2011 BRONCO SEASON REVIEW Highlights from Boise State’s First Mountain West Campaign The 2011 season ushered in a new era for the Boise State Broncos as they began their first year as members of the Mountain West Conference. The campaign showed signs of things to come for the Broncos who bumped up their competitiveness level when they joined a stronger league. The team met the challenge with mixed results but gained valuable experience that will benefit the program in the coming years. When the season ended the result was a solid campaign that saw Boise State record its first back-to-back winning seasons in 14 years going 16-15 overall and 6-8 in conference. Along the way the Broncos showed that they could hang with anyone as the Blue and Orange nearly upset No. 22 Oklahoma on the road. Heading into the season Boise State was picked to place sixth out of eight teams in its new league. The Broncos finished the year tying for fifth, but swept three of their new league rivals in Air Force, UNLV and Wyoming. Individually Boise State was led by a host of players as it was a solid team effort during the campaign. Junior outside hitter Liz Harden led the team in kills on the year with a career-high 313 to average 2.72 per set. She was followed by senior rightside hitter Elizabeth Griffi G n with 239 kills. Two Broncos hit over blocker Brittany Reardon who ov .300 .30 300 30 0 on the season led by redshirt freshman n middle m bl turned turne ed in the second-best performance all-time .355 percent, while all-time hitting h Darlene Nwagbuo, senior middle blocker, blocke hit .321 percent for the 10th best mark in program history. Breann Nesselhuf, histo senior senio setter, recorded a teamhigh 800 assists. Nesselhuf Nesselh was the only Bronco named named to the All-MW Team in 2011. SEASON HIGHLIGHTS ● Broncos Get 500th Program Victory CEDAR CITY, Utah (8/26) - Boise State recorded its 500th program victory with a 3-0 win against Southern Utah in the Crystal Inn Thunderbird Invitational. ● Remy Moves Into record Book for Digs CEDAR CITY, Utah (8/26) - Senior libero Amanda Remy led Boise State defensively during its heartbreaking season opening loss in five-sets at the hands of Pacific Tigers. Remy recorded a career-high and the second highest mark all-time for digs in a match with 38. ● Nesselhuf and Remy Make All-Tournament Team CEDAR CITY, Utah (8/27) - Breann Nesselhuf and Amanda Remy were named to the Crystal Inn Thunderbird Invitational All-Tournament team. Nesselhuf, a senior setter, recorded 15 points, nine kills (.100), 135 assists, 35 digs and 10 blocks during the three match weekend. Meanwhile, Remy, a senior libero, led the Bronco defense accumulating four points, eight assists, four service aces, and a team-high 77 digs. ● Harden Enters Record Book at EWU CHENEY, Wash. (8/31) - Liz Harden led the charge for Boise State is a five-set loss at Eastern Washington with a career-high 27 kills (.480) as she accounted for 27.5 points. Harden’s 27 kills tied for the second most in a fiveset match in program history since the inception of rally scoring in 2001. ● Boise State Breaks Record OGDEN, Utah (9/13) - The Broncos recorded their best three-set match in regards to hitting percentage, since the inception of rally scoring, at Weber State on Sept. 13 setting a new school record at .434, which ranked third all-time regardless of sets. The mark stood for one match as Boise State broke the record again in the next match against Texas Southern. ● Harden Has Career Night at Weber State OGDEN, Utah (9/13) - Liz Harden led Boise State to a straight set victory at Weber State by tying the school
