The great corporate mythmaking machine has been hard at work of late, attempting to create the false impression that US corporations are increasingly uncompetitive with their foreign rivals due to the fact they pay much higher corporate taxes in the US and abroad than their capitalist counterparts. But that is one of the great myths perpetrated by corporate apologists, pundits and their politician friends. The myth is high in the pantheon of conscious falsifications their marketing machines feed the American public, right up there along with such other false notions that `business tax cuts create jobs’, `free trade benefits everyone’, `income inequality is due to a worker’s own low productivity contribution’, `overpaid public workers are the cause of states’ budget deficits’, or that `social security and medicare are going broke’. Onions (red and yellow)- 10 pounds for $15.00, 25 pounds for $30.00 Potatoes- 10 pounds for $15, 20 pounds for $25.00 Carrots- 10 pounds for $16.00 Beets10 pounds for $16.00 Winter squash- 20 pounds for $18 When French President Nicolas Sarkozy was defeated in 2012, soon thereafter French police actually went into his private residence searching for an alleged $50,000 in illicit campaign contributions from the LOreale heiress. Seriously? $50,000 in a presidential campaign? Our presidential campaigns cost a billion dollars each! $50,000 is a rounding error, not a basis for police action. Why, George W. Bush took millions from arms manufacturers and then ginned up a war for them, and the police havent been anywhere near his house. Mercenary / Soldier of Fortune (Africa / USA) Curious if there is anybody in Africa willing to aid the Somalian / Ethiopian or otherwise African pirates in a joint effort with Mubarak / Ahmadinejad / Kony / et. al / to invest in a few (many) cargo container ships to fill with Humvees and the weapons of war, stealth that bitch into some American harbors with some sort of front / alleged business, then roll out with cargo ships of platoons of African soldiers and steadly wage a war against the domestic homeland of America. They do take cargo ships form Iran/ Egypt/ many other places each and every day and night. Doing this under the cover of darkness could prove itself successful. America works like a game of “King of the Hill” the citizens and average people are only willing to defend their own land. The police are under-armed compared to the African Rebels/ Soldiers, and the Military is occupied with foreign war. Harbors are too sensitive and vulnerable of an economic staging point to be bombed without crippling the economy. Seeing how most harbors are adjacent to major port towns. - An Estranged African Nationalist * Location: Africa / USA * Compensation: $10,000+ Many museums in Europe and Ameri-

We have allowed ourselves to embrace an ideology which, at its core, states that all governance is about maximizing corporate profit at the expense of the citizenry. For what do we have structures of government, for what do we have institutions of state, if not to hold up all the citizenry, and especially the most vulnerable? The Occupy movement has been systematically crushed, and the government is working to prevent such movements from rising again. The left bears fault for how weak mass movements have become in the country. Shaka (Albert), Zulu and Hooks (Herman) Revolutionary Greetings my People: I can imagine that when the founding Brothers founded the Black Panther in Oakland, CA in 1966, they could not have envisioned the mayhem, murder, hatred and the false imprisonment of our sisters, brothers by the evil empire, with hundreds who are languishing in the nation’s many solitary confinement units to this day. I can also imagine that they could not have foreseen all of the accomplishments that were made as well. The Breakfast Program, Medicare, the influence that we have had and still have on revolut ionary groups around the world and a legacy that is so vibrate that only a Panther can tell its history. Remember George W. Bush? He was the president who told the nation and world that the United States of America does not torture our prisoners. Did I miss something last week or did I actually hear FBI directordesignate James Comey admit to Senator Al Franken that prisoners at Gitmo were shackled in a standing position for seven days at a stretch to deprive them of sleep. TDCJ does things a bit different. They have what’s called the “Intensive Cell Searches” wherein an inmate cell is searched every hour of the day and night subsequent to that offender assaulting a guard. This little program goes on for months at a time right here on the Polunsky Unit. For those of us who walk out the front door, TDCJ has “Intensive Cell Moves.” For my first five years of solitary confinement in the concrete box, I was required to exchange cells with another inmate at least once every 72 hours. With more than 17 years of Solitary Confinement or Administrative Segregation now done, I graduated to cell moves once every two weeks. Why is moving around a big deal? Try moving into a different cell behind a mentally ill inmate who leaves special little treasures of poop in the cell. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. That’s a great

