Client: Adam Savage 47 year-old Adam Savage has loved to build and create since he was a small child. He has worked in the Special Effects industry for many years, and is best known for hosting the television show Mythbusters. Adam has a great love for science fiction and model making, and greatly appreciates the process of constructing objects, as well as the stories that are connected with them. He is an avid collector of all types of objects, from film memorabilia to animal skeletons, and would like this home to be able to house and display the many pieces he creates and collects. Extremely friendly and charismatic, his passion for learning is fiery and contagious. He is looking for a space that leaves him feeling comfortable and positive, where he can work on personal projects and also entertain family and friends.

ColorColor Palette Palette The color palette for the Savage home consists of rich tones, seen in the wood textures, as well as the saturated color accents. While hardwood floors, steel accents, metal mesh, wire cables and distressed copper pertain to Adam’s appreciation for construction the process of creation, these materials are offset by more sleek, modern materials, such as, glass, quartz countertops, plexiglass and brightly painted metal window framing. The idea behind this is to combine Adam’s high-tech sensibility with his love of history and process to create a space that hints at a rustic lifestyle with all of the modern amenities. The saturated color accents are indicative of Adam’s outgoing, energetic personality, and aim to give the space a more playful aesthetic.

CONCEPT: The concept for Fraiche is based on the structure of leaf venation. Leaves are components of a complex and beautiful organic system. The veins within each leaf are organized, yet intricate. The thickest center vein is called the midrib. It stabilizes the rest of the leaf and transports nutrients to the veins, which then transport the nutrients to the rest of the leaf. The design of the layout and fixtures in Fraiche take inspiration from this system and the overall look of the leaf. The suspended lighting fixtures above the tables in the center of the restuarant shine light on the tables, creating a bright, functional space for visitors. Much like the midrib transports nutrients to where it is needed, the fixtures transport light to where it is needed. In addition, the curved look of the lighting fixtures, ceiling soffit, skylights,and water fountains in the middle of the space all reference the natural curves of smaller veins withing a leaf. Green walls, light bronze leaf sculptures, and light wood create a serene and sophistocated environment. The space is linked with the calming feeling of being surrounded by nature, while still using high-end materials and modern decor to create a space that also feels metropolitan and updated.

The Journey of the Pet Express Design: Reinventing the concept for Pet Express retail interiors began with a focus on the idea of a modern playfulness. In order to decide how this term would visually manifest itself, we looked for inspiration in videos and images of pets and their owners. Seeing an apparent joy in so many interactions between pets and their owners, we sought to reflect that feeling of delight in the design of the store. It would be a colorful space that that was lively and pleasant, without being overwhelming. A space easy to manuever and find what one needs. In order to do this, we first decided to simplify the circulation of the store, with a single walkway, in which the visitor is able to view all signage from this main path. The fixtures used are simple and lightly colored in order to give more focus to the merchandise and brightly colored signage. The use of color was another important step in creating this modern playfulness. Although we wanted the fixtures to remain simple and a bit stark, the walls feature rich blues, with red-orange and yellow accents, in order to create contrast. In addition, the colors chosen reference the Pet Express brand colors to visually reinforce the brand.

CONCEPT: The concept for the Trece Martires Shoemart Department Store is derived from the idea of ease and leisure. The store is located in an area with a beautiful tropical climate, and therefore, we felt it was important to incorporate the feeling of the surrounding area into the design of the store. Although the design is not tropical, the focal frames throughout are created with thin tubular steel, which alludes to a feeling of lightness and ease. Moving away from a design with heavy focal frames made of wood, the tubular steel frames are more open and allow for more focus on the graphics and merchandise within the store. Many of the floor fixtures use tubular steel as well and are formed from simple geometric shapes. The design of the store is light and modern, and clearly separates department categories by frame and accent colors.
