Puerta Dorada
Constituyó la mayor obra de ingeniería de su época y hoy en día es una de las estructuras más reconocibles del mundo, como también así es su nombre ‘Puerta de Oro’, en honor al estrecho que comunicaba Europa y Asia. Une San Francisco, con Marin a través de sus 2,7 kilómetros de longitud y 28 metros de ancho que da cabida a seis carriles (tres en cada dirección), peatones y bicicletas; sirve de transporte de combustible y electricidad. Su característico color rojizo se debe a la pintura utilizada para evitar la rápida oxidación del acero producida por el océano Pacífico.

It was the greatest engineering feat of its time and today it is one of the most recognized structures in the world, as is its name Golden Gate in honor of the straight that separated Europe from Asia. It links San Francisco with Marin county with its 2.7 kilometers span and 28 meters wide that allows for six car lanes (three each way), pedestrian walkway and bicycle lanes; it also transports fuel and electricity. Its famous red color is due to the paint used to prevent rusting of the steel structure by the Pacific Ocean.

Originariamente el puente fue construido en madera por los romanos en el siglo I, tras una inundación, en 1348 fue reconstruido en piedra por los arquitectos Taddeo Gaddi y Neri Fioravanti.

rom the 23rd to the 26th of July, Santa Cruz de la Sierra will be hosting the 8th International Wine and Cheese Festival, a new coming together of refined palates with the most delicate flavors of the nation’s
dairy and wine industry. During four evenings, distributors, importers, exporters, hotel and restaurant suppliers, to name a few, will exhibit their best wines and cheeses in a festive environment that will include music by such well known artists as the Chaqueño Palavecino.

BOLIVIA However, the attention will be focused mostly on the famous wines of Tarija, also known as high altitude wines, and whose international prestige is growing every day. An experienced producer of wines explained once that having vineyards at over 2,000 m.a.s.l. was “closer to the sun, closer to the stars, and closer to God”, for which reason the wines of Tarija are the most privileged. It is well known scientifically that growing a grape with greater exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which due to the altitude is greater at these latitudes, gives the grapes unique characteristics which make an excellent wine with concentrated aromas and flavors, as well as enhanced color. In Bolivia the grape production is concentrated between 1750 and 3000 m.a.s.l., creating optimal conditions for the production of high quality wines, mainly red wines, with an intense earthy aroma, sharpness and in some cases sweeter with out being too sweet. The British educational institute Wine and Spirits Education Trust, has noted the increasing importance and quality of high altitude wines have reached in recent years. Sales figures confirm this statement. The different vineyards of Tarija now export their wines to Germany, United States, Switzerland, Japan, Denmark, Colombia, Peru, Spain, Holland and England, among others. Another element that adds to the improvement of the wines is the recent modernization of production techniques. Tarija has a long tradition of producing grapes that goes back to the XVII century, when Jesuits first introduced the grape to the valley. History says that in olden times farmers planted grapevines around Peruvian pepper trees (Schinus molle), which supported the grape vines. During the last fifteen years the production has become much more technical with the introduction of new varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling La Concepción, Kohlberg and Campos de Solana are some of the large wineries that will be present at the 8th International Wine and Cheese Festival, but there will also be some smaller vineyards that produce lesser known wines or utilize more traditional production methods, which are gaining wider acceptance among consumers. Sin embargo, la atención estará puesta en los afamados vinos tarijeños, conocidos también como vinos de altura, y cuyo prestigio internacional es cada vez más relevante. Un viejo productor artesanal de vino explicó alguna vez que al tener los viñedos a una altura de 2000 m.s.n.m. estaban “más cerca del sol, más cerca de las estrellas y más cerca de Dios”, razón por la cual los vinos tarijeños son más privilegiados. Científicamente se sabe que al tener la uva una mayor exposición a rayos ultravioleta, que por la altura se encuentran concentrados con mayor intensidad que en otras latitudes o zonas con más bajo nivel sobre el mar, la vid tiene características únicas que otorgan al vino una excelente concentración de aromas y sabores, así como de colores. En Bolivia la producción vitivinícola se concentra entre los 1750 y los 3000 m.s.n.m., generando de esta manera las condiciones particularmente favorables para la producción de vinos de gran calidad, principalmente tintos, con particularidades de intensidad, con aromas a tierra, con viveza y en algunos casos dulces, pero no empalagan. El instituto de educación británico Wine and Spirits Education Trust, especializado en vinos y destilados, ha destacado la creciente importancia y calidad que han alcanzado los vinos producidos en altura. Las ventas confirman esta aseveración. Las diferentes bodegas tarijeñas exportan sus diferentes ofertas vinícolas a Alemania, Estados Unidos, Suiza, Japón, Dinamarca, Colombia, Perú, España, Holanda e Inglaterra, entre otros. Otro elemento que se suma a estas bondades es la creciente modernización de la producción. Tarija tiene una larga tradición vitivinícola que se remonta al siglo diecisiete, cuando los Jesuitas iniciaron este tipo de cultivos en el valle. La historia cuenta que antiguamente los agricultores sembraban la delicada planta de vid alrededor de grandes y fornidos molles (Schinus molle), que servían de soporte a los racimos de uva. En los últimos quince años, la producción se ha tecnificado mucho, especialmente a partir de la introducción de cepas de uva varietales como Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon o Riesling. Bodegas como La Concepción, Kohlberg y Campos de Solana son algunas de las principales industrias que estarán presentes en el 8vo Festival Internacional de Vinos y Quesos, pero también lo harán los productores de los no menos apetecidos vinos “pateros” o artesanales que también tienen gran aceptación entre los consumidores. ¡Salud!

