JUNE 2015

Trader’s Update WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN AUGUST TO BE PART OF OUR CELEBRATION OF FOOD? Dine In Dine Out is our annual celebration of all things food. The kick-off event is the DIDO Food Fiesta over the first weekend of August with balloons decorating the street, roaming entertainers and activities to entice families into Camberwell. Our massive marquee in the Burke Avenue car park will include free kids craft and cooking shows with food stores sampling or selling from stalls, 10.00am to 4.00pm. Saturday night the marquee transforms to a jazz lounge with live music, beer, wine and food from participating restaurants. How can you capture the crowds bought in by our extensive advertising, including our event newspaper, radio, press and digital? The Fresh Food Market have a Community Day program and a competition running all August. Other food businesses are planning tastings in store, with other stores advertising DIDO specials and sponsoring events. Be part of the ‘Taste Trail’. We invite customers to look for the posters in cafes and restaurants that highlight their ‘specialities’. What’s yours? Traders run monthly or one-off events (Ask us or your suppliers about musicians, entertainers, dancers) or special deals and recipes ideas. All will be promoted on our DineInDineOut.com.au website. What are you doing? Let us know so we can help promote your food idea.

JUNCTION PHOTO EXHIBITION GROWS Through the Lens is now in its third year. The Camberwell Centre Association works with the Camberwell Camera Club to put on this popular show, featuring award-winning photographers. Photos will be on display in store windows across Riversdale and Camberwell Roads. The event brings friends and family of this local club, and other art lovers to the area and, of course, your stores. Make sure you support this great community promotion, running this year from June 20 to July 19.

PRIZE WINNERS Our monthly competitions drive new people to our websites and reward our community for supporting us. These have included the ‘Easter Egg Treasure Hunt’ and the ‘$1000 Fashion Wardrobe Giveaway’. Lucky prize winners receive Camberwell Gift Cards to spend in your stores. Each competition has generated excellent good-will, with most entrants subscribing to our email database to receive news and updates about your stores and promotions.

Elyros Restaurant, 871 Burke Road Camberwell Tuesday August 18, 2015 FREE to Camberwell precinct traders – simply enter the promo code ‘TRADERS’ when booking online. ($20 for the public) Tickets are limited, so get in quick.

Our CamberwellShopping.com.au site is one of the best already, but an upcoming update will mean it will work better on mobile devices and offer even better value for our traders. Over half of our visitors access our website on mobile devices, often using their phone while in the precinct to find out both what’s on, and to find your store. Our customers want to know what makes you unique and are interested in your story. We are creating an even richer trader directory, with featured news and articles about you. We reach people who may not be on your database. We are also the only way customers can find some of you online. People like to research before they buy and, with 10,000 unique hits a month, our website is often their best tool to find out about your Camberwell store.

CAMBERWELL – THE NEXT FIVE YEARS Since 1996, the marketing levy on businesses in the junction has ensured that there is a marketing budget. This allows us to brand the Camberwell precinct, run the website, social media, and create a marketing program that traders can get involved with to help promote their businesses and bring new customers to Camberwell. This is how we continue to be one of the premium shopping strips in Melbourne. To prepare for the 2016-21 levy period we need to draft our next five year strategic plan and we welcome your views. A recent survey was sent to our mailing list to gauge your understanding of the Association. You can still take the survey online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CCATradersSurvey We will also hold a workshop later this year to discuss our precinct: the opportunities we have with new residential developments on our doorstep, and the threats from local competition, major shopping centres and online shopping. We need your input. If you are interested in attending our planning workshop, please contact Kerry Daly: 9813 4190
