BRIDGES ACADEMY SEATTLE

ANNUAL REPORT 2022 - 2023

A MESSAGE FROM We are thrilled to share the remarkable journey of our Seattle campus, a dream ignited by a visionary parent who recognized the need for a 2e education in the Pacific Northwest. In 2022-2023, this dream blossomed into reality as we launched our inaugural year, and together with pioneering parents and students, we embarked on a transformative educational adventure.

Jennifer Allen, Ed.D. Head of School Bridges Seattle

As a new school, we felt immensely grateful for the support and expertise provided by Bridges faculty and staff across the organization. Our powerful organizational mission served as a guiding force, uniting us as we fostered a new community and provided exceptional strength-based support to our students.

Our faculty began their journey a month early, receiving expert onboarding in best practices for twice-exceptional students. Armed with in-depth knowledge about the research supporting our unique model, they embraced a program that focused on students’ talents and strengths, setting the stage for an enriching and empowering learning experience. With eager students filling our halls, we enthusiastically embarked on a year of countless “firsts.” We kicked things off with a joyous new family social and Starting with Strengths Days, setting a positive tone for the entire year. From fun Halloween dress-up days to engaging enrichment clusters, captivating field trips, and inspiring guest speakers, every moment was filled with excitement and growth. Our gala was a wonderful end-of-the-year celebration and community-building event. We also held well-attended summer enrichment courses, ensuring that students were able to continue learning and thriving beyond the typical academic year. Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the year was our intersession program. This special experience not only connected students and faculty across divisions but also fostered interest-based bonds that transcended traditional classroom boundaries. Our theme, the Seattle Central District, allowed us to delve into the area’s historical significance while forging meaningful connections within the local community. To

THE HEAD OF SCHOOL capture these valuable experiences, our technology, videography, and graphic design group collaborated with others to create a Seattle Central District Michelin Guide. This beautifully crafted guide showcased the places our groups visited and learned about during the intersession. As part of our commitment to giving back, we concluded the intersession by organizing a food and hygiene drive to support a local nonprofit organization. Additionally, we celebrated the students’ incredible learning journey with a special event for our families. One of our signature programs, the Young Expert Program, truly exemplified the essence of our learning philosophy. Our Seattle students were ecstatic to dive into their passions and collaborate with their coaches to explore a diverse range of topics. From canine psychology and chess strategy to world building, film analysis, origometry, musical engineering, and conceptual rocketry, their achievements were nothing short of awe-inspiring. In parallel, our parents found meaningful connections with one another through a range of activities such as morning coffee, an evening at the brewery, a memorable ski trip, and Parent Association meetings. These opportunities strengthened the bonds within our community, creating a nurturing environment for both students and families alike. In addition to these gatherings, parents actively participated in online and in-person events. These included a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Susan Baum on strengths and learning styles, a captivating movie screening of 2e: Twice Exceptional with Tom Ropelewski, and a remarkable benchmarks celebration led by Dr. Susan Baum and Dr. Robin Schader. The past year has been an incredible journey filled with new opportunities, excitement, and lasting friendships. As we look ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting twice-exceptional students and their families. With great enthusiasm, we await the future and all the remarkable possibilities it holds. Thank you for being an essential part of our thriving community. With gratitude, Jennifer Allen, Ed.D. Head of School
