III INTER-AMERICAN PATHFINDER CAMPOREE

¡THE ADVENTURE

BEGINS! • Alejandro Medina V.

Finally, the day has come! After so much saving and planning, the III Inter-American Pathfinder Camporee begins today. This is an event that doesn't happen every day, and one that not all generations can experience. So, consider yourself privileged to be part of this incredible adventure! I remember that the 1st Inter-American Pathfinder Camporee was also celebrated in Mexico. It took place in Oaxtepec, Morelos, back in 1983, when you probably were not even in the minds of you parents. At that time, the

youth director of the IAD was Pastor Israel Leito, who is now the President of the IAD. The 2nd Camporee took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1998, with a good attendance. It was led by Pastor Alfredo GarcíaMarenko. Today, the youth director of the IAD is Pastor Benjamin Carballo, who is in charge of the whole event. He is determined to do his best so you can have an unforgettable and bless experience.

It is in these events where you can see that the Pathfinders Club is everywhere. This is an excellent opportunity to make friends from other parts of the world, and take a lot of pictures! Let me tell you that behind this event there is an amazing staff working to make this event an unforgettable experience. However, it is up to you to decide if you want the Holy Spirit to influence in your heart. In other words, it is your attitude that will determine whether you will have a good or bad time. I invite you to have the best attitude so you can enjoy all the programs and activities that have been prepared for you.

Hi! Welcome to the III Inter-American Pathfinder Camporee! This time, the camporee brings together more than 20,000 pathfinders from different countries that make up our Division. Can you imagine? This event is going to be exciting! I'd also like to seize the opportunity to welcome the guest speakers and the work team that is helping with this event. Thank you all! Your help is very important to achieve the goals of this camporee. With you in mind, we have been planning this activity for several months. And I am sure that the experience will be unforgettable. We have prepared interesting activities to teach you how to defeat the «giants» that challenge you every day, just like David defeated Goliath. But to have a good time, it is important that you follow the directions of you leaders and obey the recommendations you get.

Your friend, Benjamín Carballo C. Youth Ministry Director / Inter-American Division

THE

Let me tell you

the day has come!

On February 2010 the registration processes for the III inter-American Camporee, Conquering the Giants began. On February 13, of the same year, various activities of the different clubs started including the initiation ceremony. It is worth mentioning that the registration is divided into four phases: “Early bird”, from February to June 2010; “Normal”, from July to November 2010; “Sleepyhead”, from December 2010 to January 2011; and finally “Forgetful”, from February to March 2011. In March 2010, the different clubs began to raise funds. But not only Pathfinders participate in these activities. The parents must know what is happening. They have to participate of those activities with them. For that purpose, many meetings were organized to evaluate all the different projects. On October 2010, we began to check the prices of different material that will be used in the Camporee. The enthusiasm and effort of each Pathfinder was obvious. Then January 2011 arrived and with it the elimination rounds for both the track and field, and the swimming competition, but only the brave ones dare to participate. During that month the pathfinders that come from other countries started the “required paperwork” so they could be in this beauty Mexico City.

On February 2011, we began to review the authorization letters of each Pathfinder parents. That was exhausting! But today, after all that work, after filling up the different registration forms, after the elimination rounds for the events that will take place in this sport center of Mexico City, we have to admit that it was worth it. Although there are only four events, hiking (with the participation of around 400 clubs), swimming, track and field, and the biblical contest (with the participation of one representative of each Union), it will be exciting to see each Pathfinder give his best. And of course, we couldn't miss the so anticipated specialties. That is how the days went by with different activities. And today, April 19, 2011, are here, in this great event, those who already started to “defeat their giants”, those who made a big effort to be next to the bigger giant Conqueror, Jesus. It will be five days full of mixed emotions, but it is good to remember that all the Pathfinders are united under one feeling: the love of Christ.