combination with the poop left behind. It is now time to take action. We need an emergency climate pathway,” said Yeb Sano, head of the government’s delegation to the UN climate talks, in an article for the Guardian, in which he challenged climate sceptics to “get off their ivory towers” to see the impacts of climate change firsthand. Sano, whose family comes from the devastated town of Tacloban where the typhoon Haiyan made landfall on Friday, said that countries such as the Philippines did not have time to wait for an international climate deal, which countries have agreed to reach in Paris in 2015. “What my country is going through as a result of this extreme climate event is madness,” he told delagates from 190 countries, as UN climate negotiations get underway for a fortnight today in Warsaw. “The climate crisis is madness. We can stop this madness. Right here in Warsaw. Typhoons such as Haiyan and its impacts represent a sobering reminder to the international community that we cannot afford to procrastinate on climate action... The 24,000-year-old remains of a young boy from the Siberian village of Malata have added a new root to the family tree of indigenous Americans. While some of the New World’s native ancestry clearly traces back to east Asia, the Malata boy’s genome -- the oldest known of any modern human -- shows that up to one-third of that ancestry can be traced back to Europe. The results show that people related to western Eurasians had spread further east than anyone had suspected, and lived in Siberia during the coldest parts of the last Ice Age. A hot summer preceded by a balmy spring and a beautiful and long lasting fall have been great for boating and general fun in the area. The economy is picking up and there is a general optimism in the air. The process is gradual, insidious, lethal. It starts with financial stress in various forms, and then, according to growing evidence, leads to health problems and shorter lives. Financial stress is brought upon us by the profit motive of capitalism, which offers little incentive to feed hungry children, to treat the sick, to secure us in retirement, to provide job opportunities for middle-class Americans. Some of the steps in the process are becoming more and more familiar to us. “As more than a million troops return to civilian life, we’re going to have to work even harder because the skill, dedication and courage of our troops is unmatched. And when they come home we all benefit from their efforts to build a stronger America and a brighter future for our kids. So to all our veterans on behalf of the entire nation, thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do for our country. As your commander in chief I am proud of your service and grateful for your sacrifice. And as long as I’m president I will make it my mission to make sure that America has your back--not just on one day or one weekend, but 365 days per year.” A storm that feeds on vertical wind shear though is one developing over Central China. A sharp temperature contrast over the country today is fueling a strong fall storm through the early part of the coming week. Eastern China will feel the brunt of this at first with heavy rainfall and snow up to 10-15cm in the north east. South Korea will see rain showers on Monday but Tuesday lingering precip could shift over to Snow. By Monday late morning in to early afternoon Okinawa will see thunderstorm activity and rain showers as the cold front moves over the islands. And by Monday afternoon Tokyo will see foul weather. Another big factor of this storm will be the cold air it will be ushering in later on in the week. Many people in Japan and Korea will see their first below freezing temperatures of the season. If you have a boat the parades are fun and a great way to show off your decorating creativity. All of the parades offer prizes and in some cases cash prizes. There are generally parties after the parades which are a great place to meet new people and relax with your friends. Sometimes there are good adventures associated with the parades. One time at the Community Action Marin parade at the San Rafael Yacht Club we were heading up the canal and observed what appeared to be a huge unmarked dock in the middle of the parade route. It ended up that it was a barge participating in the parade that had lost all electrical power and was just a big dark looming object in the channel. Another time at the same parade we were riding on my friend’s extensively decorated and lit up classic Stephens Yacht and one whole side of the boat went dark. Several of us were scrambling around and talking about taking the generator apart to figure out what the problem was when a high school girl aboard held up a plug and asked what it was for. When she plugged it back in the lights came back on, voila. The collection of laws and restrictions that regulate people categorized as “sex offenders” has been punctuated by names such as Megan, Jessica and Adam. These are the names of children, all victims of heinous crimes that sparked high-profile campaigns aimed at creating “get tough on crime” legislation. Today you can go online to your state’s Megan’s Law website, where all convicted sex offenders are required to register, and probably find clusters of red dots on the map of your neighborhood, each dot representing an individual convicted of a sex crime. In California, approximately one of every 375 adults is a registered sex offender. While some states have considered adopting public registries for other crimes-domestic violence, drug dealing, murder--so far sex offenders comprise the only class of criminals who are deemed to warrant this special treatment, despite scant evidence that it is effective at reducing sexual assault. Registries are designed to protect children from “stranger danger,” a largely mythical threat belied by the fact that only three percent of sexual abuse and six percent of child murders are committed by strangers. It is now only a matter of weeks, or days perhaps, before Herman Wallace dies of the liver cancer that is ravaging his body. He will likely die in prison, at age 72, without proper medical treatment, after spending nearly four decades in a 6’ by 9’ cell. He was placed in solitary confinement after being convicted in January 1974 of killing a prison guard at Louisiana’s notorious Angola prison. Wallace is black. The guard was white, and so was each member of the southern jury that convicted him. The case against Wallace was pitifully weak when it was presented to that jury; some of the constitutional infirmities at trial were almost farcical. But over the years the courts of that state, along with Congress and the federal courts, have constructed a mighty wall protecting that jury’s verdict. Layer upon layer of procedural protections has been built around it so that today, as Wallace nears death, it is easy to see the vast gulf that exists here between law and justice. Dear Beneficiary, My name is Dr.Kingsley C. Moghalu, the deputy governor CBN. I was mandated by the President

