Dear Friends of Cardinal Glennon, What an amazing year 2014 was for the kids at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. We once again saw record-breaking contributions come in from our generous donors who support all of our events and programs. We even created a new event to celebrate Homers for Health with Cardinals Nation, the Homers for Health Game Shows, which was incredibly successful! We are blessed to have received 149 estate gifts, and proud to welcome 80 new annuitants, helping secure their financial future while helping kids at the same time. Sandy Koller, Executive Director Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation

U.S. News and World Report ranked three SSM Cardinal Glennon specialties amongst the country’s leaders In its 2014-15 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. We are proud to be ranked 31st in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, 33rd in cardiology and heart surgery and 46th in nephrology among all children’s hospitals in the U.S. That is quite an accomplishment, and we could not have achieved this status without the support of our generous donors. In 2014, our Board of Governors committed up to $1.5 million to help SSM Cardinal Glennon and Saint Louis University School of Medicine build up our signature programs and enhance our top performing service lines, which allow us to continue to lead and innovate, keeping us at the edge of pediatric medicine. One of the best parts of my job is to hear the stories from the grateful families who have been impacted by our mission “Though our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.” You can just walk through the halls of Cardinal Glennon on any given day, and see that mission in motion. Our exceptional caregivers who live that mission each day are truly what set us apart from the rest. We hope you will enjoy reading about how your dollars have directly impacted the lives of thousands of children and their families. Your compassion and generosity enable us to continue to reveal the healing presence of God to all we serve. On behalf of all the children and families of Cardinal Glennon, we thank you for your support. Sincerely,

Sandy Koller, Executive Director Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation

Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) Tax Credits

Once again, SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center was awarded YOP tax credits. Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation is marketing these credits with the goal of generating $500,000 to support the Right Start Program of the Department of Psychology and Psychiatry, which helps youth overcome behavioral-health obstacles that pose challenges to successful development. YOP is a program of Missouri’s Department of Economic Development that enables youth-serving nonprofits to increase their donations by offering donors state tax credits equal to 50 percent of their donations while taking the entire donation on their federal tax returns. $493,201 Glennon Sunday

Homers for Health In its third year 2014 Homers for Health co-chairs Matt Holliday, Allen Craig, Jason Motte and Adam Wainwright raised $699,818 for the kids at Cardinal Glennon. Thousands of pledges came in from Poland, 38 states, and Washington D.C. Adding to that total was a new event, the Homers for Health Game Shows, which brought 1,500 people to Ballpark Village in its inaugural year to benefit Cardinal Glennon kids.

In 1955, Archbishop Ritter called upon the faithful of St. Louis to build the only free-standing Catholic pediatric hospital in the country. Thanks to the support of our community, SSM Cardinal Glennon was built, brick by brick, dollar by dollar. That was the beginning of Glennon Sunday. In 2014, 185 parishes contributed to raising $493,201 through parish collections and donations throughout the community.

Nuclear Medicine Suite $1,630,000

D

onations from 2014 funded a new $1.6 million Nuclear Medicine Suite at SSM Cardinal Glennon, which is the only radiology and imaging department with the newest nuclear medicine technology in the St. Louis and surrounding area. This state-of-the-art equipment allows the nuclear medicine images and computed tomography (SPEC/CT) imaging to be performed at the same time. With this technology, the information from two different exams can be correlated and interpreted on one image, therefore leading to precise information for diagnoses.

The renovation features include bubble walls, a pirate ship and a 28-foot interactive yellow submarine, complete with a movie screen and video games. The more playful and interactive space is designed to help children cope with fear and anxiety as they face treatments for pediatric cancer and life-threatening blood and immune disorders. Other areas YOU support Social Services

Social Services helps our families address practical and psychosocial issues that impact their medical care. They coordinate with medical and nursing staff to assure that families have equipment, nursing care and medications needed for departure from the hospital. Social workers facilitate protocols for our victims of violence and child abuse cases, and they team up with legislators to help keep children safe statewide. Your donations help provide basic health care assistance, such as prescription drugs, meal tickets, transportation and other forms of support to our uninsured patients.

Footprints

Footprints is a program of comfort and advocacy for families and children with complex medical illnesses. The Care Team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, care coordinators, family members and others, with a goal of having the resources and support available so these children and their families can live full lives. Footprints staff works with families in the hospital and at home to identify issues which may become difficult, and advocate to see that those issues are resolved.
