17th Annual Business Showcase – Offering Businesses “A World of Opportunities” It is time again for the Annual Business Showcase hosted by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce. For 16 years, the Brownwood Chamber has provided a venue for local businesses to network with over 1,000 potential clients/customers in one location and ultimately grow their business and the local economy. This year will not be any different; the 17th Annual Business Showcase will feature over 70 local businesses in various lines of trade from banking, insurance and energy to home health services and personal well being. The show will open at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 8th at the Brownwood Coliseum and will feature well-known, established businesses as well as some of the newest in the
Brownwood area. Admission is only $2 and complimentary passes are available for a limited time at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce office. The first 500 visitors will receive a tote bag to hold all of the valuable information you will likely gather throughout your visit! All visitors to the show will have the opportunity to win booth prizes from each of the exhibitors. Those who participate in the “Bingo” game may enter to win the Grand Door Prize 5 Day, 5 Night Caribbean Cruise on Carnival Cruise Lines Ship, The Triumph! Friday September 16th at 5pm, begins the 11th annual Brownwood Reunion Celebration. Since 2001, this three day event has attracted thousands to our hometown generating an excitement that everyone anticipates. Vendors, music, food, a midway, and featured attractions will provide entertainment for all ages. If you enjoy live music, you are in for a treat! Friday night comes to life on the Celebration Stage with Eddie Money. In 1977, Eddie Money’s first album made its debut into the spotlight with hits like “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Baby Hold On”. As his music carried him into the 80’s, other songs emerged as hits such as, “Think I’m in Love” and “Take Me Home Tonight” which reached #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Eddie Money has sold more than 28 million records with songs appearing in movies, television shows and hit video games proving to transcend generations. Texas Mulehouse Ratz and The Zack Edwards Band will be opening the Friday night show following the National Anthem. Throughout the day Saturday, both the Hometown Hero and Carnegie Corner Stages have full line ups of local talent. Saturday afternoon sit under a shade tree and enjoy music at the Front Porch Pickin’ Stage. As the sun begins
to sink low in the sky, Revolution and Jason Wyatt will warm up the crowd for Nashville Recording Artist, Easton Corbin! In July of this year, Easton was honored as being the first solo male country artist in 17 years to have two singles reach #1 at radio. The song that helped introduce Corbin to his fans, “A Little More Country than That” was one of those singles as well as “Roll With It” and his latest hit “I Can’t Love You Back” is quickly climbing the charts. The entertainment carries over into Sunday with music from noon until 5pm at the Hometown Hero stage. Beginning at 1pm, Celebration Stage comes to life with local band “Free For All” followed by Todd Agnew then Group 1 Crew will take the stage to wrap up the weekend. Their faith based music has earned them three Dove Awards and several top five hits with music featured on numerous television shows. Unique and handcrafted items will be available at any of the 100+ vendor booths covering several downtown city blocks. Local vendors will be on hand as well as others from across the state. If you enjoy adventure, then prepare to witness an old West Shootout or take a turn in the Human Hamster Balls! There will also be Bungee Trampolines, a Rock Wall, Reptile exhibition, Pony
Rides and Magic Show. Stop by Military World and thank a soldier then head over to the Railroad Museum for a ride on the mini train. Kids Zone will be open for the little ones and the Classic Car Show will entertain the young at heart! So much activity will work up an appetite making the savory aroma of roasted corn and turkey legs irresistible. With TWO food courts this year, locating the origin of temptation will not be difficult! The official start of a Reunion Saturday morning seems to be the Feels Like Home Parade. Entries are still being taken and everyone is encouraged to come out to watch. The Children’s Parade is particularly special as the children are asked to “Honor A Hero”. The BBQ cook-off, Photo Contest, Cake-off & Cupcake-off, Reunion Run & Walk, and Hands on a House are all great competitions with great competitors!!! Sodexo has been contracted to operate all the foodservice needs for Howard Payne University for over twenty five years. American State Bank Opens Brownwood Branch American State Bank held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 17th to celebrate the grand opening of their new Brownwood location at 1221 Austin Avenue. Local and civic leaders were in attendance for the ceremony as well as ASB executives. The Brownwood location will operate under the leadership of Rick Kissko. Rick brings over 48 years of banking experience to the Brownwood location. He has been operating the Early location of the ASB and will remain actively involved with the location but will be located at the Brownwood branch in the role of Branch President. Study Finds Significant Opportunity for Retail Expansion in Brownwood Area
The Retail Coach has presented the initial phase of its analysis to Brownwood’s Retail Advisory Committee. According to the company’s report, actual sales in Brownwood’s Retail Trade Area verses opportunity in the market show a short-fall of $422 million. The report indicates that there are an estimated 82,225 people who reside in Brownwood’s Retail Trade Area. Based on state averages, this population would ordinarily spend $705 million in retail goods and services each year. Actual sales locally, however, are only $283 million annually. Some of the categories with the greatest “leakage” or opportunity for expansion include eating places, clothing, footwear, electronics and
hobby or game shops. “We are excited to have the first phase of this report completed,” said Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes. “It is great to have an outside consultant confirm that our trade territory can support more retail sales. We hope the report will generate a lot of interest in Brownwood among developers and retailers looking for new growth opportunities.” The Retail Coach will make a public presentation of their findings on October 21, 2011 at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The Retail Coach will give an overview of the study during a lunch-
hour presentation. A more detailed analysis will continue at 1:15 pm after the lunch presentation. A complete copy of the study and all of its findings will be available following the meeting. The Retail Coach, a national retail recruitment and development consulting firm, was recently retained by the City of Brownwood, the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation, and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
Brownwood Chamber to offer “QuickBooks” Workshop Tiffany Rumfield of Sensible Solutions, in conjunction with the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will be offering this class to all that want and need help in managing QuickBooks or are looking to switch to the program in the future. This presentation will touch on the different versions of QuickBooks – which one is best for your type of business, as well as Home Page Navigation, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and other Special Features of QuickBooks. The workshop will be held in the Bertrand Technology Solutions Meeting Room at the Brownwood Area
Chamber of Commerce office on Wednesday, September 28th from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This will be set up like a “lunch and learn” workshop. From 11:30 to 12:00 you will have the opportunity to bring your lunch and network with other member participants. The session will begin at 12:00 noon and will end at 1:00 PM so that you may return to work on time. All Chamber members may attend the workshop FREE of charge, “future” members will need to pay a $25 fee to attend. The Chamber’s Monthly Luncheon will be Friday, September 16 at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The luncheon, which is open to members and guests, will feature an interesting program and will also include door prizes, introduction of new members and a Cash Drawing— which currently stands at more than $620. Topic for this month: Crime Prevention featuring National Night Out & Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers. Speakers from local law enforcement will provide information on the upcoming National Night Out event and starting a neighborhood watch program. Heart of