I wish to inform you that all matters relating to the release of this payment is now under my control and supervision. A woman who has been employed by the McDonald’s Corporation for over 10 years says she was arrested last week after she confronted the company president at a meeting and told him she couldn’t afford to buy shoes or food for her children. Amidst poorly enforced credit regulation and high levels of financial illiteracy, millions are ensnared in debt traps, and with half the credit active population holding an impaired credit rating, many are forced to look to loan sharks. Aware of their customers’ desperate situations and often exploiting their illiteracy, local lenders “ known as mashonisas (Zulu for “one who buries you under”)” typically charge interest rates of 30-60%. While we have become accustomed, since the days of Joe McCarthy, to ideological witch hunts, it seems that Sartre and Camus served as test cases for the sort of thing that frequently plays out in overheated Congressional hearings and media denunciations: agents with furrowed brows and little philosophical training desperately trying to work out whether such and such abstruse academic is part of a grand conspiracy to undermine truth, justice, the American Way, etc.. Sartre

appeared early on the antiCommunist radar, though, ironically, he did so as a plant of sorts, brought over in 1945 by the Office of War Information as part of a group of journalists the United States’ government hoped would put out good propaganda. In November 2001, when the CIA assassinated al-Qaeda commander Mohammed Atef with a killer drone in Kandahar, Afghanistan, the U.S. held a virtual monopoly on the technology of lethal robots. Today, more than 70 countries in the world deploy drones, 16 of them the deadly variety, and many of those drones target rural people living on the margins of the modern world. Armed drones have been hailed as a technological breakthrough in the fight against terrorists who, in the words of President

Obama, “take refuge in remote tribal regions, hide in caves and walled compounds, train in empty deserts and rugged mountains.” But much of the butcher’s bill for the drones has fallen on people who live in those deserts and mountains, many of whom are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time or get swept into a definition of “terrorist” so broad it that embraces virtually all adult males. Houses with sturdy masonry walls and reinforced concrete roofs, looking like they could survive any tropical storm or hurricane, are sprouting up on the outskirts of this city in central Cuba, thanks to the development of local production of construction materials. People in this neighbourhood, which is fairly new, have been improving their little houses. We support the neighbours and workers of the area, who buy the materials, and we lend them the blockmaking machine, said Arcides Prez, the owner of a small block-making factory. We only charge them for the electricity used, he said. Operating on the outskirts of Ciego de vila, 434 km east of Havana, this noisy artisanal factory can produce up to 1,000 cement blocks a day when supplies are available. It also has three moulds to make different types of asbestos cement water tanks, all marked Arcides, C. de vila. Two cement mixers, wheelbarrows, spades and an electrically driven machine turning out two blocks a minute are operated by seven men, while two women work finishing the blocks and preparing the raw materials. The team offers transportation of the tanks and installs them on rooftops or as cisterns. To get raw materials, Prez and his group travel to cement factories in Sancti Spritus and Santiago de Cuba, 360 and 847 km east of Havana, respectively, to pick up discarded rubble that they then mix with cement bought in state stores to make their blocks and tanks. Housing construction is a priority in Cuba’s current economic reforms. Among the first changes was the sale of construction materials in national currency, diversification of supply and provision of credits and subsidies for low-income families. The authorities hope that within two years, 70 percent of the productive activity in the housing sector will be carried out by private actors, as they seek to revitalise a sector that has been centralised by the state for decades. In 2002, almost 2,000 protest-

cluding many Aboriginal residents of Taiwan’s Orchid Island and elementary and high school students staged a sit-in in front of the storage plant, calling on Taipower to remove nuclear waste from the island. They were also protesting against the government’s failure to keep its pledge to withdraw 100,000 barrels of low-level nuclear waste from their isle by the end of 2002.[1] In a bid to allay safety concerns, Taipower has pledged to repackage the waste since many of the iron barrels used for storage have become rusty from the island’s salty and humid air. Taipower has for years been exploring ways to ship the nuclear waste overseas for final storage, but plans to store the waste in an abandoned North Korean coal mine have met with strong protests from neighboring South Korea and Japan due to safety and environmental concerns, while storage in Russia or China is complicated by political factors. Taipower is “trying to convince the islanders to extend the storage arrangement for another nine years in exchange for payment of NT$200 million (about $5.7 million)”. Break up the meat with a fork and scatter the garlic, onion and dry seasonings over it, then mix them into the meat with a fork or your fingers. Let the bowl of meat sit out of the icebox for ten or fifteen minutes while you set the table and make the salad. After guards tortured fellow prisoner Isaac Sanchez in the torture chair overnight and threatened several Dallas 6 members with death, inmates Andre Jacobs, Carrington Keys, Duane Peter, Derrick Stanley, Anthony Locke and Anthony Kelly decided that they did not want to suffer anymore. Covering their cell door windows with bedding, the prisoners demanded that the abuse stop, and requested access to their counselors, state police, the District Attorney and the Public Defenders Office. They had no access to telephones or computers and their incoming and outgoing mail were being destroyed to undermine their ability to expose the corruption. Rather than investigate or attempt to resolve the issues which occurred for over a year prior

