Hello and welcome once again to the Cabinteely FC Mini World Cup. The MWC is now in its 22nd year and fast becoming one of, if not, the top summer tournaments for children in Dublin. This event provides a great opportunity for all children in the community to socialise and most importantly have fun with their present friends and possible new ones. Once again the MWC has increased in size this year, now having 86 teams and, for the first time, we have a 12 team group with 120 children in this section alone. At last count we had 836 children registered and no doubt we will probably try and squeeze in a few more before the off. This season has been a very successful one for Cabinteely FC with teams at U-8, 11, 12 and even up to U-18 winning their respective divisions in both the SDFL and DDSL leagues. The greater success for Cabinteely, though, is the ongoing football we provide for all children at different levels and abilities. We continue to have six teams at all ages in the small-sided game section up to U-10. These children are now continuing to play on as they get older and this is evidenced by the fact that we also had six teams even up to U-13 level this season. At the beginning of the season we started a partnership with Coerver Coaching to focus on the continued development of the children between the ages of five and ten, through the guidance of Andy Rice and Pat Finnerty on Saturday mornings. Coerver has established a fine programme for the five to seven year olds that introduces all the basic skills of football and is delivered and coached in an enjoyable manner. This continues on Monday evenings, when another well designed programme is delivered to the children between the ages of eight to ten. By all accounts this has been very warmly appreciated by the children, their parents and team managers. We have also set up our own internal Football Development Committee (FDC) which was constructed to oversee the overall coaching and football development functions of the club. The committee is made up of five professionally trained UEFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ coaches. Led by Club Head Coach Gavin Teehan, the FDC will continue to work closely with the club’s 100 plus dedicated coaches and managers. We also can look forward to a great day on the 25th June when some of the great football legends from the Jack Charlton era come to play a game against a Cabinteely FC selection in Kilbogget Park. Aldridge, Whelan, McGrath, Babb and McAteer are just some of the top names who will be displaying their skills on the day. We’ll also have plenty of fun and other attractions laid on before the game itself, so there should be something for everyone! Please lend your support to what should be a great family day. Tickets will be available throughout the MWC. The MWC is a time I personally really look forward to. To see over 830 children playing in the park and many hundreds of proud parents, relations and friends watching can only be described as fantastic community day for the greater area of Cabinteely. The one word I feel I need to stress in relation to the MWC is “FUN”. There is really only one rule in relation to this tournament and that is that all, and I stress all, children must have fun and enjoy themselves. We do provide a few trophies but these are only token gestures, the biggest prize of all is seeing the smile on your child’s face at the end of the two weeks and them saying “I can’t wait ’til next year”! Many thanks to all who have put their time and effort throughout the year into helping make Cabinteely FC the great club that it is and I hope you continue to support your local “football for all” club. The MWC Car Park Entrance is located at end of Kilbogget Park opposite Tesco. Please refrain from parking on the footpath, as you’re liable to receive a parking fine. The Car Park will close 30 minutes after last match finishes. Thank you for your co-operation Football Notes: All 5 and 7-a-side matches are 15 minutes each way; All 9-a-side matches are 20 minutes each way; Tag substitutions allowed in all groups (in keeping with the ethos of the competition all players are entitled to equal playing time); No offside rule applies; Goal Difference will count in the event of a tie in the group stages; In knockout stages 5 minutes each way of extra time then penalties. Safety: St. John Ambulance will be on call at the Clubhouse and onsite throughout the tournament. Refreshments: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Tea/Coffee, Sweets, etc., available in Clubhouse throughout the competition; Presentation times on Saturday 18th June, 2011 14:30 for all 7-a-sides, Girls and Special Needs. 15:30 for all 9-a-sides. Managers Match: There will be a ‘friendly kick about’ between all the Cabinteely FC managers after the final presentation on Saturday, 18th June.
