GENERAL INFORMATION

The sale is held under the auspices of the British Charollais Sheep Society and all sheep will be sold subject to the Rules and Conditions of the Society. Copies are available from the Society or Auctioneers and will be displayed at the sale. All sheep to be sold singly.

ALL FEMALES offered for sale are warranted not to be in lamb. Should the situation arise that a ewe proves to be in lamb at the time of the sale, then if within fourteen weeks after the day of the sale a female sheep warranted not in lamb as aforesaid proves to be in lamb and within sixteen weeks after the day of the sale the purchaser gives to the autioneers written notice supported by a certificate signed by a veterinary surgeon such female sheep has been proved to have been in lamb then if the sheep lambs naturally at a date which proves it to have been in lamb at the date of the sale either the purchaser may return the sheep and her lamb if any to the Vendor or at sole option of the Purchaser the Vendor shall pay to the purchaser as and for ascertained and agreed liquidation damages to cover all expenses depreciation in value and other damages whatsoever a sum equal to 25% of the purchase price of the sheep.

The sheep are from MAEDI VISNA ACCREDITED AND SCRAPIE MONITORED FLOCK registered with the SAC Sheep & Goat Health Scheme.

PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES will be available at the Auction Mart office following the sale. All sheep in the sale are Full Pedigree Registered.

Export of Sheep to Northern Ireland & EU Countries

All sheep are eligible for export. Tim welcomes export buyers but they will not be ready to move until after the sale. If you are interested please contact Tim prior to bidding.

CASTELLAU CASTELLAU

Well, the time has come to finally hang up my white coat and shears and invite you all to the dispersal of the Castellau Flock on 26th May at Castellau Fawr. The flock was founded with the purchase of 4 in lamb ewes from Sam Wood in 1987, who had previously purchased our Champion Blue Face Leicester and top price sheep at the 1982 Builth NSA Sale.

Over the years we have been fortunate to have had considerable success in both the show and sale rings and have made many good friends along the way. The Royal Welsh has been very kind to us winning 10 Interbreed Titles, being the 1st person to win back to back Champion of Champions in 2006 and 2007, 6 Pairs Champions in 1996, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2018, Group Champions in 2011 and Ewe Lamb Champion in 2017. We have also been Breed Champion on 5 occasions.

Championships and interbreeds have also been won at Three Counties, Monmouth, Westmorland, Pembroke, United Counties, Cothi Bridge and at the Vale of Glamorgan where we won Interbreed Champion 7 years in a row from 2008 – 2014. At the Worcester Premier Sale, we have had top price in 2008 and 2014 at 5,000gns and 4,300gns respectively. In 2004 and 2005 we had the top scoring lambs in the Breed Evaluation which replaced the show for a couple of years. 2005 had to be the best year for us at the sales. Worcester saw us take the ram lamb Champion with Figurehead which sold for 5,200gns and his full brother sold for 4,400gns. At Builth Wells we took the Championship with Farouk (pictured below) who sold for 5,000gns and equalled the record price for the NSA sale. We had the 4 top prices on the day and the pen of 13 lambs averaged £1,320.

When I recorded, she was top 5% index and top 1% scan weight with EBV 11.44, and her progeny have been my top performers. Has lost a quarter.