to April 29, 2010, prison officials staged an armed assault against the unarmed men, who were all locked inside of their individual cells, viciously attacking them with electro-shock shields, tazers, fists, and pepper-spray. While all of the guards involved in the incident admitted that they did not suffer any injuries, members of the Dallas 6 were left bloody, naked, with burnt skin, and in pain. Hundreds of Palestinian protesters set sail from Gaza on Monday in protest of the ongoing Israeli naval blockade that prevents fishing, trade, and freedom of movement for Palestinians living inside the resourcestrapped territory. Protesters say the blockade -- which restricts Gazans from traveling more than six miles from shore -- stifles the local fishing industry and adds to the food crisis and resource shortage in Gaza which stems from the Israeli-imposed blockade and militarization of Gaza’s borders. The movie is based on the true story of a group of celeb-obsessed teenagers who went on a crime-spree in the Hollywood Hills. The gang tracked their favorite celebrities online, learning their schedules and addresses, and then proceeded to steal more than 3 million dollars in luxury goods from the homes Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson, and others earning them the nickname, “The Bling Ring.” An old gentleman lived alone in New Jersey. He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament: Dear Vincent, I am feel ing pretty sad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato g arden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Papa, Don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Papa , Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you, Vinnie Financialization, militarization, and criminalization - forces that exacerbate the huge array of problems we face-poverty, unemployment, mass incarceration, climate destruction, gun violence, financial corruption, spying and privacy, and much more. They threaten democracy, fray our social order, worsen conditions in communities round the world, and damage our psychological health. As a result, many of us are alarmed at the direction of our country, and rightly so. By many measures, our society is a depressing mess. Tens of millions are severely suffering economically, while many more are stressed out and traumatized, desperately attempting to cope with both chronic and acute problems they have never faced before. Parking was very easy and close to the beach...$2/hour. Some shade available if you get there early. A few picnic tables available, again, if you get there early. Beach was clean, sand was white, sun was warm and bright. No waves, most shells had algae & mud stains, White sand only on beach. Once you get in water, it is very silty/muddy. We enjoyed relaxing here and would go back. Antonio Mesngon, Jr. of Rota landed a 9.19-lb black jack to top the Biggest Category in the 2013 Rota Cliff Fishing Derby held on June 13-14, 2013. Thirty-six fishermen from Guam and Rota joined this month’s derby, an annual signature event of the Northern Mariana Islands organized by the Marianas Visitors Authority and the municipality of Rota. Governments always claim security as their justification for civil liberties abuses, but that over whelmingly the security in question is that of the state ... from its own population. America’s drone campaign abroad is a far bigger threat to our security than leaked information about surveillance. Iodine-131 can be ingested into the thyroid, where it emits beta particles (electrons) that damage tissue. In developing youngsters, it can stunt both physical and mental growth. Among adults it causes a very wide range of ancillary ailments, including cancer. Cesium-137 from Fukushima

has been found in fish caught as far away as California. It spreads throughout the body, but tends to accumulate in the muscles. Strontium-90’s half-life is around 29 years. It mimics calcium and goes to our bones. That these are among the isotopes being dumped into the Pacific is the worst news to come from Japan since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, whose bombings occurred 68 years ago this week, and whose fallout has been vastly exceeded at Fukushima. Indeed, Japanese experts have already estimated Fukushima’s fallout at 20-30 times as high as the 1945 bombings. The U.S. government is dead serious about climate change, but not in the way you might think. While carbon taxes and green grids remain decidedly out of reach on Capitol Hill, planners at the Pentagon have been quietly preparing to take charge of a planet shaken by climate chaos. Predicting ever more extreme weather, famine, and social collapse around the globe, high-level experts like former CIA director James Woolsey and former U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gordon Sullivan outline a chilling vision of endemic violence and “militarized adaptation” to disaster. As hunger and disease turn to conflict in the Global South, planners inside and outside the Pentagon are preparing to shut borders, control population movements, and intensify U.S. intervention abroad. “We’re lucky he was far enough away he was a bad shot,” says one witness who escaped being shot. Drones are heating up the territorial dispute between China and Japan over the Senkaku Islands. At the same time, China is expanding research and production of their own drones and Japan is considering political and military reforms. These developments could bring about a major shift in the regional strategic dynamic. Many veterans suffer debilitating chronic problems. Mea sur ing just under 200 meters (about 656 feet), the twin towers of the European Central Bank’s (ECB) new headquarters in Frankfurt can be seen from the city limits. From these lofty heights, Europe’s financial experts will watch over the EU’s common currency when the building is completed a year from now. Together with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), they will oversee the efforts of Southern Europe’s crisis-battered states to stick with their austerity schemes. And for that reason, the towers in the city’s east end are also expected to become the new center of a storm of protest. The first demonstration is already scheduled for the day of the official opening, and on Sunday (24.11.2013), representatives of the Blockupy movement will plan for that event. Botswana’s Bushmen have lived on their ancestral lands since time immemorial. Ever since vast diamond deposits were discovered in the reserve, the tribe has been ruthlessly and relentlessly persecuted by their government -- evicted from their homes and forced to live in grim resettlement camps, denied water, intimidated, arrested and even tortured for subsistence hunting. Now it seems not just diamonds, but gas, is behind attempts to kick them off

