WE PROVIDE COLLECTIONS WITH A STORY

G4 AGENCY Collections with a story

A constant search for objects, furniture, design – in which, skills, handcraft, passion and quality – are key-words. Most of our suppliers, are familiy-run businesses – of which the experiences and knowledge, sometimes go back into the late 19th Century. By returning to the essence of live and things, by the exploration of uniqueness, we try to offer – in these times of fast changes and superficiality – some certainty, some repose. For us, a more genuine meaning for exclusivity ! Our clientele : professionals : shops, showrooms, architects, interior-architects, decorators, stylists … We provide : collections with a story ! With pride, we propose to you, the first issue of our ‘newspaper’. Johan Lenaerts & Dirk Buytaert www.g4.be

PP 589 BAR BENCH, 1953 Originally, Hans J. Wegner drew this bench for the entrance hall in his house. In 1953, production was instigated by Johannes Hansen’s Møbelsnedkeri A/S, and PP Møbler resumed production in 1991. The Bench is intended as a piece of furniture that easily and elegantly blends into its surroundings, and becomes a natural and practical part of the interior. It’s well suited for short rests and temporary storing of clothes and newspapers. pp589 can be seen at many museums, among others at Tønder Museum. The bench comes in oak or ash wood, soaptreated or oiled.

PP 503 THE CHAIR.

© PHOTO PP MØBLER

1950

PP 503 THE CHAIR BY HANS J. WEGNER 'The Round One' as Wegner referred to it with his usual provincial modesty, is one of the most famous Danish pieces of furniture - and certainly the most significant and distinct Danish. In it's own modest and simple way it sums up the very essence of traditional Danish wood working and design philosophy. And it is absolutely the most important work of Hans J. Wegner.

SETTING THE TONE IN STONE

When John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon met in the first ever televised election debate in 1960, they sat in The Round Chair. It was chosen mainly for its comfort and genuine quality - made in Denmark and shipped to the USA to play an important role in this historic event. Eventually the Americans came up with a new and more telling name for this chair. They called it 'The Chair'.

VAN DEN WEGHE

With this chair Wegner was finally freed from the inspiration from other cultures and designers that influenced his earlier works. This chair was created in a language of shape and construction that only Wegner could speak and it triggered the first ever foreign report of Danish design in the American Interiors Magazine.

STEFAN ANNEREL Contemporary artist, living and working in Antwerp, Belgium

The element of craftsmanship is equally important. Annerel carefully constructs his works: he copies the motifs with paint and tape, which he applies in various layers on the canvas, with layers of transparent resin between them. In this way, he creates depth—not an illusory depth that results from line or colour perspective, but a real, almost tangible depth. In other words, the traditional pictorial illusion is reversed: whereas the ordinary figurative painting is essentially two-dimensional but tries to create an illusion of three-dimensionality, these works bring about the opposite effect—the works have a real, literal depth, but create the illusion of being flat.

© PHOTOS JAN COUDRON / ANAKLASIS FOTOSTUDIO

Annerel’s works never are what they seem and never seem what they are. The illusion we are confronted with, are not the usual illusions, but emulated illusions: they are visual double entendres that relate to themselves, glossy glosses that refer back to themselves.

A family is not a real family if it does not grow year after year! So the big family of informal design chairs, whose originator Zoe was first manufactured in 2006, with the addition of Zoe small, Zoe Baby, Zoe outdoor, Zoe pouf, and Zoe Chaiselongue through time, becomes even bigger this year with Zoe extra-large, a very comfortable super-sized version. Zoe takes the shape of the user’s body, through hundred of thousands micro it contains, which allows variable ergonomics.

For years Michael has produced his work in very limited quantities as editions of quality crafted pieces and small runs. In 2007 he set up a company to increase the availability of his objects. He traveled around the world and located small family run workshops to fabricate his pieces. The workshops were selected for their unique manufacturing skills and tradition in the use of materials.

The first collection of pieces to be introduced follow two years of meticulous preparation. It combines fine detailing with honestly expressed materials reinforcing the elegant simplicity of the designs. All the products are hand made in unlimited editions. The glass work is free blown, the stone work is hand carved, and the metal finishes are bespoke. Each piece, stamped with the designer's mark, is manufactured in accordance with the purity of his original vision. Michael Anastassiades' philosophy is to produce exceptionally designed objects of permanent value.
