop, trail riding, and basic bareback riding. L4: For girls who have previously attended one-week or more riding camp, or have had at least 16 hours of riding experience outside of camp. Girls in the advanced riding programs should be able to mount and dismount without assistance, turn, stop, demonstrate walk, jog, and lope a horse with control and demonstrate a secure balanced position. Lessons will include how to tack, how to bridle, more advanced arena skills, trail riding, pack trip, grooming and horse care.

Leadership Programs (Available at Both Camps)
Want to work at camp someday? Our leadership programs will get you started on the right path. Whether your heart is at Rancho or Barker, there is a program for you. As you progress through the leadership path you will learn and experience a variety of camp programs and activities, including planning and implementation. Learn about leadership, teamwork, and child development. Help in the units and program areas. Spend time at both Rancho and Barker. Help create a positive community at camp. Participate in a “pre-camp” just as our staff does to help better prepare you for your new leadership role. These leadership opportunities offer valuable skills and experience for girls, many of which will help prepare you for life after high school. Upon completion participants will be awarded their CIT pins! Note: Leadership participants will return home between sessions unless there is a weekend program. If a weekend program is available, they have the option to stay and help. Wrangler In Training (WIT) Grades: 9 - 12 Cost: $450
Looking to be an equestrian counselor or work with horses? The wrangler program is an opportunity for experienced girls to help with and learn about working in our program! Learn and work alongside the counselors as you help with our younger campers groom, saddle, stable management and daily chores. Assist with ground school, arena lessons and trail riding. You will have a busy schedule but will also have time to improve your own horse skills with specialized lessons. Take an overnight and help plan special events. Do a “leave a legacy“ project for future campers. Participants attend 3-4 weeks between June 5th-August 14th. Program available at both Rancho and Barker.

Put into practice the skills you developed in CIT I while working on the finer points of being a counselor. Increase your skills in archery, outdoor cooking, nature and arts. Travel to the other camp and do some different activities. Spend time with the camp director and learn more about administration of camp. Work on a “leave a legacy” project for future campers. This is the second step to becoming a camp counselor.

Develop and polish your camping skills and learn basic counselor techniques during this 3 week session. Learn about age characteristics of children, behavior modification, homesickness, inclusion and sensitivity. Learn new songs and games and how to teach them to younger kids. Spend time working in the unit and in a program area. Take a trip to our other camp to see different programs and leadership. Do a “leave a legacy” project for future campers. This is the first step to becoming a camp counselor.

Counselor In Training II (CIT II) Grades: 10 - 12 Cost: $450
Counselor Internship & Equestrian Intern (Formerly Advanced CIT or WIT) Grades: 10 - 12
Have you completed CIT I & CIT II or WIT, but are still not old enough to work at camp. Summer Counselor or Equestrian Intern is just for you. Assist 2 - 3 weeks in the summer. You can choose the camp, or try both. Work alongside the counselors for resident camp, help plan some family or troop camp fun. The experience is open to what you want to do and make of it. Work with our Leadership Director to plan the summer you want at camp! Stipend or volunteer hours available. This is the last step to becoming a camp counselor. Participants should attend 1-2 weeks and can be arranged between June 5th-August 14th. Program available at both Rancho and Barker.

A traditional summer camp located in the Jemez Mountains outside of Cuba, New Mexico. Situated in a forest area covered in Ponderosa Pine and mixed conifer, campers are able to experience both beauty and wildlife. Deer, elk and other wildlife are often spotted around camp. Housing units include Platform Tents, Adirondaks, Hogans and Wagons. All units have cots or bunk beds with mattresses. Each unit has a pavilion or shelter for group activities, a campfire circle, and a wash area with sinks and latrines. Family style meals are served at Casa Grande Dining Hall. Rancho also has a creek and the Mystery Tree for nature exploration, an archery range, riding stables, arts & crafts building, amphitheater and numerous trails for overnight hiking and camping.