their land. Harassment is a daily occurrence: in a rule eerily similar to the hated Pass Laws of apartheid South Africa, the Bushmen are being forced to apply for temporary permits to visit their families. “Overstay” and they risk being arrested. And their British lawyer has been barred from the country. As one of the featured artists in UNTITLED PROJECTS, Camilo Restrepo created an installation consisting of two in-process drawings and an elaborate system of steam-emitting tubes connected to a pressure cooker. During the run of UNTITLED, Restrepo will use steam to melt away the top layer of the drawings. In so doing, a hidden layer of imagery will be revealed that depicts, like a map, the interconnected and complicated network of Colombian narco-players. generations more will die or live poor butchered half-lives if you fail to act. Garrett, who worked as an overnight stocker, explained to his supervisor that he was striking to protest unfair labor practices and that it was illegal to fire him for participating. “We don’t recognize strikers,” his supervisor told him. Among the six people from his store who struck, two were fired and the other four were given warnings. (Accumulate three warnings and you’re out. “Like b a s e b a l l ,” Garrett explained.) The expert stressed that corr uption was the reason why all government owned depots and storage facilities have all been destroyed while those belonging to the private sector are very functional with one man owning about 40 per cent of storage facilities used in the industry. I have an important reasons to request your interest for a Serious Relationship, i will be happy if you can contact me back, so that i can easily explain to you more about me and also send you my picture because I have something very Important to tell you. Your New Friend Miss Ciara Albert Woodfox and Herman Wallace were both convicted of the 1972 murder of prison guard, Brent Miller. There was no physical evidence to link them to the crime and their convictions relied primarily on the dubious testimony of a sole eyewitness who received favourable treatment in return for his testimony. Both men have robustly denied any involvement in the crime. They believe they were falsely implicated in the murder because of their political activism in prison as members of the Black Panther Party. Earlier this year a federal judge overturned the conviction. However Albert Woodfox continues to languish in prison after the state of Louisiana appealed against his release. Although the 2013 SNAP (food stamp) budget of $78 billion isless than the 2012 investment earnings of 20 wealthy Americans, SNAP is being cut while not a penny extra is taken from the multi-billionaires. The children, who make up nearly half of the 48 million recipients, will now get $1.40 for a meal instead of $1.50. Freedom has become one of those politically charged terms that means whatever people need it to mean. There is no coherent conception of freedom, though, in which it only exists at the pleasure of the U.S. military. It’s simply a non sequitur. The “freedoms” most Americans think of when they hear the term are enshrined in constitutional and statutory law. They are in no way dependent on the size, scope or even the existence of the U.S. military. BOQUILLAS, Coahuila, Mexico A formal border crossing opened a few weeks ago along the Texas-Mexico border. Fast-food workers in New York City are expected to walk off their jobs Thursday, one year after their first strike, joining a 100-city strike wave. Organizers say actions will take place all across the country as part of the movement for $15 an hour and the right to form a union without retaliation. Biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic farming originally developed by Rudolf Steiner that employs what proponents describe as “a holistic understanding of agricultural processes”. One of the first sustainable agriculture movements, it treats soil fertility, plant growth,

and livestock care as ecologically interrelated tasks, emphasizing spiritual and mystical perspectives. Proponents of biodynamic agriculture, including Steiner, have characterized it as “spiritual science” as part of the larger anthroposophy movement. Biodynamics has much in common with other organic approaches it emphasizes the use of manures and composts and excludes the use of artificial chemicals on soil and plants. Methods unique to the biodynamic approach include its treatment of animals, crops, and soil as a single system; an emphasis from its beginnings on local production and distribution systems; its use of traditional and development of new local breeds and varieties; and the use of an astrological sowing and planting calendar. Biodynamic agriculture uses various herbal and mineral additives for compost additives and field sprays; these are sometimes prepared by controversial methods, such as burying ground quartz stuffed into the horn of a cow, which are said to harvest “cosmic forces in the soil”, that are more akin to sympathetic magic than agronomy. For 60 Years US Has Tortured Iranian People -- the Latest Agreement Just Temporarily Halts the Punishment “There are in fact two rogue states operating in the region, resorting to aggression and terror and violating international law at will: the United States and its Israeli client.” Houses with sturdy masonry walls and reinforced concrete roofs, looking like they could survive any tropical storm or hurricane, are sprouting up on the outskirts of this city in central Cuba, thanks to the development of local production of construction materials. People in this neighbourhood, which is fairly new, have been improving their little houses. We support the neighbours and workers of the area, who buy the materials, and we lend them the block-making machine, said Arcides Prez, the owner of a small block-making factory. Housing construction is a priority in Cubas current economic reforms. In 2002, almost 2,000 protesters, including many Aboriginal residents of Taiwan’s Orchid Island and elementary and high school students staged a sit-in in front of the storage plant, calling on Taipower to remove nuclear waste from the island. Taipower is “trying to convince the

