m várias partes do mundo, a carne Angus é valorizada acima da média do mercado devido à sua qualidade incomparável em termos de maciez, gordura entremeada, suculência e sabor. E por que não no Brasil? Essa indagação levou a Associação Brasileira de Angus (ABA) a criar uma cartilha de normas para auxiliar o pecuarista a melhorar a qualidade da carne, a partir da utilização de animais Angus certificados e suas cruzas. Essa idéia virou o Programa Carne Angus Certificada, iniciativa que ganha corpo e volume e possibilita que mais pecuaristas possam obter preços diferenciados pela carne produzida. Atualmente, quase 300 fazendas estão inscritas no programa. A maioria é do Rio Grande do Sul, já que até o início deste ano apenas o Frigorífico Mercosul era parceiro do programa. A partir de fevereiro, o Frigorífico Marfrig - unidade de Promissão (SP) - tem abates certificados. Segundo Fernando Velloso, coordenador do Programa Carne Angus, em 2006 foram abatidos cerca de 100 mil animais certificados! Trata-se de resultado quatro vezes maior do que no primeiro ano, quando participaram 24 mil cabeças.

n many parts of the world, the Angus meat is valued above the average of the market due to its incomparable quality in terms of its softness, larded fat, succulence and flavor. Why not then in Brazil? This dilemma led the Brazilian Association of Angus (ABA) to create one set of norms to assist the Livestock breeder in improving the quality of the meat, from the use of certified Angus animals and its cross-breeds. This idea became the Certified Angus Beef Program, an initiative that is gaining size and volume and allows the breeders to get higher prices for their special produced meat. Almost 300 farms are currently enrolled in the program. The main part comes from Rio Grande do Sul, because until the beginning of this year, Frigorífico Mercosul was the only abattoir in the program. The Promissão (SP) unit of Frigorífico Marfrig has been offering certified slaughtering since February. According to Fernando Velloso, coordinator of the Angus Beef Program, in 2006 about one hundred thousand certified animals were slaughtered! This is an increase of four times over the first year, when twenty four thousand animals were involved.
