Brownwood Chamber to offer “Attitude” Workshop Do you remember the song that Hank Williams, Jr. sang called: "Attitude Adjustment"? Well, the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Doug Will from WillCo training to offer a class entitled: Attitude and this module is one of seven that falls under the umbrella of Positive Impact...How to Be

the Person Successful Companies Fight to Keep. This particular class will focus on how your attitude, your behavior and your job performance are related. We will talk about how to treat customers and co-workers respectfully and professionally and how to prevent negative feelings from affecting your performance

and actions at work. Also, we will talk about the fact that "your attitude determines your altitude". We all can use a little "Attitude Adjustment", so make plans now to attend this interesting and informative class. The workshop will be held in the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Board Room on Wednesday,

January 26th from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This will be set up like a "lunch and learn" workshop. From 11:30 to 12:00 you will have the opportunity to bring your lunch and network with other member participants. The session will begin promptly at 12:00 noon and will end promptly at 1:00 PM.

All Chamber members may attend the workshop FREE of charge, non-members will need to pay a $25 fee to attend. If you are interested in participating in this session, register today by calling Missi Malone, Director of Member Services at 325-646-9535 or email at membership@brownwoodchamber.org.

2010: Year of Change December 31, any given year: Where did the year go? With age, time seems to speed up significantly and each year passes more quickly than the last. 2010 was, to me at least, a year of change and that can be a very good thing. This year we elected a new Mayor, hired a new Chief of Police, opened a new aquatic center, and saw the old become new in the refurbished facade of the Lyric Theatre. Neighbors came together to become more acquainted for the first National Night Out and Brownwood received the honor of “Rookie of the Year” for having such good participation! For the first time in 46 years, the Brown County Rodeo changed its date from the last weekend of July to the second weekend in June, creating quite a buzz in the community and surrounding areas. Growing pains are to be expected with all of this change, but are well worth it and are all very positive. “Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights.” ~Pauline R. Kezer Change brings growth in some form

or another and fortunately it is in the area of economic impact. The economy is making a recovery despite the slow progress and for tourism statewide, it is a big relief. Inquiries began pouring in as word spread around the Central Texas area about the new aquatic center. Families drove from Abilene, Clyde, Baird and other towns just to visit our little swimming hole. This translates into out of town money spent in Brownwood! The calendar was full of events all year that drew visitors in, gave locals something new to experience, and added to our quality of life. For every $1 spent on Texas Tourism, it generates $7-$11 in tax dollars leading to business improvements, property value increases, and jobs. The folks of Brownwood and Brown County are what make this such a great place to visit. We receive calls frequently from those who have come to Brownwood and wanted to let us know that we have the kindest people here and they look forward to visiting again. It saddens me that we lost some amazing individuals last year but also showed how we rise to the occasion to

help one another in times of grief, loss, and need. I look forward to this New Year and what it has in store. The events calendar is already beginning to fill up with many exciting activities! AND speaking of exciting, our efforts for change have paid off and very soon we will be making an announcement of this change and how it will impact our area. Thank you for making this a great place to live and visit. Have a remarkable 2011!!! ~Sunni Holloway, Tourism Manager “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.” ~Reinhold Niebuhr