islanders to extend the storage arrangement for another nine years in exchange for payment of NT$200 million (about $5.7 million)”. Tracheliastes polycolpus is a parasitic copepod that live on freshwater fish and do so by attaching to the fins of their host, grazing on mucus and epithelial cells. While T. polycolpus can infect handful of different freshwater fishes, it is primarily found on the beaked dace (Leuciscus burdigalensis). When they occur in large numbers, their feeding activities can severely erode the fins of their hosts, so much that in some fish the fins gnawed down to mere nubs. All museums benefit from the application of science in some way. Modern and contemporary art poses specific challenges for two different reasons: the media the artists can draw from is more varied than any other period in history and the works are all young in age. These aspects can make a conservator’s job easy or extremely difficult. They can also help improve our understanding of how works by Old Masters may have changed. Since conservators of contemporary art are often the first to treat an object it is particularly important treatments are always carefully considered and well informed and science can play a major role in that regard. Gentlemen: Has there been any indication from your readers of the scarcitty of butterflies this year? In this area which is usually quite prolific, I have seen practically none with the exception of a few flights of Fritillaries. Since March I have seen but one example of an Apantesis virgo, no Catocala caras at all, veryfew Swallowtails, one Queloia, no Peacock’s Eyes, no Hipposcatics, and not even a sinclge Red Admiral in my garden, which last summer was teeming with butterflies. I wonder if this scarcity is widespread, and if so, what is the cause of it? M. Wasbourn We stand helpless before the corporate onslaught. There is no way to vote against corporate power. The assault happened after an altercation with a man on the street, according to witnesses. Now, Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said the State has decided against filing criminal charges against Sgt. Eliezer

Pabon, who assaulted the handcuffed 14-year-old. [INS: :INS] Payne had been placed under arrest even though he was bleeding critically. EMT paramedics finally arrived and found a boy near death and “nonchalant” officers, who did not seem concerned about the condition of the young boy, according to witnesses on the scene. Payne’s clothes were soaked in blood and yet in spite of his critical conditions, officers had made sure to cuff him, with his hands cuffed behind his back. “He looked like a young man who was facing down his own mortality,” one city employee said in assessing the situation. “This is a kid who was staring at his own doom. He looked like he was going to die. And if he didn’t get help when he did, he would have.” If you have had it with the NYPD’s unconstitutional and racist “Stop and Frisk” policy, and their sheer brutality, SPREAD THE WORD to raise awareness about this police abuse, which has - so far - gone completely unpunished. “There is scarce a king in a hundred who would not, if he could, follow the example of Pharaoh, get first all the peoples money, then all their lands, and then make them and their children servants for ever” Benjamin Franklin More Americans living outside the U.S. gave up their citizenship in the first quarter of 2015 than ever before, according to data released Thursday by the IRS. The 1,335 expatriations topped the previous record by 18 percent, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Those Americans are driven to turn in their passports in part because of laws that have expanded bank reporting and tax compliance requirements for expatriates. The increase in early 2015 follows an annual record in 2014, when 3,415 Americans gave up their citizenship. An estimated 6 million U.S. citizens are living abroad, and the U.S. is the only country within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that taxes citizens wherever they reside. In many cases, those choosing to give up their citizenship have limited connections to the U.S. and have lived outside of the country for most of their lives. Anyone born in the U.S. automatically receives citizenship, and people born abroad to U.S. parents are typically citizens as well. For some the decision is easy, because they perceive little benefit from holding U.S. citizenship. The man, who friends identified as “Dizzle,” was shot and killed by police officers outside a bar near the neighborhood’s boardwalk. Police officers had responded to a call saying a homeless individual with a dog was harassing customers. Dizzle, a black man in his early 20s, was fatally shot as officers attempted to detain him. New technology is allowing officers to detect movement even through solid walls. The most disturbing thing about this technology is that it requires no warrant for officers to spy on you in the privacy of your own home. Your message to the mediamentor group was not approved. Rumor: Video clip shows a man being struck by lightning twice within a minute -- and surviving. Scam: That $200 Home Depot coupon Facebook giveaway will cost you a lot more than $200 if you try to claim your coupon. Even today, 45 years later, a culture of impunity persists. We read the news and see law enforcement killing young African Americans across the country. Those of us who witnessed Kent State have to ask whether things might have been different if this era of brutal suppression of political protest had resulted in accountability. I see echoes of Kent State when I read that Mike Brown’s family has to file a civil lawsuit because there will be no criminal accountability for his killing. This is the legacy of past impunity and it saddens me greatly to see it continue. There is an important legal distinction to be made as we pursue accountability for the killings. Because the statute of limitations for civil rights expires quickly, survivors and stakeholders have a time limit in seeking justice when our loved ones are murdered by US law enforcement and the US government.Fatal beatings and shootings of African American and Latino citizens, mainly men, by the police have continued seemingly unabated, with the latest being the widely publicised case of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Maryland. Gray, 25, died Apr. 19 of spinal cord injuries in what has been ruled a homicide after being arrested for allegedly car-

