The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 4th Annual Indoor/Outdoor Expo presented by Home Depot on April 9th from 10am to 4pm at the Brownwood Coliseum with a great lineup of vendors, exhibitors, demonstrations, and just plain fun. The theme for 2011 is “Picnic in the Park” and the show will offer everything needed for springtime work and play. Vendors and exhibitors will offer a variety of products and services related to home improvement, gardening, recreation, home décor, and much more. Those in attendance will get a chance to dunk Mayor Stephen Haynes, City Manager Bobby Rountree, Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley, Brownwood Finance Director Walter Middleton, and other local officials. All proceeds collected at the dunking booth will be donated to various local charitable organizations. Tickets to the show will cost $2 each at the door, but complementary tickets are now available at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 600 E. Depot. Chamber Wraps-up First TRC Campaign The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce concluded its first ever Total Resource Campaign (TRC) on March 29th with a victory party sponsored by Painter & Johnson Financial. During the campaign, the Chamber brought collected $85,000 in sponsorship money with the help and hard

work of local volunteers. During the TRC, volunteers sold sponsorship opportunities to local businesses for events and promotions offered through the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce. The TRC was designed to give Chamber members an array of opportunities to become more involved with the organization. Over a seven-week period which began February 8, dozens of volunteers worked in teams to help businesses design customized sponsorship plans for the entire year. The most successful volunteers won incentives, prizes and trips to Las Vegas. The top volunteer was Priscilla Monson of West/Central Valuation Service who brought in over $15,000. She was followed by Bryce Harris of WT Harris Company and Edda Ratliff who each sold more than $10,000 each in Chamber sponsorships.

Luncheon to Feature Workforce Solutions Sponsored by Verizon Communications The Chamber’s Monthly Luncheon will be Friday, April 15 at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The luncheon, which is open to members and guests, will feature an interesting program and will also include door prizes, introduction of new members and a cash drawing. Jerry Peters, Workforce Development Specialist, holds a Master’s Degree in Occupational Technical and Information Systems from the University of Houston, a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Studies from Abilene Christian University, an Associate’s Degree in Resource Management from Community College of The

Air Force, and an Associate’s Degree in Computer Network Technology from TSTC. Jerry served for 20 years in the United States Air Force and Retired in January 1991 as a Master Sergeant. He also served as a Personnel and Human Resources Superintendent and Instructor of Personnel while in the Air Force. Jerry

served for four years as a Trainer, Human Resource Specialist, and Commissioned Sales Associate at Sears in Abilene. He further served for 11 1/2 years as an Instructor of Networking Technology and Associate Vice President at Texas State Technical College West Texas Abilene. Jerry is a member of the Abilene Community Access Task Force and a member of the Education Workforce Solutions of Brown County. He is presently serving as a Workforce Development Specialist at Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas. This month’s SPONSOR is Verizon Communications. A representative of that

organization will address the attendees, introduce their guests and/or co-workers and provide an overview of services, including announcements of upcoming events. Door Prize will be provided courtesy of: Porter Insurance Agency and Top Cut Lawn Care. Luncheon will be approximately $11 per person to be paid at the door. Annual Open House Come celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week with us at our Annual Open House Thursday May 12th from 4pm-5:30pm in the Chamber board room. Each year we join the Travel Industry Association in a collective effort to promote the power of travel and enhance the country’s economy across the nation. For Brown County, travel and tourism has an estimated economic impact of $47 million annually and generates close to $900,000 in sales tax receipts. Roughly 610 jobs are supported directly through travel spending with residual affects in the larger job market. Tourism wouldn’t be possible without the support of our great community so please mark your calendar to be here May 12th. Refreshments will be served and our Hill Country designation will be our theme!

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Tilt Shift Studios on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 to welcome them as new members. Tilt Shift Studios specializes in wedding, portrait, fine art, and commercial photography. Owner Kim Hurt is a 3rd generation photographer and received her BFA from Abilene Christian University with a major in sculpture and a minor in photography. Kim started her photography business in Brownwood in 2007 and has been shooting full time ever since. The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet is only a few days away. There are still a few seats remaining, but the event is expected to be sold out—with approximately 400 attendees. NEW CHAMBER BOARD MEMBERS Josh Stegemoller Josh Stegemoller grew up in Brownwood and graduated Brownwood High School in 1997. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Avian Anatomy and Physiology from Texas A&M University in 2001. He is a real estate broker in the office of Donnie Stegemoller Realtors. Josh has over ten years of experience selling land, lake & residential real estate. Josh is married to Brownwood native, Hilary (Stewardson) and they have a one year old son named Gus. When Josh has time and opportunity, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and traveling. Every summer Josh grows a huge tomato garden and enjoys spending time at Lake Brownwood.

Sam Waldrop Sam Waldrop is a Brownwood native, graduating Brownwood High School in 1992. After finishing an Architectural degree at Texas A&M, he moved to Austin, Texas to continue his design training for several years. About ten years ago, Sam returned home to Brownwood with his lovely wife Jenny. Today, he helps run the family business, Waldrop Construction Company, while raising three energetic boys. Sam is excited to serve on the chamber board, because he wants to give back to the community that has given so much to him.

Chambers to Host Chick-Fil-A Leadercast 2011 The Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce are cohosting the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast 2011 on Friday, May 6, at Ranger College at Heartland Mall, 300 Early Blvd, Early, Texas from 8:30 A.M.–3:30 P.M. Leadercast is an opportunity for business leaders, coaches, educators and future leaders to listen and learn, via live satellite feed, from some of the most widely recognized and world-renowned leaders speaking about issues affecting businesses. Eleven presenters will speak about identifying and developing a personal leadership voice. Presenters include Robin Roberts, anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America”; Mack Brown, head coach of the Texas Longhorns and 2009 Big 12 Coach of the Year; and Dave Ramsey, personal moneymanagement expert, national radio personality and best-selling author of The Total Money Makeover.
