MISSION STATEMENT Casady School develops excellence, confidence and integrity in each of our students by equipping them with the skills and knowledge that serve as the foundation for success. Our Beliefs We believe an exceptional education should cultivate those habits of mind and character that enable individuals to flourish at each stage of life. Casady School’s proven college-preparatory curriculum focuses on the full development of each student, in mind, body and spirit. We believe the mind should be nourished and developed; therefore, our academic program provides our students the challenges and opportunities necessary to develop critical and creative thinking skills, the ability to plan, evaluate and implement actions, and most importantly, the support to nurture their passions.

CASADY SCHOOL

Winter 2013-14

We believe competitive athletics and physical education are central to the development of leadership and teamwork as well as self-confidence and respect for others. Our students are participants rather than simply spectators. Casady provides healthy and competitive opportunities that are critical to developing an appreciation for wellness and fitness in each student. We believe strong spiritual and moral values provide an essential foundation for one’s life; therefore, the School provides instruction in the basic tenets of the Christian faith as expressed in the Episcopal tradition. Central to the School are daily chapel services and instruction in theology and ethics. Casady embraces individuals regardless of belief and values an understanding of all faiths. As such, we help our students succeed by challenging and supporting them in every aspect of their educational experience. The result is that our students are given every opportunity to realize their potential and use it to make a difference in their community.

BECOMING A CASADY STUDENT Casady’s program begins with a Montessori-based Pre-Kindergarten and concludes with a college-preparatory, liberal-arts curriculum in the Upper Division, which offers 18 Advanced Placement courses. Casady’s exceptional and experienced faculty helps each child realize his or her potential academically, athletically and artistically. We believe that the most effective learning environment includes an appreciation for diversity: racial, cultural, socio-economic, gender and geographic. We invite parents along with students to attend Open House events this winter and spring. A special note to prospective students entering grades one through 12: We highly recommend you schedule a shadow day with one of our current students. During this time, you will meet our students and teachers and get a firsthand look at Casady. This is the best way for you to experience the many opportunities Casady offers.

Admission Screening: Primary Division (Pre-K – K): Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, 9:00am and 10:30am and Saturday, March 8, 9:00am and 10:30 am. Athletics have always been a core component in the development of Casady students, from those who compete as athletes to those who enjoy the excitement of being a Cyclone fan. The importance of athletics is reflected in Casady’s mission of educating “mind, body and spirit.” Building this tradition, the Cyclone Booster Club was formed in 2011-12. Our mission is to promote excellence and enthusiasm in the Casady Athletics program. With your help, we hope to realize this mission and enhance School Spirit through a variety of activities and events, including: Encouraging support for and participation in the Athletics program by the Casady community Organizing volunteers to assist our Athletics Department in producing outstanding game day experiences for our players, fans and opponents; Facilitating more robust and timely communication among the Athletics program, parents and fans; and Raising funds through memberships, special events and other activities to support the Athletics program. The Cyclone Booster Club is an organization within Casady School, and all members of the Casady family are encouraged to join and participate.

Concessions Build Community The Casady sports concessions program is a vital component of the Casady campus. The volunteers who staff concessions throughout all three sports seasons help improve the School and student experience by ensuring the following: 1. Supporting the Casady athletes 2. Offering hospitality to students, parents/grandparents and visiting team guests 3. Raising a large amount of money to support important athletic and academic programs Parental Commitment The Casady concession stand is open and successful when there are volunteers to work the area. Parents of a student athlete are strongly encouraged to support the Concessions Build Community program by signing up to work one concession shift per sport season. The volunteer sign-up process ensures that all parents can work shifts that do not conflict with their students’ sports. Additionally, the easy electronic sign up is available for the season so volunteers can sign up and schedule at their convenience. Casady alumni also are encouraged to be a part of the concessions fun. Thank you in advance for volunteering at the concessions stand. Your time and support are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact: casadyconcessions@gmail.com.

