For the past century, photojournalists have captured the emotions of our times. We feel pride, joy, sadness, the images flood our senses. Photojournalists face many challenges but the images are worth each sleepless night, lack of comfortable bed or bad weather conditions. Through these images we may experience something more then usual. We have carefully selected the images in this issue to give our readers something to remember, get inspired, realize that world is filled with many different cultures, beautiful places but is also filled with pain. Nevertheless for each problem there is solution and there are people who fight for the rights of others, because what makes us human if not caring for one another.

If you ever dreamed to become phtojournalist, to get started, a digital camera and a computer are a must. Take lots and lots of pictures. Become familiar and comfortable with your camera and surroundings. It may also be beneficial to take some business courses, get experience in the field, inspire and connect with other photojournalist. In order to stay current, and to make a name for yourself as a journalist, it’s imperative to share your images with the world and get published and expose your stories to millions of people. As a huge and avid tennis fanatic, I always make sure to book the best seats to watch my favorite tennis players LIVE. It is shown here locally as Malaysia hosts one of the ATP 250 World Tour matches, or even Grand Slams. Also as an avid photographer, it helps to hone my skills in photojournalism, particularly in sports photography. Watching the actions as it happens and freezing the moments with my camera are perfect dosages for satisfaction. But ever since I have been issued with the Camerapixo Press ID, my sporting and shooting experiences were propelled even to greater heights! I can now even get closer to the players during their press conferences, meet-and-greet sessions and be ON the court side to capture their moves as they play. That is much better compared to VIP seats and royal boxes! I managed to get hold of all these first hand during the last BMW Malaysia Open 2014 (WTA 250) here in Kuala Lumpur, where I was given my very first media accreditation by the organizers through the help of Camerapixo.

As members of the media, we were the first to be briefed with information about the event including program schedule, players; whereabouts, special functions and even cocktail invitation. We were also treated for some light refreshments all throughout the coverage and provided with regular transportation to and from the event. All these privileges come with your passion for sports photography, so I am very much thankful to Anetta and Artur for the issuance of my Press ID Card. They are very helpful especially when it comes to requesting accreditation to be passed on to the event organizers. Just a tad note to those who want to apply for media accreditation when covering sporting events, ALWAYS be aware of the deadline for submission (unlike me, who missed two of the best tennis events this year due to late application - the BNL Internationale Italia and the Roland Garros). However, I am looking forward to cover more events (not only sports) through my Press ID. Thanks once again to Camerapixo! Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s all worth the experience!

Camerapixo Press ID Card is an excellent opportunity for professional and personal growth. It makes extremely less challenging for any project you want to build, but not only: for people like me who are used to bring the camera everywhere, daily makes it very easy, allowing me to photograph in random areas in which I could not achieve any shot without Press ID Card, and then be able to document what is happening at that moment. It's a great chance for anyone who wants more opportunities and encouragement in own field of photography!

MAGNUS MILLERFLIP PERSSON SWEDEN

Born (1967) and raised in Trelleborg. Now living in Malmö, southern Sweden with my family and two children. Have been interested in photography since the early school age. My teacher taught me to shoot and use a darkroom, so I’ve photographed quite a lot of film, and still do. After a a while, I put the camera on the shelf and began skateboarding. For thirty years, I spent almost all my free time on a skateboard. When my body started speaking out that it is enough skating now, I started filming skateboarding with a Canon 7D. After a while I felt that I was not getting anywhere in my development and went back to photography.

I’ve finally found the way back to my first passion, that I loved during my school days… photography! Photographed most my family and street photography for a while and then move on to news, documentary and demonstration photos. A lot of inspiration I get from the new generation of news photographers such as Guillem Valle, Manu Brabo and Fabio Bucciarelli. Photographers such as Robert Capa has also inspired me. Especially one of his photos quotes: - “If your photos are not good enough, then you’re not close enough”. This is something I have with me in the back of my mind all the time and tries to follow.