RANCHO RESIDENT CAMP Resident camp provides girls with that sense of independence and ability to make new friends outside their regular social group. Girls are able to live in units of similar ages and interest, choosing what activities they want to do. Some sessions might be centered around a certain theme, such as horses or art. Camp becomes the camper’s home for up to 6 days and 5 nights. Meals are provided in our dining hall family style with girls able to talk and meet other counselors and campers. Challenge yourself to be your best as you explore the “wild side” of camp. Who will be the master fire builders? The expert outdoor cook? Find the clues using a compass, shoot off a rocket or design a nature program for future campers. Have a bit of survivor mixed with amazing race to Chefs Gone Wild make for great week. Work on the GOOD Grades: 1 - 3 SPORTSMANSHIP BADGE.

Do you like the wild side of food? Get creative and messy with food. Cook outdoors, spend time in the kitchen, take a hike and prepare a snack for your trip. Make a cookbook all while working on the SNACKS BADGE. Make an apron to get all your fellow chefs to sign so you remember your camp memories.
In this beginning level of Western riding, you will learn about horse care and safety and will develop your skills in the arena. Learn about the different breeds and colors of horses. Learn about all the equipment needed for horseback riding. Enjoy a lunch talking to our Equestrian staff and getting firsthand knowledge from the true experts. End the week having a true western carnival to show off your skills and your new 4 legged friend. Have a chance to visit the burros as well. When not at the stables, you will participate in all the other activities Rancho has, including a cookout.

Feeling stressed after a long school year? Head to Rancho to chill and relax! Pamper yourself by turning your unit into a spa. Relax with good music, yummy snacks, natural beauty products and new friends. Write in a journal and unwind with yoga. Create a zen schedule of other camp activities if you choose.

Art-tastic Grades: 4 - 6 Cost: $355 . . . . . . . Art fanatics this, is the camp for you! Spend time making all your favorite camp crafts, from beads to tye-dying. Make a piñata and then have a fiesta on the magic of camp. Step into the past and do some crafts that your parents will know such as shrink dinks, gods eyes, sand candles, melted crayons. Take some hikes and get inspiration from the natural beauty of camp. Have time for some non crafty activities like archery, outdoor cooking and games. Work on the DRAWING BADGE!

Session 3 July 10 - 15 Theme this week: Pirate Adventure L1: Pony Pals Grades 1-3 $410 . . . . . . . This introductory program will help our first time campers get to know the basic “in and outs” of the horse program. Girls will get their first horse lesson, take a tour of the barn, meet the horses and stable staff. Learn how much work it is to care for our 4-legged friends, what special treats they like. Visit the burros and learn how to groom and make them look fabulous. Venture out of the stables and spend time doing arts and crafts. Invite the horse staff to a cookout, they have some pretty great horse stories. You will leave wanting more camp and even more horse time.

Pro-Chef Donut Wars Grades 4-6 $355 . . . . . . . The pro-chef series is back! This summer, it’s time to make the donuts! You will get to practice measuring, mixing and baking as you whip up your own impressive donut. Use teamwork to compete in challenges. Get advice from our chef on cooking success. Head to the challenge kitchen to prepare your best donut for the judges to be crowned the Pro-Chef of 2016! Have time to venture out of the kitchen doing other cool Rancho activities. Get your horse at the beginning of the week and be charge of grooming, saddling and tacking up your horse before riding. Participate in feeding and stable management including cleaning. Go on a day ride where you will cook out your lunch. Plan a western party to end the week in true cowgirl style. Have time for other Rancho activities.

Rancho Troop Camping Want to share summer camp with your Girl Scout Troop? Join our camp staff for a fun filled troop camping experience! We will provide activities, supplies and food for your troop. You will need to provide transportation and safety-wise adult supervision at all times. During your stay, camp staff will provide you with fun hands on activities such as horseback riding, archery, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts and other camp experiences. Meals will be provided in the dining hall. As the leader you will provide supervision of the girls at various activities, escorting them to the different places in camp and providing program for a small amount of down time. This summer we will be offering four (4) Troop Camp Adventures. These sessions are only open to Girl Scout troops and their leaders. Safety wise adults only. Families should attend one our family camp sessions. See descriptions and dates below. Rancho Family Camping Family camp is a great opportunity to share the magical world of camp with the entire family. Leave the programming and meals to us. Do some horseback riding, archery, or arts and crafts. Or just find a nice place to enjoy the beauty of our camps, the choice is yours. Adults are responsible for supervising their children at all times. Arrive on Friday night and plan your schedule of activities. Stay in platform tents, hogans, wagons or adirondacks. The choice is yours at camp. Meet other families and see why our girls love camp so much.

