THE HISTORY

The Ralph D. Brown Residence was designed in 1963 by Phil Brown for his parents Ralph and Wilma Brown. The home has been on the market only once, in 1998. “The Oaks” is a neighborhood of about 700 homes initially subdivided in the 20’s. Many of the grand Spanish style homes in the neighborhood were built before air-conditioning—typically in sheltered canyon locations. Many view lots in the Oaks were developed in the 60’s and 70’s.

– DESIGNED IN 1963 BY PHIL BROWN –

Ralph D. Brown purchased over an acre at the end of Holly Oak Drive in the early 60’s, which he subdivided into two lots. His son Phil ultimately designed houses for these lots and an adjacent lot at the end of the street. The Ralph D. Brown Residence was the first of these three to be built. It sits on a relatively small lot (why pay taxes?), but has the most spectacular view on the street. The current owner has strived to “do no harm” to great mid-century architecture while adapting the home to contemporary lifestyles and modernizing systems.

STUDY OF GUEST ROOM AND POOL ADDITION There is a wonderful opportunity to create a pool and garden that the next owner may pursue. The sketch here is conceptual only—owner has made no investigation of feasibility or cost.