FORCE

Although more and more newspapers are reducing the number of photographers, I think we still need these correspondents around the world to monitor various conflicts etc. Telling the world what’s happening out there... After I became a photographer in Camerapixo family, and began using their Press ID, many new doors opened for me. I have been developed very much as a photographer and also as a person. This has pushed me to seek new assignments, both in Sweden and abroad. Last trip was to Thailand, where I followed the military coup’s first three weeks. Next trip is in the planning stage right now and this will go to Palestine and the West Bank. My photos have been published in various newspapers, magazines and TV, both Swedish and foreign.

I have always been interested in photography, but couldn’t afford a camera when I was younger. When my son was born I made the perfect excuse to buy a decent camera. I started out shooting family pictures when my son was born 7 years ago.

I shoot my world as I see it. Most of my pictures are documentary and I find a lot of the subjects and projects in my hometown of Gothenburg. A lot of demonstrations take place here, since it’s Swedens second largest city. LABOR DAY The neo-nazi political party ’Svenskarnas Parti’ marched through the city of Jönköping on the first of may this year. A massive number of protesters gathered in Jönköping form the entire country, and along side with the locals they delivered a clear message that nazi’s were not welcome in Jönköping.

MARCEL AND MAGNUS PHOTOGRAPHERS DUO, HOW DID IT START FOR YOU?

MARCEL: We’ve known each other forever. Almost... I think we first met back in 1987 or 1988 in a local skatepark, I was a rookie skater and Magnus was the more experienced one.

Since then, almost all of our interests have been mutual, and despite moving to different cities 30 miles apart, we always manage to get back in touch. When we met for the first time in ten years I had a 400D and Magnus had a 7D. I was about to upgrade since my interest in photography evolved and now, a few years later, here we are.

HOW DO YOU FIND THE STORIES YOU WORK ON? WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST STEPS WHEN BEGINNING TO WORK ON A NEW PROJECT? HOW DO YOU GAIN TRUST AND ACCESS?

MAGNUS: Since it’s most news and documentary pictures,we do a lot of demonstrations and such things around Sweden and in Denmark.

We work our way forward with information from the police, news media and different social networks. For demonstrations it’s a great idea to be on site early and have a good look around the area, talk to the police etc. It’s always good that they(the police) know who you are and get some information about closed-off areas and such thing.

One person got his leg run over by an armored police vehicle. A ridiculous amount of head injuries, due to the police hitting everyone within reach, with their batons. I got pushed by a police officer out on the street where the mounted police came riding in full gallop, and got barely missed by these large animals. MARCEL: My latest assignment has developed to an on-going project. We have about 35-40 Palestinian refugees that have been conducting a hunger strike for almost a month for asylum in Sweden. I was there for the first time only two or three days after they started, when I learned about it, and since then I’ve been checking in on them on a regular basis, listening to their stories and taking pictures of them.

Always on these demonstrations where the police is involved, we use the Press ID from Camerapixo, and it has worked great in Sweden, Denmark and Thailand.

YOU SEEM TO BE ALL OVER THE PLACE. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT LOCATIONS AND PROJECTS

Now this small hunger strike has evolved to an ongoing party. Every night local and national artists come by and perform on a small stage. A lot of people support them with everything from sleeping bags to food, now that they paused the hunger strike until the migration board delivers positive decisions.

MAGNUS: The latest assignment was an anti-Nazi demonstration in Malmö. It was the Nazi-party ’Svenskarnas Parti, SvP’ That kicked off their election campaign for the swedish parliament. About 2000 protesters were on site and it became a really violent day. Five people got run over by mounted police and two of them severely injured.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF WHILE DOING THIS WORK? WHAT DO YOU THINK IT TAKES TO BE A GREAT DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER? MAGNUS: You are capable of more than you think. Go for it. Don’t sit at home thinking ’what if’. Get up, get out and get it done. As a documentary photographer you should be interested in people, dare to discover new things and have the courage to walk in that dark back alley instead of the bright boulevard, but also have a good eye for the image. MARCEL: Get close and personal if it’s possible. If stuff is flying through the air, wear a helmet, but get in there. That’s where the best pictures are made. It’s hard to do in the beginning, but you get used to it really fast.

HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE SUBJECTS YOU PHOTOGRAPH? DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO WANT TO GET CLOSE TO CERTAIN COMMUNITIES / PEOPLE TO DOCUMENT THEIR LIFE?

MAGNUS: We try not to sneak up on them. Most of the time the people we photograph are aware that photographers are in the crowd, but if someone clearly signals that they don’t want to be photographed, we respect that. Sometimes eye contact is enough.

WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD AS A PHOTOJOURNALIST?

WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

O T O H P A N R U MARCEL: Sometimes people start to pull up their scarf to cover their face, and I wait for them to finish with the finger clearly off the trigger. It might be my own wishful thinking, but it’s a small signal that I respect their wish not to be recognized. So our tips would be this: Be humble, be honest, and respect the people you want to photograph.

WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT QUALITIES THAT A PHOTOJOURNALIST NEEDS TO SUCCEED? MAGNUS: Curious, motivated and have well developed social skills.

MARCEL: Humility, a good eye for photography and patience.

We try to show and document what’s happening in our society and our world today. Many things that seem to be small events today, might be remembered tomorrow as a crossroad.

MAGNUS: I would say that it was the Coup de tat in Bangkok this year. An exciting and learning experience. Press from the whole world gathered in Bangkok, and being new in the business I was very well taken care of, by the more experienced photographers. I got a lot of tips and help during these days. It was like we were one big family, and then it’s not every day, that you work side by side with famous war-photographers like James Nachtwey.

DID ANY OF YOUR SUBJECTS EVER DISCOURAGE YOU FROM TAKING PICTURES? No, never. Sure, We’ve been called a few names from time to time, but no threats so far.

HOW DO YOU PROMOTE YOUR WORK, AND IS IT IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

MARCEL: The Labour Day demonstration against the Naziparty ’Svenskarnas Parti, SvP’ in Jönköping this year. The day began with a bomb threat and the bomb squad blew up a waste bin in the beginning. A massive crowd gathered from the entire country, religious leaders from different religions stood side by side, senior citizens, youth... Basically every community was represented, side by side against the nazi’s. A few minor clashes, nothing serious, but you could almost “cut the tension with a knife”. It was tense, and beautiful at the same time.

We use Facebook a lot, and we have our own websites, but it’s easier to update on Facebook. We also use a few online news-services. As a new and unknown name in this business it’s hard work to make a living of it. We sell a few pictures from time to time, but it’s not possible to make a living of it yet. That can be a good thing too. Nobody tells us what to do and when to do it.

We shoot what we want to and the things that interest us.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SAY REGARDING THE MULTIPLE PATHS YOUR CAREER HAS TAKEN?

We love doing this. To do this together as old friends is an absolute blast. We talk almost every day about new demo’s or complain about the lack of them, about gear, editing. It’s a constant development.

Camerapixo’s Press ID Card has helped me on several occasions as a documentary/light conflict photographer. Since the most of my pictures come from riots, demonstrations and similar events where there are people involved; they seem to have some sort of allergy towards the ordinary tabloid-press, authorities and police, it really helps a lot since Camerapixo is a Photomagazine. This simple fact it is worth it’s weight in gold for the relation between photographer-activists if they are aware of it. Usually they ask “which paper are you from?” and the reply is I’m a documentary photographer for Camerapixo photomagazine, and after that is done, it’s a lot easier to move around and get real close and personal. Authorities and police never asked me any questions. They just look at the ID and let me in with no questions asked. I’ve covered deportations of refugees, nazi-demonstrations and similar protests, accidents and other events and the ID is the perfect tool for me to get close to the action where the best pictures come to life.

