Children’s Competition We’re inviting Burnley’s budding artists to design and name a Burnley Literary Festival Character to help us promote the children’s activities and workshops at this year’s Burnley Literary Festival 6 – 9 October 2017. Your design should be a fun, happy, bold, bright and colourful character, who loves learning, relishes reading and buzzes about books. Your character can be of any design or colour.

The winning character will appear in promotional material for Burnley Literary Festival 2017 and the winning designer will receive a prize of books and art materials worth £50, kindly donated by Tesco Burnley.

Dear Explorer Welcome to the Lancashire Reading Journey!

This summer we are inviting you to join us on a quest where you can collect magical characters, discover new places and set your imagination free.

Inside your log book are 13 Lancashire characters, each with 4 tasks to challenge you - Reading, Writing, Making or Exploring. To collect a character you need to finish 2 of their tasks, one of which needs to be the Reading activity. We want to hear all about your journey, so visit your local library and tell or show us what you have been doing for each character, you’ll then be presented with a special character sticker. You can collect the stickers in any order, go for all 13 if you like! It’s up to you. A special prize awaits explorers who achieve 6 characters! There’s lots going on in our libraries over the summer holidays and at the back of the log book we have suggested some other fun and interesting places you and your families may wish to explore. All of which will help you in collecting characters.

Active Streets is a five-year project funded through the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities Fund. The project works off three main strands; to tackle Anti-social behaviour, volunteering and to support young people who are NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). We aim to work alongside partner agencies in tackling anti-social behaviour within the most hard to reach communities to provide mentoring, training and volunteering opportunities within sport, media and youth work.

It especially targets young people who are NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) to help increase skills and confidence in providing pathways to training and employment opportunities.

The project has a dedicated team of coaches who meet up on a monthly basis to discuss delivery methods, training and development opportunities. We are keen for any young person or organisations who want to get involved with the project. Get in touch with us using the contact details below.
