The Australian Government Department of Education is seeking to confirm the current residential addresses of our students and their parents/guardians to assist in their determination of funding arrangements. We are required to provide you with a copy of the Data Collection Notice which can be found here. This current request from the Department is in addition to and does not replace, that earlier request from me. If you have moved address recently and have not yet advised the School of your current address, could you please contact our Student Records Office on 03 9835 1777 or sro@cgs.vic.edu.au no later than close of business Wednesday, 7 November 2018. No action is required by you in relation to this data collection notice. Grandparents’ Day It was a pleasure to welcome over 540 grandparents, great grandparents and family friends of boys from all levels to our School last Tuesday. They enjoyed a morning tea in the Performing Arts Centre, followed by a concert involving musicians from all sections of the school. After the concert, our students were excited to then be able to show ‘their’ school to their grandparents and family. I thank and appreciate all those staff, students and parents who work to make the day a great success, and in particular, Mr Ken Schwab, Mr Ryan Whitehead and the Development Office staff, and to the members of the CGS Auxiliary for their assistance. I know that the students who had the opportunity to show their Grandparents around the school, were very proud to do so, and I hope that the Grandparents enjoyed their day too.

Year 12 Examinations began this week with English, EAL, Economics, Biology and Further Mathematics. Many of our Year 12 students have been visiting the school over the last few days to meet with teachers and to receive final advice and last minute tips. We have all been impressed by the preparation of this year’s Senior class and are confident that they will do their best over this examination period. We offer them our full support and we look forward to celebrating their results with them on Friday 14 December 2018.

ACMI Screen It Competition 2018 The ACMI Screen It Competition is an annual national competition for student film makers, animators and game developers. The 2018 theme was ‘Curious’ and students were given three months to develop their projects, from brainstorming ideas, to the finished product. This year, Darcy De Rauche (Year 10) entered the Senior (Year 9 to12) Video Game category with ICE-OLATED - an adventure puzzle game built using the Unity Engine. With its charming low-poly art style and atmospheric design, Darcy’s ice-olated has been listed as a top 4 finalist against 2 other Victorian students and one NSW student. Congratulations to Darcy for his hard work and creativity and we wish him luck as he attends the Awards Ceremony on 23 November at ACMI.

2018 Australian Science Olympiads The Australian Science Olympiads are a national extension program for top performing science students. Middle School Year 8 Social It was a magnificent night last Friday when nearly 500 excited Year 8’s descended on the PAC stage for the big night. The boys handled themselves with aplomb and looked outstanding in their evening attire. There were a number of interesting dance compilations including the Nutbush, YMCA and the Macarena.

Run/Walk for Koala Kids On Wednesday we took to the local tracks in good conditions for our Run/Walk for Koala Kids. For one solid hour, the boys completed laps of a set circuit, with some impressive distances covered by those who elected to run. The final fund-raising was due today, so we will have a final tally next week. The leading distances from each year level were:

Junior School Music Congratulations to the many Junior School musicians who have presented an array of fine music performances this week. For our Grandparents’ Day Concert, the Junior School Choir performed the classic song Steppin’ Out With My Baby, complete with stylish moves followed by the entertaining song Whisper! The Chamber Singers performed Banana Boat Loaders’ Song with rhythmical expertise. The large audience of grandparents loved our singing. The final Junior School Soirée for the year gave many instrumentalists the opportunity to polish and perform solo pieces. From Prep to Year 5, the boys provided a wonderful hour-long concert and are to be congratulated on their fine musicianship and confidence in performance. To conclude our year of instrumental music, all Junior School ensembles are busily preparing for the Ensemble Soirée, to be held on Wednesday 28 November at 6.00pm in Middleton Theatre. With most games in Round 1 called off due to the weather, Camberwell’s first full round of summer sport kicked off successfully last weekend, with Camberwell winning 36 of the 60 games played over the course of the weekend. The First Tennis team started their season with a resounding win over Assumption on Saturday, not dropping a single set, winning 16 sets to nil. The team welcomed Lachlan O’Neill, Lachlan Wei and Matthieu Gibert to the team, all three dominating their games. Camberwell took control from the start with all four doubles teams winning their 2 rounds convincingly. With an 8-0 lead, Captain Alex Wilson-Brown and Isaac Hui led the way in ultimately outclassing their opponents, putting Camberwell on top of the ladder very early on in the season. The 3rd Mitre Tennis team had an emphatic win on the weekend defeating Peninsula with ease. The team did not lose a single set throughout the course of the match, with Jake Oh, Tommy Wong and Lachlan Brown all starring in their individual matches, the team eventually winning 12 sets, 73 games to 0 sets, 22 games. The Kayaking squad had their first race on Saturday 20 October in the annual Bendigo Cup. Boys from years 6 to 11 all competed in the event with all competitors recording great results. Captain Andrew Zeng and James Sampson led the way in the Under 16s Doubles, winning the event, closely followed by Cameron Martin, Rhys Campbell, Daniel Watson and David Thomas allowing Camberwell to pick up 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings. The First Cricket XI boys started their match against Assumption shakily, losing 3 key wickets early on, but contributions from Jordan McCleery and Ray Son put the team back in the game, eventually posting 160 at the end of the innings. The team started their bowling innings looking to emulate the intensity of last week’s match. However, despite the efforts of Tom Graves and Ray Son, Assumption were able to pass our score with 8 overs to go. The 8A cricket team had a great win against Trinity on Saturday morning. Camberwell batted first and openers Will Stamper and Thomas Newman made great contributions making 51 and 28 respectively before being retired not out. Handy contributions from Nicholas Graves and Max Grant meant Camberwell finished with 120 runs and only 2 wickets down. The boys started their bowling innings well, bowling tight, which was backed up with some great fielding. Lachlan Harker starred with 2/6 off 4 overs, taking vital wickets at key times throughout the game. David McColl, Captain of Games