rying an illegal pocket knife. Six officers have since been charged in his murder. “As the U.S. claims a human rights mantle and criticises others for racism, it becomes the world’s greatest hypocrite.”The Canadian Building Trades Monument will celebrate the valuable contributions of tradespeople to Canadian life, prosperity and history, including recognition of the participation of women, First Nations and new immigrants in the building of Canada. The monument will be a place to celebrate the great achievements of skilled stonemasons, welders, carpenters, ironworkers, and many other construction workers, yet one that also commemorates the losses they have endured in carrying out their work. This is a unique Canadian opportunity to study with one of the masters of contemporary f ig urative painting, Vincent Desiderio. Represented by the influential Marlborough Gallery and a senior critic at both the Philadelphia and New York Academies of Art, Vincent has deeply influenced multiple artists in America and internationally. This is a chance to study with an artist who makes a compelling argument for figuration in contemporary painting as relevant and essential to our survival as thinking artists. Part technical figure workshop, part polemic on how artists must immerse themselves in thought and culture, a weekend of study with Desiderio can aid artists seeking to realize the profound potential in their art. The sun is out again. Warm but not hot, about 20 degrees Celsius. Muesli with banana and goat milk. Tea. Financial remittances sent back home by Mexicans working in other countries, already breaking records this year, will rise considerably in May, as they always do. That’s because of Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 10.About 6 years ago I was walking along the coast down near Masuda and while passing through the fishing village of Tsuda spied this wonderful sculpture of an elephant sitting in someones garage. Obviously made from wood and rope that had drifted up on the nearby beach. A few weeks ago I was walking the same section of coast so I was wondering if the man who had made it had done any more. NAACP Protests Momentum is building for an exciting new idea, one which is in fact far older than many people realize: free higher education in the United States. The cost of educating oneself to participate fully in society is one which our revolutionary forebears understood should be borne by everyone. In John Adams‚‘ day, that meant an elementary and high school educa-

tion. Today, for many people, higher education is equally essential. The cost of that education is not an individual or charitable obligation. It is a social one. The real question to ask is if you really want to give up the chance to have some kind of heatlh care. I often tell people that their family want to see them healthy rather than ill - even if it means lower inheritances, etc. It is certainly something that I would tell my family - although quite frankly I don’t have a lot of assets.. We have an opportunity now to provide health care to a wide range of people that often had to be told to wait for their name to come up on a list or even worse yet who were told that despite their relatively low income, they still didn’t qualify for some kind of assistance. Our society has deter-

mined that it won’t provide some health care “for free.” Maybe one of these days that will change, but in the meantime, it has at least determined that no one should have to go without health care. That is a huge step in and of itself. The degree of surveillance will simply escalate along with the technology -- what’s unjust is the access to the information: the proverbial level-playingfield was the one big “underlying” promise of the Internet... We all should be able to learn where the rogue-cops, corrupt CEOs, gangsters, embedded politicos live, what they buy, how much they’re paid and by-whom, etc. Years ago I remember a story about a small town in France(?) that mounted accessible-web-cams in most public areas (including police stations) so that any citizen at any time could monitor and report on transgressions to the common-good, with the result that police were hardly needed as there was little crime and the community felt much safer/responsible. Presidential candidates in both parties have used them, although they were best-known for championing Republican presidential candidates in 2012 and that is true again as the 2016 race takes shape. The top donors feature names that are either already familiar. Major liberal givers include Steyer ($73 million) and George Soros ($3.8 million). For the conservatives, the Koch Brothers ($5.2 million) and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson ($5.8 million) make prominent appearances, as does Long Island hedge fund investor Robert Mercer ($9.5 million); Hedge fund investor Paul Singer gave $11 million; David Koch independently accounted for another $3 million. Then there’s Michael Bloomberg ($28 million). Genetically engineered crops, or GMOs, have led to an explosion in growers’ use of herbicides, with the result that children at hundreds of elementary schools across the country go to class close by fields that are regularly doused with escalating amounts of toxic weed killers. GMO corn and soybeans have been genetically engineered to withstand being blasted with glyphosate - an herbicide that the World Health Organization recently classified as “probably carcinogenic to humans.” The proximity of many schools to fields blanketed in the chemical puts kids at risk of exposure. Two weeks ago, a housing authority officer was called to the John DeShields Homes, where he encountered a 20-year-old man running within the vicinity of a robbery. Arthur Sargeant, 48 allegedly shot the man in the back, and although the suspect was taken