HISTORIQUE DE MONACO UNIQUE EVENT In 1997, to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Grimaldi Dynasty, the Automobile Club de Monaco decided to organize the 1st Historic Grand Prix of Monaco, featuring cars that had taken part in the Monaco Grand Prix since it was first run in 1929.

DESCRIPTION.

More than 200 cars took part in what was going to be a unique event. The succes of that first edition was such that the ACM decided to repeat it every two years. These photos were taken during this year’s edition, the 9th edition.

DESTRUCTION RECOVERY WILL TAKE YEARS Mesmerizing and captivating but, at the same time, evil and lethal. it is man's power and strength but also his great vulnerability. Fire is more powerful than us, it is merciless, it will burn everything in its wake, it will do anything to become more powerful, to expand, to burn ever more terrain until nothing is left. The fire caught the Jerusalem forests in early this summer. It looked bad, it felt very bad. Old and mature woods were completely scorched. The flames had even reached the residents' homes and obliterated whatever was before them. The destruction and damage were unbearable and painful. Recovery will take years.

MAGICAL AS TIBET

PHOTOGRAPHY AND TRAVEL Rodolfo is a Spanish photographer living almost a decade in Hong Kong, what has allowed him to travel to different countries in the region such as Japan, China, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal among others, and among all the destinations his favorite is Tibet which he has visited twice. Whenever he travels he loves to portrait different souls of the world in their own culture.

Slow travel is what allows to go deeper into the culture, to meet the people and feel the territories. You can follow his travels and experiences on Rodolfo FB page (Photographyto’s Journey) and review his portfolio on his website.

Because his passion for photography has been growing in the last years, in 2014 he decided to leave his job at an import company, to dedicate himself to photography and travel, exploring the world with more pause than standard vacation allow.

ON THE WAY TO NAMTSO LAKE

A couple of hours after landing in Lhasa I was returning to circumambulate Jokhang temple. A strange feeling passed through my body and mind, something very similar to an emotion but at nearly four thousand feet high, added odd sensations to my body which is normally accustomed to living at sea level. I had imagined this moment would come sooner or later, but at the same time there was always my doubt: whether I would return to explore the ancient streets of Lhasa or not. Finally it came true, perhaps sooner than I had imagined. This second trip to the Roof of the World would be different from the first one for sure, better not worse, just different. I came alone, but for nearly two weeks, I would travel around mountains, cities, lakes and villages with Kalsang, who had been my guide four years ago, and she was again on this journey.

The difference this time was that I felt I was traveling in Tibet with a friend and not just with a guide, no doubt without her knowledge and help the trip would have been very different. There are few places as magical as Tibet. Once I acclimatized to the high altitude after a couple of days in the capital, the road we travelled became more rural. Perhaps the most special days were after walking for hours in Lhabhu Valley. We had the chance to see small villages and meet the nomad people (semi nomadic today). The smile of Tragok, a local nomad, has stayed in my mind since the first encounter. Life can be hard for nomads but they love to live their life in their own way. Although their life may be more “comfortable” than some decades ago, it is still a hard life due to the extreme cold weather they have to endure for many months of the year.

TREKKING IN LHABHU VALLEY

We shared dinner and breakfast, conversation and silence, and I could get used to the idea of how happy they lived their lives, in conditions that in the “West” we catalog as precarious and hard. Since we arrived, they invited us to place our tent near their home/shelter, and throughout their smile remained on their faces. Sleeping in cold mountains, in remote places or in guest houses in monasteries might not be the most comfortable choice, but it is really worth it. The simple way of life of most of Tibetans, their religion, their love of nature and family, makes for a lifestyle that we might perhaps ‘considerer stuck in the past’ since little has changed for decades, but maybe this is a way of life that makes more sense. During this trip I took time to share “conversations” with monks in Dreprung Drigung and Reting monasteries, I saw monk

