New York Pizza Department A major goal of New York Pizza Department is giving patrons the full experience of its namesake city without the requisite travel time. The restaurant just celebrated its one-year anniversary March 26, and has already been named Best New Restaurant in Tennessee for 2012 by Urbanspoon.com, as well as one of the “Top Ten Restaurants in Chattanooga” for 2013 by the same site. Offering Chattanooga’s first authentic New York pizza by the slice—available in either the big, foldable style or with thick, chewy “Sicilian” crust—as well as whole pies, NYPD has something to please everyone. These pies are also a full 24 inches, almost half a size larger than any competitor. Eighteen different specialty pies are on offer, including the “Meaty Accusation” (pepperoni, meatball, ground sausage and bacon) and the “Brazen Brooklyn Buffalo” (grilled chicken breast, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, tomato and mozzarella cheese). Other specialties of New York pizzerias are available as well, from garlic knots to calzones and stromboli. New menu additions include authentic Philly cheesesteaks and Italian beef sandwiches. They even have tiramisu, cannoli and New York cheesecake for dessert! With a commitment to handmade, from-scratch ingredients, your choice always comes with the highest quality in mind. The Cilen brothers consider their family-run establishment a tribute to the fallen heroes of 9/11, an event that shaped the lives of people around the globe. They also acknowledge the sacrifices made each and every day by police officers, firefighters, emergency responders and military personnel everywhere. A new expansion opens by the middle of May that includes more seating inside and on the patio, as well as an event room that can accommodate up to 40 people.