As Casady parents we form a powerful team with far reaching effects on our students and the entire school community. We play an essential and positive role at Casady School. By sharing our knowledge and talents, we help create a more enriching environment, enhancing the quality of Casady’s programs. There are many ways for you to get involved at Casady! Parents serve on committees and raise funds through the Cupboard School Store and Jimmy’s Concessions. We host events such as Bingo Night, The Cirque du Cyclones Auction, Fat Tuesday Pancake Breakfast, and the School Carnival. The list goes on and on. You will get a feel for the energy and excitement that makes Casady special when you walk around our campus. Volunteering is a great way to get to know the faculty and staff as well as your child’s classmates and their parents. These connections and friendships will serve you well the entire time your children attend Casady and beyond. As a Casady parent, YOU are a part of this great organization and we encourage you to experience the Casady Community through volunteer activities at school this year. EFFORT + EXECUTION = EFFECTIVENESS IN CYCLONE ATHLETICS Casady’s athletic program grabbed local headlines in August when the School put in place the Axon concussion testing software for all Upper Division athletes as part of continued injury prevention for our students. Injury prevention is always a hot topic of discussion in sports medicine, and Casady is fortunate to have two Certified Athletic Trainers on staff as well as a strength and conditioning coach to work with our kids every day. One of the most important pieces of Casady’s athletic program is the opportunity for coaches to know the students well in their physical development and capabilities during their time at the School. Physical Education is required for all students in first through sixth grades, and in seventh grade, the children begin competitive sports. “Being able to teach physical education from first grade and up allows us to get to know each child very well,” said Trainer and Coach Jared Hofer. “By the time they are involved in competitive sports, we know exactly what each student athlete needs in order to get them to perform to their best ability during competition.” Coach Hofer and Coach Jay Gallegly ’02 are National Athletic Training Association Board Certified Athletic Trainers and are licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. In the State of Oklahoma, all Certified Athletic Trainers must be registered with the Oklahoma Medical Board. At the national level, to become a Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer that person must have a degree from a college or university with an accredited athletic training program and is required to maintain an advanced CPR certification at all times. Evaluating injuries and rehabilitating the athletes back to full health are important to Coach Gallegly. He was a Casady student and athlete, graduating in 2002, as were his sister, Jenifer ’04 and brother Matt ’00.

10

CASADY SCHOOL

Winter 2013-14

“Every injury and child is different, especially with the wide age-range of students that we have on campus, so I am constantly learning new things,” he said. “I love that my job is always mentally stimulating and challenging. “As for injury prevention, the simple fact is that the athletes who are in the best shape physically tend to have fewer injuries. That is where Coach (Marc) Gonzaga comes in,” said Coach Gallegly. “The kids who consistently work with him throughout the year and summer are more likely to stay injury-free. He really does a great job.” Known to the kids as Coach Zaga, the director of athletic performance can be found at his desk in the weight room at all hours of the day and evening and many times on weekends as can our trainers. “As a strength and conditioning coach at Casady, I have my hands involved in many things,” he said. “It’s really not just the weight room. My primary goal is to improve the athletic performance of our student-athletes and to decrease the possibility of being injured. If the student-athlete does get injured, the objective is reduced recovery time with proper previous training.” Furthering the School’s athletic program is Cyclones’ Head Team Physician Dr. Matt Dumagin with McBride Orthopedic Hospital and Clinic who is on campus several times during the week and directly available to the students and their families.

16

CASADY SCHOOL

Winter 2013-14

SPC MEMBER SCHO OLS

SPC PREPARATORY CONFERENCE A PROUD TRADITION Casady athletes participating on varsity teams compete in the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC). The SPC consists of 19 of the finest independent schools in two states (17 in Texas and two in Oklahoma) and provides competition in 23 different sports. The SPC was established in 1952 and provides for our teams an outstanding level of competitiveness and a network of students at schools with philosophies and educational programs similar to that of Casady. Our teams travel to Texas and to Tulsa for many games, and the camaraderie developed on these sports trips is among the favorite memories recounted often by our alumni. Casady’s tradition of excellence in athletics is reflected in more than 150 team championships in this prestigious conference. More information about the SPC can be found at www.spcsports.org.

SPORTSMANSHIP

Players and coaches are expected to represent themselves, their school and the SPC at all times with honor, respect and good sportsmanship. Competitive rivalries among member schools are encouraged, but disrespectful behavior toward opponents is unsportsmanlike and lessens the value of athletic competition. Players and coaches are also expected to behave respectfully toward and fully comply with the rulings of game officials. Schools should not tolerate any student or adult spectator whose behavior is disrespectful toward players, officials, coaches or other spectators or who in any way interferes with the proper and fair completion of the athletic event. It is expected that any such spectator will be removed from the athletic event by an appropriate representative from the respective school.

FIGHT SONG