ceremonies in Sera, I chatted, most of the time without words, with nuns at Chubsang and Tidrum nunneries, walked koras with pilgrims in Potala Palace, Sera and Pobongka monasteries, enjoyed trekking around Lhabhu valley from the Gadem monastery, while enjoying walking around gorgeous mountain passes, and embraced the tranquility of lakes Yamdrok and Namtso (which was frozen). I became, involved (even it was only for a couple of days) in the nomadic way of life, and observed the sites in the mountains where Tibetans do sacred sky burials; but above all, I was a close observer and witness of the Tibetan way of life to see and feel how they smile, despite all the difficulties they have. To perceive how they try to get used to “modern times”, but at their own pace, fighting to keep

their traditions in this new time, where they are witnessing a faster social and cultural transformation. How children and grandparents are proud of their land and the people who inhabited it. Special and magical people and land that once you visit will stay with you forever. Leaving Tibet was very hard. There is a sense of satisfaction of having visited this special place, but at the same time, a feeling of deep sorrow stays in your mind when it’s time to depart. While I waited to embark, my thoughts are focused on ‘when will I be able to visit the Roof of the World again?’ I hope it will not be a long time...

The skills I’ve honed in graphic design have greatly helped my passion for photography, which I have always had an affinity for, even as a child. Working with many professional photographers over the years has taught me many things as well. I have always been captivated by portraits and fashion, which has become the main focus of my recent photography. In the last year I have been lucky to have many published photos, and hope this continues and leads to more commissioned work. My father was my first great inspiration, I guess. He was quite a shutterbug. I still get pretty chuffed when I see one of my photos in a maga-

zine - I don’t think that ever gets old. One of my main goals was making the transition into fashion photography. I was very fortunate to be working with a fantastic Canadian magazine ACF. They took a chance on me and hopefully it’s paid off. Working with some great models and behind the scenes teams makes it all much easier as well. Portraiture and reportage photography are much more of a personal passion, ones that I will never give up. In the future, besides expanding my fashion portfolio, I have some longer term personal projects that I am in the early planning stages.

COUNTRY FULL OF CONTRASTS What drives me is -“I want to know more” if it is by knowledge or experience. I’m in my late forties, but with the energy and curiosity of a twenty year old. I am an Israeli and my dream is that we can live in coexistence in the Middle East, today is more relevant than ever. In my everyday work I run organization that takes care of people with “special needs” in order to integrate them in the community.

Part of my family emigrated from Morocco to Israel in the mid-fifties, and I always wanted to know more about the place my family came from,

Last august I joined a panoramic trip to Morocco, for me it was a closure and a chance to photograph interesting country, full of contrasts and varying landscapes, from the ocean through the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Desert. I was recently in Serbia making pictures of the terrible floods there, and my Camerapixo Press ID Card opened all the doors for me. Where entrance was not allowed, when I showed my Press ID Card I was allowed to enter. You can see many of the pictures on my website http://www. frame37. Also I was asked by a border guard for a second photo ID besides my passport, and when I showed him my Press Pass all was OK. So I am a very happy user, as I was not sure how it would work.

UNDER WATER TERRIBLE FLOODING The pictures were taken in Serbia at the beginning of June this year and are about the people made homeless by the terrible flooding there. This is a project that I will continue when I return to Serbia next month. Also here is an interview that Serbian TV did with me. (Watch video). I use Leica cameras exclusively and am a Leica Professional, and these pictures were taken on a Leica M9P with 35 & 50mm lenses. My Camerapixo Press Pass got me into all areas in Serbia, behind police and army barriers with no problems at all. I also used it as a second photo ID when asked by the border guards, and again it was OK.

I have been a photographer for 51 years and am a qualified photographer with the British Institute of Professional Photographers as an Associate ABIPP. I have done all kinds of photography over the years and I specilised in weddings and portraits, but now I do more documentary work. I currently have projects in Serbia, Albania and Montenegro.