WHAT IS JET LAG? In simple terms, jet lag is the interruption of your biological clock or circadian rhythm. Your biological clock regulates your sleeping and waking hours. It is a very sensitive and complex mechanism. This is due to crossing several time zones too fast for your body to adjust naturally.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS OF JET LAG? The most common symptoms of jet lag include: headache, disorientation, anxiety, profound exhaustion, indigestion, dehydration, coordination problems. Obviously these symptoms can spoil your trip, keeping you in bed and ruining the purpose of your trip to where you are.
HOW CAN YOU REDUCE THE SYMPTOMS? Let us begin by better understanding this phenomenon, let us look at it in three parts: before the flight, during the flight, and at your final destination.

Antes del vuelo: Duerma mucho. La NASA descubrió que dormir todo lo posible desde dos días antes de un vuelo reduce significativamente los síntomas del jet lag. Por otro lado, reduzca el estrés, ya que todo el ajetreo previo al viaje puede estresarlo. Trate de preparar las cosas con tiempo y relájese antes de emprender la aventura. Haga ejercicio físico regularmente, póngalo como prioridad para mantener su rutina antes del viaje y continúe haciendo ejercicios cuando llegue a destino. Durante el vuelo: Primero llegue temprano al aeropuerto, si no tiene que correr hasta el avión, reducirá su estrés y se sentirá más relajado. Eso le permitirá descansar mejor dentro del avión. Experts confirm that the there is no medication against jet lag. To reduce the effects, simply use the advice suggested in this article. Finally, adapt yourself to your final destination; try to eat according to your new time zone which will help adjust your body clock. A quick snack like a sandwich or crackers can help you make it to the new meal hours at

Try to sleep in accordance with your new time schedule, if you fly in a westerly direction, you will probably arrive at your destination in the afternoon. No es para menos, además de las actividades propias de cualquier capital latinoamericana, Santiago es una urbe que encierra una importante cantidad de atractivos turísticos, lugares y mágicos rincones que pueden ser disfrutados en su próxima visita, sin tener que alterar demasiado su agenda de negocios o de compromisos. WHAT IS ELECTRONIC BANKING? The term electronic banking applies to all transactions in a bank that you can realise through your telephone line or through the Internet; even the payments you make with a debit card at your local supermarket can be considered as electronic banking. The purpose of the banks in offering electronic banking is to make life easier for their clients and at the same time save time for their employees, save paper and provide 24 hour attention.
SOME HISTORY It all began in 1950 with Bank of America (the largest bank in the world). They set out to develop computers that would replace electronically the routine paperwork of the transactions that the bank required to carry out its strict control of all transactions. Existing computers only processed scientific calculations and were not dependable. Imagine having to process in an orderly manner by hand thousands of checks daily, withdrawals, deposits, transfers and putting them in the right place and making the correct adjustments to accounts by hand; it was becoming an unsustainable task. It was with the introduction of transistors at the beginning of the 1950s and the departure of vacuum tubes, that made computers more attractive since they used less energy and space. do en cuenta que las filas para los pagos y los trámites son interminables procedí de la siguiente manera: Me conecté por GPRS desde mi celular mientras iba a Impuestos a hacer la única fila que no pude evitar. Ingresé al sitio web de mi proveedor de pagos, hice la transferencia, luego al sitio web de mi Banco en Estados Unidos para revisar si la transferencia se había hecho correctamente y sin mucha sorpresa para mí, la transferencia estaba ahí. Luego entré al sitio web de mi Banco local que me daba una opción para suscribirme al pago de servicios básicos con débito automático desde mi cuenta. Aunque el único inconveniente que tuve fue en Impuestos esperando mi turno para hacer un pequeño requerimiento, todas las demás cosas en mi agenda las pude resolver antes de las 11am desde mi celular. Parecía una fantasía, sin embargo pisé tierra cuando al día siguiente me quedé sin electricidad en mi casa por 12 horas debido a que el banco todavía no había procesado mi orden por internet, aunque después todo se normalizó. Cabe recalcar que todo lo que hice ese día, lo pude hacer a las 2 de la mañana o a las 10 de la noche por lo que el banco para mí está abierto las 24 horas.

