Van Cleef & Arpels Van Cleef & Arpels has its roots in the creatively explosive Paris of the late 19th century, where old money mingled with new fortunes, and everyone wanted to manifest their wealth in jewelry, as has always been done in Paris. The French capital, which to this day remains the Mecca of classical jewelry art, was teeming with exceptionally skilled goldsmiths and workshops that had been delivering to kings and emperors for hundreds of years. In Van Cleef & Arpels’ aesthetics, the distinct Parisian blend of self-assured elegance and technical skill crystallizes. Several of their more famous creations, such as the necklace “The Zip,” which is a luxurious zipper and was created with and for Wallis Simpson, and their patented invisible setting method for gemstones, are almost masculine or technological in their design. Wallis Simpson, Grace Kelly, and the Maharani of Baroda are just a few of the 20th-century women who turned to Van Cleef to fill their jewelry wardrobes. At the winter jewelry auction, we can present several pieces from the legendary jewelry maker, including two luxurious diamond brooches and a beautiful jade ring in an oriental style. 487. 539. A pair of jewelled and gold Imperial presentation cufflinks by Constantine Nicholls Ewing, St Petersburg One terminal set with a natural pearl, joined by a chain to a baton terminal set with three old-cut diamonds , totaling approximately 1.10 carats. Each terminal with a maker´s initials “A.H” and 56 standard. The pearls have a diameter of approximately 7 mm and the row of diamonds is 12 mm long. In the original silk and velvet-lined red leather case set with the imperial double-headed eagle on the lid, the silk inside stamped: C. NICHOLLS EWING 4 Perspective de Nevsky St PETERSBOURG. Constantine Nicholls Ewing, born in Great Britain, was a St Petersburg jeweller active from the early 1880s until 1896. He had an exclusive clientele, including several members of the imperial family, including the Dowager Empress. Nicholls Ewing also supplied jewelry and cigarette cases to the Imperial cabinet as official gifts. However, the identity of the master with the initials A.H. remains unknown. In 1896, Nicholls Ewing’s business abruptly ceased for reasons still unknown. These cufflinks remained in stock at the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty until being presented in 1909. Göran af Klercker was chamberlain to the Duke of Södermanland, Prince Wilhelm, and he was among those who received official gifts during the Russian imperial couple’s official state visit to Sweden in June 1909. These official gifts were carefully documented, and the cufflinks had a value of 467 rubles. His wife, Cecilia af Klercker, Mistress of the Court of the Duchess of Sörmland, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, was presented with a signed photograph of Empress Alexandra in a Fabergé frame, valued at 450 rubles (now in the Sörmland Museum: SLM 7241 1). Provenance: Presentation gift from Tsar Nicholas II in connection with the state visit to Sweden in 1909 to chamberlain Göran av Klercker (1872-1958). Gift from the latter to lawyer Nils Nordlind (1911-1991) in 1951, Thence by decent. Literature: Ulla Tillander Godenhielm: The Russian Imperial Award System 1894-1917, Helsinki 2005, mentioned on page 483.

Accompanied by a Gemstone Report from DSEF German Gem Lab Idar Oberstein. Provenance: Ivar Kamke (1882–1936) was a Swedish painter who achieved great success in the early 20th century with his fresh outdoor and portrait painting. Kamke was a collector of the highest caliber, and his beautiful apartment on Engelbrektsplan in Stockholm was filled with exquisite furniture, silverware, and fine art. In the publication “Svenska hem” from 1929, his home is described as “filled with charm - a home where the quiet whispers of legends that have never been told can be heard.” Particularly fascinating is the beautiful cross that was part of his collection. The apostle Andrew is considered to be Christ’s first disciple and preached in what is now Russia and Romania. In 38 AD, he became the bishop of Byzantium. According to legend, he was crucified in Patras, a Greek city that was part of the Roman Empire, on a cross in the shape of an X - a cross type that is still called an Andrew’s cross today. This magnificent pendant from the 19th century, in a historicizing Renaissance style, is believed to have been made in Germany or Austria, and how it ended up in Kamke’s collection is truly a story one would like to hear. After Kamke’s passing, the cross has been passed down in the family.

The Heidi Broström Collection With great joy and gratitude, Bukowskis has been entrusted with the honorable task of selling the estate of the late Heidi Broström. It is a collection of treasures, some of the finest we’ve ever had the privilege of representing. In addition to this, we’ve had the pleasure of counting Heidi Broström as a valued customer for many years. Her kind demeanor and, not least, her knowledge of the beautiful home she inherited after her husband Dan Axel Broström’s passing left a lasting impression on us. Her expertise in furniture, Orrefors glass, modern art, and everything that surrounded her was remarkable. Heidi Broström originally hailed from Canada and met Dan-Axel Broström, the CEO of the now legendary Broström Shipping Lines, during a trip to Acapulco. They resided for many years in a magnificent villa in the Lorensberg villa area in central Gothenburg. After Dan-Axel’s passing in 1974, Heidi Broström relocated to their shared summer villa in the exclusive Särö. Heidi Broström found herself in the role of Gothenburg’s leading lady. In her home, she hosted meticulously planned dinners, with table settings always bearing Heidi’s signature elegance and aesthetic sensibility. The profusion of flowers was consistently striking, and many of the flowers came from Heidi’s own garden. Those who knew her well speak of her immense generosity, kindness, and her warm and genuine nature. Combined with her wonderful mix of Swedish and English (Swenglish) that stayed with her throughout her life, she became a highly esteemed personality. During her final days, she was surrounded by her closest friends, all of whom assisted her in ensuring that her dog was well cared for, and most importantly, that the social bonds she had always cherished were maintained. Heidi Broström’s eclectic but also personal jewelry collection testifies to a discerning ability to select only the best. Like many others from her generation, she often turned to the legendary Swedish firm WA Bolin for her jewelry purchases, and several of the collection’s pieces are made in the company’s workshop, including a magnificent emerald ring from 1973. Heidi Broström has been called Sweden’s Jackie Onassis, and just like the American style icon with a shipping magnate for a husband, she chose to wear Greek jewelry. The delightful gold jewelry set from Maramenos and Pateras, with its stylistic roots in ancient aesthetics, is an ornament for any jewelry collection. The collection’s crown jewel is undoubtedly the beautiful emerald necklace in a clear Art Deco style, made in France, as it should be! 559. An 18K gold and enamel ring. 570.
