The Intelligent Depower System (IDS) provides an amazing level of control with minimum rider effort and input. IDS is a simplified bridle and control system exclusive to Cabrinha. IDS produces virtually no bar pressure while delivering precise control of the steering and power of your kite. IDS is so intuitive that it seamlessly provides 2 stages of depower. Interactive Depower on Demand while riding, and an Absolute Depower method to land your kite. Absolute Depower functions similar to a 5th line system, but without the complexity of the unnecessary 5th line. Our IDS equipped kites use only 4 lines for a simple, uncluttered method of control and security. Additionally, the IDS bridle maintains all of the instant relaunch functionality the Cabrinha kites are famous for.

Its often overwhelming to navigate the many different types of kites offered today. There are Bow kites, hybrid, SLE, Delta and classic C shapes. Since most kites today are comprised of slightly different outlines and a cascading bridle to support the leading edge its often to tell each of them apart from each other. Here is a quick overview of what makes a bow kite not only different, but superior in performance, efficiency and relaunch. Read on and see why the Cabrinha bow kites are light years ahead of the competition.

Efficient Airflow The signature characteristics of a bow kite are the generous amount of sweep in the wing tips and the prominent concave in the trailing edge. These two features work together to provide a kite with a trailing edge shape that matches the leading edge. This is the most important feature of any kite when discussing clean airflow over the canopy. In the case of a non bow kite without the swept tips and concave trailing edge, the trailing edge does not match the leading edge when flying under load. This creates a major disruption in the airflow over the canopy. The change in shape causes the center of the kite to lift and the wing tips to be sheeted in which makes the kite fly slower through the sky especially when flying on the upstroke. Whereas a bow kite, with its concave trailing edge, maintains its trailing edge shape relative the the leading edge arc, providing a clean and true foil. This feature by itself is responsible for the incredible efficiency and wide wind range of a Cabrinha kite.

The supplied leash pump and threaded valve connection keeps your kite under control even when pumping up directly in the wind. Once the kite is pumped you can choose to clip off, or isolate the air contained in the struts. - The leading edge closing seams now implement a hot melt glue tape in the leading edge closing seam for added strength.
This season we take durability head-on with the addition of transitional strut panel materials and reinforced LE closing seams. We have reinforced the high load areas of our kites with a transitionally weighted material. This well-placed material acts as a buffer zone between the rigid strut areas and the canopy. The entire canopy of all kites are flat seamed and taped prior to sewing. This is 20% stronger than the free hand sewn method of a top stitch. The leading edge closing seams now impliments a hot melt glue tape in the leading edge closing seam for added strength. The entire trailing edge implements a two-ply of tough 70 gsm material for added durability and strength. The full contact between the strut and the leading edge helps to ensure a rigid frame. The positive connection not only provides stability while the kite is in flight but delivers added durability and a rapid relaunch. Improved bridle lines. We use a corded bridle material for use in the sections that pass through the pulley.

CROSSBOW IDS CODE NAME: CROSSBOW IDS CLASSIFICATION: Performance Freeride The Crossbow IDS launches Cabrinha into an entirely new era of Performance Freeriding by raising the standard of kite control and handling yet again. At the heartbeat of this new design is our innovative Intelligent Depower System (IDS) technology. The Crossbow IDS delivers in all areas of power and range of use that you would expect from a Cabrinha Freeride kite. We have implemented a Dynamic Arc progression which reduces the flatness of the arc as the kite sizes get smaller. The larger sized kites have the flattest arcs and highest aspect ratios for light wind efficiency and a wider wind range. The smaller kites have a more conservative arc and lower aspect ratios for control and handling in stronger winds. This unique design progression makes the Crossbow a chameleon when it comes to challenging wind conditions. CONTROL SYSTEM CODE NAME: POWERDRIVE IDS The Powerdrive IDS is equipped to take advantage of our new Intelligent Depower System features. With Powerdrive IDS you now have complete control of your kite whether it is flying powered up, or resting completely depowered on the water or land. Soft EVA Bar Ends The Powerdrive IDS is the only bar on the market with soft EVA multifunction ends. The EVA ends create a seamless transition from the center of the grip all the way to the ergonomic, protective ends. This provides added comfort when doing aggressive turns at the ends of the bar. The ergonomic geometry of the bar ends also serve as line winders to adequately manage your line set.
Lower Pivot Point The soft EVA ends have allowed us to lower the pivot point of the steering lines right down to the bar. This reduces the turning impulse required to steer your kite.
Floatation The EVA bar ends have sufficient buoyancy to float the control bar and lines, allowing us to eliminate the cumbersome external floats for an even more streamline, uncluttered look and feel.
No Pulleys The new Powerdrive IDS control system is completely void of any pulleys. The IDS equipped kites all work on a direct 1:1 method of control. This produces virtually no bar pressure, and leaves the bar free of added lines and pulleys.
Proven Quick Release Industry leading QR. Safety is an integral part of the Cabrinha design culture. This is why we have used the same quick release method for three years running. Our quick release has very little moving parts and is not susceptible to salt or sand. We do not try to make our QR perform any other function than to “Quickly Release�. It is easy to activate with a right or left hand, whether the kite has power or not. Its simple. Time tested. Proven.
QR2 If at anytime during the Absolute Depower process (after the main QR has been activated) you need to completely separate yourself from your kite, you can pull the secondary QR where the landing line attaches to the harness loop.

