The End of Droughtlander

Outlander World Premiere Coverage

Droughtlander is over my friends! If you’re anything like me, you survived the cold winter counting down the days until Outlander resumed on April 4. Christmas came early for me because I snagged a spot on the red carpet for the mid-season World Premiere of “The Reckoning,” episode 109, at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on April 1. I’m not going to lie, when I heard the news, I, fangirl, squealed. Because not only did I get a sneak peek of the new episode, I also had the amazing opportunity to meet and interview executive producer Ronald Moore and the Outlander cast, including Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall), Tobias Menzies (Frank/ Captain Jack Randall), Lotte Verbeek (Geillis Duncan), Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie) and Gary Lewis (Colum MacKenzie). It was an amazing experience for this Outlander fan. So what thought-provoking questions did I cover when the cast members of Outlander were standing mere inches from me? Hints on what viewers can expect in the next episode? The wonders and challenges of fliming on location in Scotland? Or even how they feel shooting sex scenes? Nope. My

mind went blank, but I glanced down and *bam*, it came to me. When in doubt, talk shoes. My first “shoe-terview” was with the flawless Lotte Verbeek. She was stunning in an off-white dress with a jeweled clutch and the cutest strappy silver heels. Lotte chatted a bit about filming her next movie. Look for her in The Last Witch Hunter with Vin Diesel later this year. Next up were the MacKenzie brothers duo of Graham McTavish and Gary Lewis. There are so many different layers to both Dougal and Colum in the show, and Graham and Gary portray the characters perfectly. I was quite excited to see Graham in a kilt paired with the coolest blue boots. I complimented his shoe choice, to which he smiled and answered in his sexy Scottish brogue, “Thank you, sweetheart.” *swoon* My last “shoe-terviews” were with Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. Caitriona wowed the crowd in a plum-colored gown accented with a sheer panel showing off some skin and her perfect figure. A pair of black ankle strap heels, coordinating black manipedi, and red lipstick topped off her show-stopping sense of style. She talked about Claire’s alliances and the challenges her character will face in the second half of the season. And then there was Sam. I regularly melt into a Jamie love puddle while watching Outlander and meeting Sam confirmed his sweet nature is the real deal. I especially loved the look on his face when he noticed my Jamie Fraser iPhone case. Yes, I’m an Outlander dork. I wish I had more to report about Sam, but his smile blinded Issue 27 | May/June 2015 |
