The foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat is said to have declared, “For the sake of one child, I would have founded the Society.” Her vision of providing quality education for all young women, no matter their financial circumstance, is deeply rooted in our school’s culture and the reason we are celebrating tonight. Whether you contributed to this event as a sponsor, underwriter, auction donor, volunteer, or attendee, you are contributing directly to Carrollton’s financial aid program, and in turn, ensuring that every Carrollton student receives a Sacred Heart education, regardless of financial circumstance. This year’s Celebrate theme
“for the sake of one child I would have founded the Society”
is an often-referenced quote from St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. Her wisdom and her love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has transcended over 200 years of change, growth, breakthrough science, new technologies, social development, and the evolution of the planet. To represent her vision to discover and make known the love of the heart of Jesus, and to portray Carrollton’s commitment to educate to the Foundational Principles of Sacred Heart education as articulated in the Goals and Criteria, we have chosen five of her quotes representing each of the Goals and selected a criterion which embody that Goal.
“Without effort and without constraint, tend towards the union with Jesus Christ in the depth of your soul by practicing mindfulness.” The school forms its students in attitudes of the Heart of Jesus, such as gratitude, generosity, compassion, and forgiveness. Goal I, Criterion 2
“To hold to routine for fear of innovation is weakness of mind.” The school curricular and co-curricular programs integrate innovation and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, the exploration of emerging technologies and critical evaluation of information. Goal II, Criterion 4
“Assist the ones least well-off. I assure you, to set up young people in life, if they need help, is a far better work than you think.” Sacred Heart educators prepare students to serve the common good in an interdependent world. Goal III, Criterion 1