Right in the Center of the Metropolis • Alvin Maya A. Mexico City grew from what is called today its “first quarter”. The territory that the city is in today was originally Tenochtitlan, capital city of the Mexica and conquered by the Spaniards on August 13th, 1521. The city started growing from the main Mexica political and religious center, known as the Templo Mayor right at the center of Tenochtitlan. Now, centuries later, there we can find the emblematic Zocalo, surrounded by the seats of the Republican powers and the Metropolitan Cathedral. During their existence the buildings around the Zocalo have changed much. There were www.visitmexico.com.mx

even green areas, statues and a marketplace, the «Parian», main center of commerce of New Spain. The Zocalo is also the main city place for large meetings, whether they are State events, national holiday celebrations, concerts or photographic exhibitions, protests and social manifestations too. Even today there is an artificial beach during the summer and a snow zone in winter. The Zocalo is the heart of the city and each heartbeat echoes Mexican history.

Did you know…? The National Palace has always been the government seat. First it was the residence of the Mexica tlatoanis and later the vice regal palace.

What are the giants that the Adventist youth must overcome? “Distractions”, I believe this is the biggest and most dangers giant for our young people today. Our youth must be able to tell in which direction they are heading and it's only possible if they know “the way and the truth and the life”. If our young people can overcome the tendency to experiment and explore temptation, they will have overcome the most dangerous giant of their lives.

mental and spiritual part of our young people. Thus, the Pathfinder Club is one of the best places where they can develop these aspects under the influence of the Holy Spirit and the grace of Christ.

For you, who is the best example of a giant conqueror?

Well, the more people I meet, the better I get to see how God can change the life of human beings. All Bible characters had weaknesses, but they were great because of the grace of God. The best “giant-killer” Why is it important to is the one that recognize that “there conquer those giants? is no limit for those who put a side Giants always seem to offer comself and let the Holy Spirit work in fort. They are attractive, inspire, and their heart and lives entirely devotoffer what apparently is not possible ed to God”. to get anywhere or from anybody else. But the most peculiar element of a giant is its height; a giant makes promises, but it can't deliver. But with Christ the possibilities are unlimited.

What is the armor to defeat them? The advice we receive from heaven regarding this battle is: to be able to discern between what is true and what is false; to depend on the justice of Christ and to practice that justice; to be willing to work for God; to depend on his faith; to trust that God will save us; to never doubt God's grace; to let the Scripture be the light “lamp” that guide our path.

What tools can the Pathfinders Clubs provides to conquer these giants? The purposes of Pathfinders Clubs are to help develop the physical,

UM Your

Club? • Merab Tello T.

I don't know how many of you have asked the same question when the banner of the club appeared in the Camporee official page. The banner said: Come and participate! This club was founded on February 2011. Its purpose was to create a Pathfinders Club online, the biggest one of the entire Inter-American Division. The goal was to reach young people from different countries of the IAD. That is how UM Your Club started. Once you registered online (umtuclub.com), you had access to all activities offer online, like contest on Facebook about the best director, adviser and souvenir from any other camporee. The rewards for the winners were very appropriate for a Pathfinder: a backpack, binoculars, a portable stove, a tent, etc. You could also obtain five specialties online, validated for the IAD. An example of a specialty that you could had obtain online

was “First Aid” or “Rules and Techniques of Basketball” and then received the badge at the Camporee. Nevertheless, this Club will be tangible. From April 20th to the 23rd, UM Your Club will have activities for all of those who are registered. The biggest live music band of Pathfinders will play in the first service on Sabbath. This band is composed of young people that play a wind instrument. There will also be a skateboard showdown, and a speed skater show. We will have professionals demonstrating their skills, but best of all, they will give classes to those interested. Hurry up, the space is limited!

From time to time, you will find groups of people going around the Campo, very contents, making mobile events in which you can participate. Events like water balloons fights and more. Besides, those who are register with the UM Your Club, will have the right to a Popsicle. They will be given away at the different booths located throughout Ciudad Deportiva. As if that was not enough, UM Your Club has its own campsite where you can obtain all the information necessary about schedule for all the events. UM Your Club is sponsored by Montemorelos University. Its only goal is to take special care of the InterAmerican Division's Pathfinders and to help grow the Adventist education.