Camp Elliott Barker is a high adventure camp located in the Carson National Forest in the mountain town of Angel Fire, New Mexico. Barker is open to resident camp, day camp and troop/family camp this summer. Resident/day camp is open to girls entering grades 2-12. Troop/Family camping is open to girls entering grades K-12. Specializing in high adventure activities, horseback riding and archery; participants will also have the opportunity to do a high and low ropes course with a zipline, nature and STEAM activities, outdoor cooking, hiking, backpacking and team building activities. Participants will stay in either platform tents with cots or cabins. Campers in some camp sessions will be staying in the primitive site in tents. Each unit has latrines (biffys). Showers are centrally located. Participants eat most meals in the dining hall, but will have the chance to cook out in their units.

Moreno Valley Day Camp at Barker Day camp allows campers to experience the adventure of camp during the day and the comforts of their own home at night. Day campers experience fun and exciting activities along with the chance to try new things, discover their leadership abilities, and make new friends. Day campers attend camp Monday-Thursday 9-5, with an optional overnight ThursdayFriday at noon. Lunch is included and served in the dining hall with the resident campers. Open to girls entering 1st - 12th grades. Prices vary depending on ages and programs. Look at program descriptions on the following pages for more detail. Barker Resident Camp Resident camp provides girls with that sense of independence and ability to make new friends outside their regular social group. Girls are able to live in units of similar ages and interest, choosing what activities they want to do. Some sessions might be centered around a certain theme, such as horses or art. Camp becomes their home for up to 6 days and 5 nights. Meals are provided in our dining hall family style with girls able to talk and meet other counselors and campers. Equestrian Program at Barker
One of the key elements of Camp Elliott’s Barker’s riding program is progression. Our riding programs are designed to develop equestrian skills in beginning through advanced riders. Progression in riding programs depends upon many factors, the most important of which is the individual girls experience with horses. It is important for campers to follow the prerequisites and progress listed. This will allow each girl to maximize both her enjoyment and learning. This chart is designed to help girls and parents understand how to advance in the riding programs at Camp Elliott Barker. Each of these steps is a pre-requisite to the next, unless a girl has skills or experience from another program and has approval from the riding director at camp.

Are you a horse lover and can’t wait to ride? This beginning horse session is for you. Ride and work with the horses daily while assisting with grooming and corral management. Learn the basics from the ground up, safety and control when around and riding horses. Work in the arena with proper mounting/dismounting, turning and stopping. Have time for other camp activities. *This is a beginning level for first time riders who have no horse experience. Riders should have boots with a ½ inch heel.

Explorer Adventure Grades: 4 - 6 Cost: $355 . . . . . . . New adventure awaits you as you explore the world of camp! Try your hand at archery, canoeing and high ropes. Meet new friends while you enjoy the outdoors. Tell your story through drama and arts & crafts. As night falls, a new world opens up when you take a night hike or sleep out under the stars watching the moon. Sing songs around a campfire. A great way to make memories while starting your love of camp.

Ready to take your riding to the next level? Take your previous skills and start with caring for your horse by grooming, feeding, and tacking. Work in the arena to perfect your control and turning skills. Learn to cantor or slow trot. Move around obstacles with more advanced skills. Take to the trail to do a lunch or dinner ride. Participate in other camp activities.
*Must have prior riding experience such as Saddle Up. Riders should know how to mount/dismount and proper riding stance. Riders should have boots with a ½ in heel.
Have fun being a kid again! Head to Red River where you will challenge yourself on their new ropes course and zipline. Do some summer tubing that is sure to get your heart pumping. Back at camp, host a dance party and make art with paint balloons and do some tie dying. Top off the week with an outdoor slumber party where you will make your homemade ice cream. Make sure you bring some funky pajamas to show off.

Cliff Hangers Grades: 6 - 8 $410
You are off on an exciting adventure! Learn the basics of rock climbing and rappelling. Get your feet on the rocks near the Taos Gorge and meet those who have made rock climbing their profession. Have fun challenging yourself on the high and low ropes and feel the thrill of the zipline. When not hanging out on the rocks, have time for a cookout or archery. Do some star gazing or night hiking, sing songs and make smores around a campfire. The adventure is waiting if you are ready!

