SHIIP: Medicare Costs 2022

Medicare Costs 2022

Part A Premium: Most people don’t pay a monthly premium, however if you paid Medicare taxes for fewer than 30 quarters you will pay $499/month. If you paid Medicare taxes for 30-39 quarters, the standard premium is $274.

Part A Hospital Deductible:

$1556 in 2022 for each benefit period (60 days).

Part B Premium: The standard Part B premium amount is $170.10/ month. (May be higher depending on your income). This amount is taken out of your social security check unless you are not collecting social security. If you are not collecting social security, you will need to pay this quarterly.

Part B Deductible (Providers, Durable Medical Equipment,

Outpatient, etc.): $233 in 2022. After your deductible is met, you typically pay 20% of the Medicare Approved Amount. If you have a Medicare supplement plan, the 20% is typically covered after you have met your deductible

Part C Premium (Medicare

Advantage): The cost varies by plan. You can change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another from January 1-March 31. You can also drop your Medicare Advantage plan and go back to Original Medicare as well as join a Medicare drug plan.

Part D Premium (Prescription

Drug Plan): The premium varies by plan (higher income beneficiaries may pay more). If you go to an out of network pharmacy, the co-pays for your medications may be higher.

Late Enrollment Penalty:

You’ll pay an extra 10% for each year you could have signed up for Part B but didn’t.

This penalty is added to your monthly Part B premium. (You may also pay a higher premium depending on your income.)

It’s not a one-time late fee — you’ll pay the penalty for as long as you have Part B.

Generally, you won’t have to pay a penalty if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. To qualify, you (or your spouse) must still be working, and you must have health coverage based on that job.

BSRI CELEBRATES MLK DAY JAN. 17

All BSRI centers will be closed Jan. 17 in recognition of Martin

Luther King, Jr. Day.

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American minister and activist who became the most visible spokesman and leader in the American civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. King advanced civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience.

King led marches for African American voting rights, desegregation, labor rights, and other basic civil rights. He led the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott and later became the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. King helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. In 1964, King won the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolent resistance. In 1965, he helped organize two Selma-toMontgomery marches. In his final years, he expanded his focus to include opposition to poverty, capitalism, and the Vietnam War. On April 4, 1968, King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee.

King’s birthday is January 15, 1929, but Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday, is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year. Source: Wikipedia