I entered the website of my provider and made the transfer, and then I went to my U. S. bank’s website to review my account and see if my transfer had been made properly, and confirmed that the transfer had been received. Then I went to my local bank’s website which allowed me to subscribe to an automatic payment system that debited my account automatically. The only inconvenience I suffered was standing in line at the tax office and waiting my turn to take care of my business, the rest I had accomplished by 11 a.m. from my cell phone. It seemed a dream, but I woke up when the electricity went off in my house for 12 hours because the bank had not yet processed my payment through the Internet, but all was soon taken care of. It is important to point out that everything I did that day could have been done at 2 a.m. or at 10 p.m. because my electronic bank is open twenty four hours a day.

For me to be able to do what I did, I first had to stand in line for three hours at the bank, sign 5 contracts and wait two weeks for my user name and password to be registered and allow me to access my account via Internet. On the other hand, if you are not an Internet guru, there is a small learning curve to get up to speed and learn all the capabilities of the online banking system. Besides all this, financial institutions are always making changes to their systems to improve them and keep abreast of the competition. El banco BISA, lanza la campaña que lleva el slogan “Bolivia será siempre tu hogar”, que propone facilidades de acceso al crédito a nuevos segmentos como los residentes bolivianos, que tienen la posibilidad de adquirir un inmueble y ser, al mismo tiempo, titular del crédito y dueño de la garantía, evitando así posibles conflictos si la propiedad está a nombre de un tercero, sea pariente o no. Gran cantidad de bolivianos residentes en el país del norte desean adquirir un bien inmueble en Bolivia, por ello Banco BISA promete una atención eficiente que facilite el trámite desde el exterior. “La principal característica del servicio es el fácil acceso al crédito desde el extranjero ya que el banco firmó diversos convenios de colaboración empresarial con compañías norteamericanas que facilitarán el proceso de mercadeo y los temas operativos inherentes”, informó Jorge Velasco, vicepresidente nacional de Negocios de la entidad. THE SPANISH AIRLINE IBERIA WANTS TO EXPAND TO LATIN AMERICA
Iberia está estudiando de cerca el mercado aéreo latinoamericano con el objetivo de acometer una eventual toma de participación o compra de aerolínea en la región. “Latinoamérica está experimentando un crecimiento muy importante, y aunque de momento no hay nada concretado, estamos estudiando varias opciones como la compra, toma de participación o la firma de alianza con alguna compañía aérea”, explicó Angel Mullor, consejero delegado de Iberia. La apuesta estratégica de la compañía en el continente latinoamericano se está viendo favorecida por la fuerte recuperación del tráfico aéreo en la región, con un crecimiento interanual acumulado del 14,3% en los 10 primeros meses del año y con un aumento del 11,6% en la oferta, según datos de la Asociación Internacional del Transporte Aéreo (IATA). Asimismo, esta ofensiva de Iberia responde a la necesidad de confirmar su liderazgo en las rutas entre Europa y Latinoamérica, donde controla cerca de un 17% de cuota de mercado, frente el nuevo gigante europeo nacido de la fusión entre Air France y KLM, cuyas respectivas cuotas de mercado sitúan a la suma de ambas pocas décimas por debajo de la de Iberia. Iberia ofrece 20 vuelos directos diarios a 19 destinos en el continente americano y cuenta actualmente con tres socios estratégicos en ese mercado: LanChile, la centroamericana TACA y American Airlines, gracias a lo cual puede ofrecer otros 47 destinos en código compartido con alguna de estas tres compañías. Iberia is looking closely at the Latin American air market with the goal of investing or purchasing an airline in the region. “Latin America is experiencing a very important growth, and although at the moment it as not yet become solid, we are studying various options for purchasing, investing or creating an alliance with a regional airline”, explained Angel Mullor, advisor to Iberia. The strategic gamble of the airline in Latin America is being favored by the strong come back o fair traffic in the region, with an annual growth of 14.3% in the first ten months of the year and with an increase of 11.6% in flights, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This offensive by Iberia is part of their need to confirm their leadership in routes between Europe and Latin America, where it controls 17% of the market and faces a new giant merger in Europe between Air France and KLM, whose combined market share is just a few decimals below Iberia.
