BRECK MUSIC Breckenridge Music, now a privately funded division of Breckenridge Creative Arts, has been delivering high-quality live music performances and broad-based community music education to Summit County since 1981. Breck Music’s three core programs are: Breck Music Presents, a year-round series of pop music national touring acts at the Riverwalk Center; Breck Music Education, an annual series of in-school programs and free community events; and the annual Breckenridge Music Festival, a classical music festival under the innovative artistic direction of Steven Schick.

Event Registration, Reservation and Ticket Purchase As we envisioned the 2021 season, we felt it our duty to help heal our community and therefore are offering as much of the programming as possible for free. As such, attendees will be directed to either register, reserve seats or buy tickets for the events that follow. Events that require registration are either free and general admission or for paid BreckCreate workshops and classes. Events that require reservations are free with reserved seating. Events that require ticket purchase are Breckenridge Music Presents events and the Gold Fest AirStage fundraiser. All registrations, reservations and ticket purchases are first come, first served.

AIRSTAGE BLOCK PARTIES This summer, Breck Music in partnership with BreckCreate, utilizes the AirStage to bring music and art directly to the people of Breckenridge and beyond. These small community gatherings will have limited capacity with priority given to local neighborhood attendees. Breck Music will work with a neighborhood representative for each Block Party. These representatives then will personally invite neighborhood residents and include registration instructions. Attendees must register in advance in order to attend; registration is first come, first served. Breck Music has programmed these events with a diverse range of regional talent including AfricanAmerican folk ’n’ roots, indie folk and singer-songwriters.

Youth on Record Residency Jun 21–26 Breck Music is proud to partner with Youth On Record (YOR), a non-profit organization that uses music and art to empower youth. YOR designs and implements strengths-based, music-centered programs intended to equip young people from historically under-resourced communities with skills needed to find success in life. This week-long residency will feature YOR teaching artists, student participants as well as YOR regional partner artists, iZCALLi and The Reminders.

Flavors of bluegrass, folk, blues, Tex-Mex, Old Time music and classic country, are a reflection of today’s American music scene. Steel Betty, the hip, virtuosic trio, embraces Austin’s eclectic culture and brings this lively music out of Texas for the rest of the country to experience.

Dragondeer Aug 19–22 Denver-based band Dragondeer blends psychedelic blues, retro funk, soul and rock ’n’ roll into a genre blur that aims to speak to souls and keep the body moving. Four good friends brew a songcentric musical alchemy with a proclivity to stretch things out and see where the evening leads. Heard across radio waves, through the trees at festivals like Electric Forest, Firefly and Telluride Blues, this band keeps growing and morphing and wants you in on the ride.

TEENS, cont'd Music Creation and Creative Empowerment Ages 12+ | Riverwalk | FREE Mona (Monalicious) is a medicine woman of sound, a composer of groovy tunes and empowering mantras. As a songwriter they balance humility with majesty. As a native to Denver, they have grown with the city and have flourished in the arts community through music and leadership. In this class participants will explore music composition and creation and how to develop empowerment through creative expression. Remixing Media Ages 12+ | Fuqua Livery | FREE led by rapper and artist Mace Windu Devin Urioste also known as Mace Windu, is a local Denver MC, producer and visual artist. Mace, being in his early 20s, has been roaming the city spreading his creative talents amongst various DPS schools, the University of Denver, Anythink libraries, and most importantly Youth on Record. In this collage/visual art class, participants will learn how to use a new tool that is useful when it comes to building a further extension of yourself. When we create, whatever we create further expresses our identity and who we are as individuals. In particular, collaging is a simpler form of physical art when it comes to the process, but collage pushes you to identify pieces of yourself in everyday life. It is a way to identify what is aesthetically pleasing to you and what brings the most feeling to your body, mind and soul.

Workshops take place concurrently and participants may register for one workshop for all three days or all three workshops for one day. Registration is encouraged to reserve a space as capacities are limited. Please contact Drea Edwards at 970 547 3116 ext 1 or drea@breckcreate.org with questions. more info + registration | 970 547 3100 | breckmusic.org

BRECK MUSIC PRESENTS Asleep at the Wheel Still “Comin’ Right At Ya!” - Celebrating 50 Years Aug 13 | 7:30pm $30/$40/$50 | Riverwalk Center The number of individual artists and bands who have sustained a thriving career for a half century is infinitesimally small. Against all odds, Asleep At the Wheel is one of these. Since inception, Asleep at the Wheel has received 10 GRAMMY® Awards, was cited by the Country Music Association as 1976 Touring Band of the Year and were given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Americana Music Association in 2009. They have released 31 albums, charted more than 20 singles on the country charts. Most recently, Asleep at the Wheel has been invigorated by a fresh new lineup and the release of New Routes, their latest album that is a bracing blend of original songs and vibrant cover material along with some unanticipated new musical tangents. Asleep At the Wheel have demonstrated convincingly, that they are more relevant, enjoyable and musically nimble than at any time in its 50-year history.

BRECK MUSIC PRESENTS, cont'd Indigo Girls Aug 18 | 7:30pm $65/$70/$75| Riverwalk Center On their 16th studio album, Indigo Girls tell their origin story. Look Long is a stirring and eclectic collection of songs that finds the duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers reunited with their strongest backing band to date as they chronicle their personal upbringings with more specificity and focus than they have on any previous song-cycle. “We’re fallible creatures shaped by the physics of life,” says Saliers. “We’re shaped by our past; what makes us who we are? And why?”

AWAKENING Come Alive with Breck Music. In celebration of the 40th Breckenridge Music Festival, we are not imagining how we will return to business-as-usual after the pandemic; we are eager to embrace a new future, with new music, new projects and a new sense of dedication to our listeners. We are eager for a new awakening! Built around themes of optimism and new beginnings, we are creating new initiatives as well as spiffing up much-loved traditional aspects of past festivals. We’ll be more mobile, more flexible and more inventive than ever before. On our new AirStage—a high-tech retrofitted Airstream trailer with a built-in stage—we’ll present small ensemble versions of our innovative Tiny Porches and Family concerts. On the stage of the Riverwalk Center, we’ll offer our trademark combination of beloved classical music and new work. You’ll hear a stellar ensemble of 15 professional musicians from across the country perform lots of music that you already know and love from Brahms and Wagner to Debussy and Stravinsky. And you’ll make some new composer friends from Steve Reich to Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. We’re not going back; we’re going forward! Join us for our 2021 season—An Awakening! VISITING AIRS Robert Whyte House Elizabeth Powell Colchester, VT Jul + Aug Printmaker Elizabeth Powell has an unusual background in both fine arts and economics. She has a keen interest in color theory, patterning and the morphology of shapes as psychological representations of femininity. Having extensively studied gender inequality in her economic studies, Powell explores the way the same sociological differences that lead to a systemic economic imbalance between men and women, present themselves in visual taste for form, pattern, and color. This interest exhibits itself mainly in her study of decorative arts, examining fashion, wallpaper, jewelry, and other forms of art that are typically associated with femininity. Meet + make with Elizabeth Saturdays in Jul + Aug @ Arts District Lawn