DESIGN ELEMENTS BOTTOM SHAPE Design specific bottom contours are added based on the boards performance demands. QUADSTEP - The Custom receives the very latest in 3-d bottom shaping with the concave and step bleeding through the perimeter of the board to increase tracking and create and allow true finless performance. The Center flat sections reduce the boards tendency to stick on off axis landings and eliminate spray in the eyes by allowing the nose to ride higher. QUADCAVE - The Caliber’s Quad concave exits the perimeter of the board to increase tracking and create an overall smooth ride. CORE PROFILES All our cores are produced with CNC milling. This means that every core is true to our design. Flex, profile and manufacturing consistency are all exact, every time. ROCKER The rocker is a key element in the overall feel and performance of your board. We use four distinct rockers based on the performance targets of the boards. FLEX PATTERN A symmetric pattern provides an identical flex, forward or switch, ideal for all types of riding conditions. The center sections are stiffer to give excellent edge control. Controlled flex in the tips give the boards pop and control in all water conditions.

CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS CORES WOOD Vertically laminated Paulownia produces a high compression lightweight core. Paulownia has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of all wood species.The result is simple. Bullet proof, with a smooth, consistent flex pattern. Average Density: 310kg/ m³ PVC Super light, tough, low density foam core. The basic advantage of this material is its light-weight, and ease of milling a precise core shape; producing a consistent result every time. Average Density: 75kg/ m³ EPS EPS cores are watertight and offer high impact resistance. EPS is combined with a wood laminate and PVC to provide an ultra light durable core. Average Density 20kg/ m³ FIBERGLASS LAMINATES Each board has its own unique layup. We have tested many different configurations of the laminate to produce the best combination of strength and weight. The Cores are profiled to dial in the specific flex for a design. Then the laminate is applied to support the flex and increase strength. BI-AXIAL A simplified weave ensuring durability with a loose feel. TRI-AX A three axis weave of fiberglass that is extremely strong and light resulting in a very lively feel and response. ABS RAILS The ABS sidewall is laminated to the core during the Lay-Up process. It’s designed to increase the strength while ensuring a smooth, durable and consistent ride. All rails are finished with our custom shaping to provide precise edge control and smooth transition. GRAPHIC FOIL A light-weight and tough material. Its’ UV and Scratch resistance properties’ makes it perfect for Kite Board production. STAINLESS STEEL INSERTS Our Stainless steel inserts are custom made to eliminate pull out and spinning. Our inserts are all M-6 thread and sized to properly fit the core profiles. They are inserted in the core during the lay-up process and are in for good. STANCE OPTIONS The Stance options provided are design specific based on the rider size and style and are industry standard 15.24cm patterns to fit the Sync Binding. Stance widths are measured from the inside mounting screws.
KEY ELEMENTS 3-D bottom shaping: Bottom shaping complements the outline and rocker. Different bottom contours direct the water to give a board pop, edge control, and directional stability. For the new Cabrinha collection we have 2 different 3-d contours pushed to the tips and away from the middle of the board.
QuadStep: On the Custom, 2 outer concaves frame the stepped, double concave to provide super aggressive bite. Best for wakestyle and fin-less performance. QuadCave: The Caliber features 4 concaves which move the water through the tips of the board to give maximum control at high speed. This creates high speed positive tracking. Flat center section: The flat center section smoothes the ride and assists in off axis and flat landings. Single Concave: Used in the Custom, Caliber, and Prodigy, a single concave gives the board early planing and directional control. Outline: The outline of the board is a key element in the overall feel as it influences how a board tracks and turns. The tip width helps define the amount of pop and board will have and also determines how early a board will plane. Rocker: We use 4 rocker groups developed for each board’s specific design goals. The higher rocker of the Custom promotes pop and control in landings, perfect for wakestyle riding. The Caliber has a flatter rocker for early planing and speed without a sacrifice in turning, which are key elements for aggressive freestyle riding. The Plasma’s rocker line is the ultimate in light wind performance. A flatter center section for ease of use and early planing is used in the rocker on the Prodigy. Construction: Paulownina is an eco-friendly, sustainable resource material used in the Custom, Caliber, and Prodigy. This super durable core offers enhanced dampening and a bomb proof laminate. ABS side wall: ABS adds strength to the boards in both flex and impact. We use a custom 3-d shape which features a radius lower edge to promote solid bite in the water. The dual bevel aids in edge control and water release. M6 inserts: Industry standard M6 stainless steel inserts.

The 2009 S-Quad comes in two new sizes that cover a wider range of surf styles. The 5’7 and 6’1 S-Quad are now closer to a traditional surf board shape than a tow surfing shape. This makes the S-Quad perfect for hooked or unhooked surfing in all conditions. The new wider curvier outlines make for a looser feel especially in smaller surf. However, when the conditions deliver pumping surf and strong winds the quad fins really come into their element. This season we’ve towed in the fins slightly for carving rounder bottom turns and tighter cutbacks.
