GENERAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS INFORMATION SHEET 2019 (including The Ron Wootton Memorial Fund)

for boys entering Years 7 to 11 in 2020

What are the application and testing dates? Ø Applications remain open until close of business Wednesday 30 January 2019. Applications will not be accepted after the closing date. Ø The academic testing date is Saturday 9 February 2019 at 8.30 a.m. at the school for eligible applicants – see below. Who can apply? Ø Candidates should have a school record which demonstrates a capacity to profit from the total program of the school in studies, sport, the arts and service activities. Ø These scholarships seek to provide financial assistance to enable boys to enter the school at Years 7 to 11 in 2020. Since the scholarship is there to promote attendance at the school of students whose financial circumstances would normally not allow this, applications can only be accepted on behalf of candidates not currently attending an Independent School. Ø Current CGS students are not eligible to apply. Ø Overseas students on a sub-class 500 student visa currently studying at a local school are not eligible to apply in line with the School’s policy of only accepting overseas students from offshore. Students whose families hold a residency visa are eligible to apply. How to apply? Ø Applications are only accepted online via the school’s scholarship page link www.cgs.vic.edu.au (Go to Prospective Parents then Scholarships) and this should be completed online. An acknowledgement will be sent by email. Applications will not be accepted after the closing date. Ø The Headmaster will decide who is eligible for an interview based on the completed application. Selected boys will be contacted by email on Thursday 31 January 2019 and given further details of an academic test on Saturday 9 February 2019 which is an additional requirement to the written application. Interview times will be arranged directly with the selected candidates after that date. Those applicants not selected will also be notified by email. What is the cost? Ø While there is no initial cost to apply for the General Excellence Scholarship itself there will be an $110 cost for those applicants who are required to sit academic testing as part of the application process. How much is the scholarship worth? Ø The Headmaster determines the level of the scholarship based on the interview.