Have time for other activities back at camp such as archery, ropes course or star gazing.

As a Wrangler, expect trail rides, games and more practice each day as you become a more confident rider in this advanced level session. In the arena, work on different gaits and competitive events such as barrel racing and pole bending and prepare for an end of camp rodeo. Campers in this session will also help barn staff with stable management by feeding in the morning and general stable maintenance. Campers should be confident in tacking their own horse and mounting and dismounting properly.

Backwoods Challenge Grades: 7 - 12 Cost: $355 Day Camp: $190 . . . . . . . Are we lost? No we are in the backwoods challenge area! Think Survivor meets Amazing Race. Separate into teams and participate in daily outdoor challenges centered on wit and survival. Will it be on the archery range or ropes course? Make your camp area your own, designing your own flag. Do some outdoor cooking and nature exploration all while working on the ULTIMATE RECREATION BADGE OR ARCHERY BADGES.
Do you love animals? Come to camp and learn all about the wildlife that call the mountains home. Take a picnic lunch to the horses, feed them a special snack. Go to the fairylands looking for birds, make a butterfly garden or build a bird house. Explore the duck pond to see what creatures may make the water their home. Take a nighttime hike and see what animals come out at night. Work on the “Bump in the Night” badge. Do some outdoor cooking, play games and make new friends.

Free Wheelin Grades: 6 - 8 Cost: $410 Day Camp: $200 . . . . . . . Travel around Barker on the two wheels of a mountain bike. Learn the fundamentals of riding and bicycle maintenance. See the backwoods and feel the thrill of the trail. After you have gotten your feel for your bike around camp, head over the Angel Fire resort where you will learn from the experts and really feel the thrill of cruising the mountain trails. Tell the tails around a campfire when you do some outdoor cooking. Have fun with other camp activities.

Cook at least one meal a day with your unit and learn techniques to become Barker’s Iron Chef of 2016. You will be given an extreme challenge or mystery ingredient that you must use in your judged dish. Start with “camp bucks” to buy extras that will help you will the challenges. Kick your adventure into over drive with this week of thrills. Back by popular demand from last summer, we are adding to the adventure with even more thrills. Start your week off with a trip to Red River for some zipping and climbing on their ropes course, head to the Rio Grande for some kayaking and river rafting. Hope you are not scared of heights as you hit the rocks near the Taos Gorge. With all that adventure you will need to refuel with a cook out. Barker Troop Camping Share your summer adventure with you Girl Scout troop. Join our camp staff for a fun filled troop camping experience! We will provide activities, supplies and food for your troop. You will need to provide transportation and safety-wise adult supervision at all times. During your stay, camp staff will provide you with fun hands on activities such as horseback riding, canoeing, ropes course, archery, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts and other camp experiences. Meals will be provided in the dining hall. As the leader you will provide supervision of the girls at various activities, escorting them to the different places in camp and providing program for a small amount of down time. This summer we will be offering two (2) Troop Camp Adventures* at Camp Elliott Barker. These sessions are only open to Girl Scout troops and their leaders. Safety wise adults only. Families should attend our family camp session. Troop Camp sessions will have a program emphasis. *Troop camp sessions at Barker are recommended for 4th grade and up, girls younger than 4th grade may not be able to participate in all the activities. Barker Family Camping Unsure if you are ready for a full week of camp alone? Maybe you have gone to camp and want to share the magic with your family. Leave the programming and meals to us. Enjoy horseback riding, canoeing, ropes course, archery or arts and crafts. Or just find a nice spot to enjoy the mountain peace, the choice is yours. Accompanying adults are responsible for supervising their children at all times. Arrive Friday night and decide rather you want to stay in the cabins or platform tents. Meet other families and decide why our girls love camp so much. Participants will sign up for activities Friday night during dinner. Kids under 4th grade may not be able to participate in some activities due to safety. Due to time and possible weather constraints you may not get to do all the activities in one weekend. Housing assignments are on a first come first serve basis, if there are health issues or reason that accommodations should be met please contact the camp director ahead of time so arrangements may be made. Due to limited space you may be placed with another family or group. You are welcome to bring your own tent.
