CARE Foundation adopts 6 government schools in Karachi CARE Foundation has expanded its network of adopted schools to include 6 government schools in Karachi. CAREâ€&#x;s survey team found the schools in the heart of the biggest metropolis of Pakistan in deplorable

conditions,

requiring

immediate

attention.

Subsequently the schools have been adopted, with the generous help of CAREâ€&#x;s supporters, and work continues for building infrastructure, training teachers and providing all educational facilities to the schools to improve the quality of education and reverse the drop out rates. CARE has adopted 4 schools in Munzoor Colony, while 2 schools have been adopted in Akhtar Colony.

With constant efforts by the CARE team and support of the friends of CARE, the schools will soon attain academic excellence.

Ms. Seema Aziz addresses Open Women Leadership Conference Ms. Seema Aziz was invited to speak at the prestigious Open Women Leadership Conference in Silicon Valley. The event brought together leading women from across the world in the fields of technology, social enterprise, finance, medicine, and social media.

Ms. Aziz shared her valuable experience of being a successful woman entrepreneur and managing an NGO, CARE Foundation, with h e r vision of empowerment to the poor through education since 1988.

CARE Chapter opens at Houston Friends of CARE in Houston, which had long been associated with CAREâ€&#x;s mission, decided to open CARE Houston Chapter to concentrate their efforts for a better, more literate Pakistan.

CARE Chairperson, Ms. Aziz, was invited to the CARE Fundraiser at Houston that marked the launch of the new chapter. The event was a huge success with many concerned individuals coming forward to support CARE in its endeavor to eradicate illiteracy from Pakistan.

CARE students triumph at Punjab Sports Festival It is a matter of great pride that CARE Adopted Government School, New Fatima Girls High School Missri Shah, won the first position in the marching band competition at Punjab Sports Festival. Several leading private schools of Lahore participated in the competition, however CARE students outshined all other participants. The CARE school also received the winner‟s reward of Rs 50,000.

Fariha Ambreen had won Telenor Karo Mumkin Campaign for her idea of „Recycling Paper to Provide Notebooks to Schools for Under Privileged Children‟.

CARE 17 completes first Academic Year CARE 17, which opened in April 2011, enjoys the enrollment of over 300 students at present. Under the dynamic and dedicated leadership of school head Mr. Kashif Rafique and headmistress Ms. Rabia Riaz, the school is witnessing rapid growth and is well on its way to becoming one of the best schools in the country.

As the first academic year came to an end with final examination in March 2012, the high achieving students were awarded trophies and certificates.

Parents, Teachers discuss students’ performance Parent-Teacher meetings were held at all CARE schools to gauge the progress of each student. The parents discussed their child's individual progress with their teachers in one-on-one sessions.

The meetings turned out to be valuable for both parents and teachers, as they got the chance to share ideas, suggestions and problems. The parents were impressed by the efforts made by the schools and expressed their satisfaction. In their remarks, they particularly appreciated the opportunity to discuss their childâ€&#x;s problems and progress reports with teachers individually rather than in groups.

CARE Students at WWF Nature Carnival CARE students were delighted to attend the WWF Pakistan Nature Carnival on the gracious invitation of MCB. The event, held at Race Course Park Lahore, saw the active participation of CARE students in the numerous engaging educational activities, including funfair, nature exhibition, quiz competition, art competition, puppet show, musical performances, games and a train ride.

Tree Plantation Drive Care Students and teachers eagerly participated in Tree Plantation Drive across the network of CARE Schools.

The student projects on several topics, including animals and plants of wetlands, on-campus plantation, effects of water and air pollution on health, fresh water conservation, energy conservation and reduction of carbon footprint, enriched the understanding of CARE students regarding the need of nature conservation and the means to achieve it.

WWF Carnival was successful in reinforcing the studentsâ€&#x; sense of responsibility towards the environment and raised awareness among students and teachers alike on the importance of conservation of nature.

The students were very excited to visit the production facility and observe the several production processes at work, particularly the manufacturing processes of transformers. They visited the winding section, core section and assembling section of the production facility.

CARE students visit PEL Factory CARE 15 students of grades 6 and 7 visited the PEL factory, accompanied by their science teachers.

The students were warmly welcomed by the PEL officials and the study visit began with the screening of a documentary on the products manufactured at the PEL factory.

The students were provided a thorough understanding of the factoryâ€&#x;s production processes and given a chance to operate the lifter with the help of a remote control as well. The PEL officials were greatly impressed by the questions asked by the CARE students.

The visit came to an end with refreshments served by PEL. It was a very informative trip for the students, who benefitted greatly from the theoretical and practical knowledge imparted to them.

CARE Foundation, in collaboration with CISCO, has launched WebEx to conduct teacher trainings and management meetings via web-conferencing. In this regard, several CARE teachers have been trained on the use of WebEx. Apart from hosting online teacher training, the web-conferencing facility would also enable online education for students in the future.

As the CARE network spreads far and wide across the country, WebEx will enhance the efficiency of the organization as the management meetings would be conducted on the said platform.

WebEx allows streaming live webcam video in every meeting or session. All members of a meeting can collaborate in real time and share their desktop documents, while using whiteboarding, note-taking and annotation tools to mark up documents as they share.

Therefore, the launch of WebEx would prove to be a step ahead in providing quality training to the teachers and increasing efficiency of the organization.
