2019 IONAL S T A

WORKSHOPS Capture the World in Clay with Kajetan Uranitsch and Katelijne Beukema [NL] This workshop discusses and questions the world we live in, the categories of Fischli & Weiss, and then translates these into clay figures. LET’S CLAY! The Old Courtroom | 1 Jun 15:30 | £11 [£8.50] | [2hrs] | 12+

Brighton Fringe prides itself on being a global festival, and this year we are pleased to welcome some of the best contemporary performances and events by artists from Australia, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Iceland, Korea, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden as part of our International Seasons programme. Dare to discover intergalactic adventures from Norway, virtual reality theatre from Iceland, Scandinavian burlesque, feminist/queer stand-up comedy, and much more. Our Nordic season comprises of 50 performances from 12 award-winning companies across six days, all performing at The Old Market.

Documents, Documentation, and the Post-Truth Era with Abhishek Thapar [IN/NL] A workshop which re-investigates the status and function of ‘documentation’ in theatre. Using storytelling, autobiographical material, and documents, we re-investigate the fine lines between fact and fiction, truth and lie, personal and political. Sweet Werks 1 | 4 May 10:30 | £10 | [2hrs] | 14+

This year each Dutch season company is also hosting a workshop; learn to improvise a song, find yourself with dance, question what you understand as the ‘truth’ or play with clay. Check out the opposite page for dates, times and more information on these workshops.

Instant Composition Singing Workshop with King Sisters [NL] In this workshop, Annelie Koning (‘Song of the Sisters’) will help you discover your individual sound. She will give you tools to improvise in a small group, with whom you will work towards creating a short composition. The Spire | 1 Jun 14:30 | £11 [£8.50] | [1hr 20m] | 12+

SUPPORTERS:

DUTCH SEASON 2019

NORDIC SEASON 2019 (CONTINUED)

In 2019 we bring you the very best from Amsterdam Fringe. See award-winning shows and experience some of the most exciting work to come out of the Netherlands in the past few years. This year each event is also hosting a workshop, so grab yourself a ticket and get inspired.

Artist Speed Dating by Nordic Fringe Network [FI/SE] After successful editions in Cyprus, Iceland and Sweden, the traditional Stockholm Fringe Festival (STOFF) style artist speed dating touches down in Brighton! Meet artistic peers, introduce your projects, find your future collaborators and have some fika (coffee and pastry).

I’d Had Enough So I Killed Him by Sherise Strang [NL] A dance/physical theatre solo, inspired by the life of poet and writer Maya Angelou, a woman who fought her whole life for black women, as an activist and feminist . A search for being, seeing and wanting to be seen. A search for identity, security and strength. A search for confession, for conviction, for judgement. Washing all the dirt off to get to the core, to make it visible.

14 May 15:00 (Drop-in), 18 May 15:30 (Drop-in) | (Free, non-ticketed) | [1hr] | 14+

Cock Cock... Who’s There? by Samira Elagoz [FI] Not your average show about rape, female bodies, feminism and the male gaze. Samira takes us along on her personal research project across three continents via chat apps and close encounters. Gender relations in their brutal and wonderful ambivalence. A story about regaining power and attempts to relate to men.

Körper (Body) by NEON [NL] Körper questions the unconscious way most of us live our lives. We all have our own different rituals which serve to reaffirm our idea of self and nurse our ego, but we rarely stop to consider what we actually base our choices on. Are we really in control of who we grow up to be? What made us who we are, and what happens if we don’t conform to the expectations of society?

14-15 May 22:00 | £10.50 [£7.50] | [1hr] | 16+

My Home at the Intersection by Abhishek Thapar [IN/NL] An intimate and charming performance taking us back to the conflict in the Indian province of Punjab.