hospital, he was never arrested or charged with a crime. In this area of St. Louis, the neighborhoods are patrolled by agents who are still hired by the state, but are under an entirely different jurisdiction than the official police department. On paper, they are nothing more than security guards, but in these communities they act as police, indiscriminately invading people’s privacy and arresting people for nonviolent crimes with no victims. However, St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly said that he will be charged to the same extent that an average citizen would. This week, 49-year-old Arthur Sargeant of the St. Louis Police Department was charged with driving under the influence of cocaine, and one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. A state police investigation revealed that he may have been high when she shot a man in the back during a burglary investigation. “For more than seven years, the government has collected the phone records of every American under Section 215 of the Patriot Act, without ever having the justify the program’s legality in a public and adversarial court hearing,” Brett Max Kaufman, a legal fellow with the ACLU National Security Project, wrote for the ACLU blog after the lawsuit was filed on Nov. 2013. The ruling issued by the court says that a provision of the USA Patriot Act permitting “the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to collect business records deemed relevant to a counter terrorism investigation cannot be legitimately interpreted to permit the systematic bulk collection of domestic calling records.” Let’s know about Section 215 of the Patriot Act: Section 215 of the Patriot Act legally authorizes the law enforcement to collect “any tangible things” that the government proves are linked or connected to an investigation into any suspected terrorist. However, the latest verdict by U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals now ruled that the mass collection of telephone metadata program run by the NSA - Not Authorized by Section 215 of the Patriot Act. Section 215 “cannot bear the weight the government asks us to assign to it, and that it does not authorize the telephone metadata program,” writes Judge Gerard E. Lynch. “Such expansive development of government repositories of formerly private records would be an unprecedented contraction of the privacy expectations of all Americans.” Good Day, I am Nathan L. Arenson For: Steve Tran Foundation The World Health Organization declared Liberia free of Ebola on Saturday, making it the first of the three hardest-hit West African countries to bring a formal end to the epidemic. The outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Liberia is over, the W.H.O. said in a statement read by Dr. Alex Ntale Gasasira, the W.H.O.s representative to Liberia, in a packed conference room at the emergency command center in Monrovia, the capital. Just prior to Dr. Gasasiras statement, Luke Bawo, an epidemiologist, showed a map depicting all of Liberia in green with the number 42 superimposed on it. This represented that two maximum incubation periods of the virus, a total of 42 days, had passed since the safe burial of the last person confirmed to have had Ebola in the country, fulfilling the official criteria for concluding that humanto-human transmission of the virus has ended. According to the W.H.O., there were more than 3,000 confirmed Ebola cases in Liberia, and a further 7,400 suspected or probable cases, with more than 4,700 deaths estimated to have occurred since the outbreak was declared there in March of 2014. Among the dead were 189 health care workers. The first nettime message was sent on 31 May 1995,[1] almost twenty years ago. A lot has happened since then, and we’re proud of how well this list, and the larger nettime ‘neighborhood,’ has traced many of these epochal changes. The list’s alumni/ae is a who’s who of critical culture across an incredible range of fields. They -- really, *you* -- have helped to redefine activism, shape national and international legal and economic reforms, lead international cultural festivals and some of the world’s most famous musems, produce astonishing works of art, write fiction and nonfiction that’s won awards and redefined entire disciplines, and build crucial free and open-source software, to name just a few things. And those are just the ‘heroic’ stories. There are many more obscure ones that, if anything, are even more impressive, as even a quick glance at nettime’s Wikipedia entry will show.[2] A few nettimers have passed away, and we miss them dearly, still. Moreover, most like-minded projects of a similar age have either vanished or, alternatively, have succeeded by forsaking their alternative status for the discursive bonds of institutional security. Nettime stands alone as a deliberately, even radically independent project. Its migration over the years -- in-berlin.de, desk.nl, material.net, thing.net, waag.nl, and now kein.org and bitnik.org -- tells just one part of that story. But if times have changed, Nettime has not. At a time when an email address as such is becoming a generational marker (for many younger people it’s little more than a tool of the man), the very idea of a mailing list is itself an anachronism. It’s slow -- sometimes slower than a mailed letter would be, at this point. It takes time to read and write. And there’s no images, no video, no memes, no numbers, stats or ranks, no friends or followers -- in short, there’s not much to like about it. ‘Tactical’ media has gone viral -- it’s mainly absorbed in its own anthologies - while ‘viral’ media have become a cliche for marketers and other assorted bottom-feeders. Nettime is still devoted to criticism of the net, in a way. But how could that matter when it’s debatable whether ‘the net’ even exists anymore? Hasn’t every-

one else moved on to the post-digital? ‘Posttime,’ anyone? In this and many other ways, nettime has been ‘graying.’ It’s wedded to a particular Euro-American moment, the so-called summer of the Internet, which has since turned to winter. Nettime’s once-radical embrace of the ex-East -- or, if you like, of the ex-West -- barely extends to Hungary now, and has nothing to say to the decisive conflicts around Russia’s borders, obviously (but not only) in Ukraine. Its early tacit prohibition on ritualizeddebates about Israel and Palestine has grown into a complete failure to address the profoundly important dynamics across parts of the world conventionally -- and reductively -- called ‘Muslim’ or ‘Arab.’ These areas are too often consigned to the ‘timelessness’ of conflict, but there’s every reason to believe that their liberatory struggles could ultimately define the future of the ‘WEIRD’ nations. China? Barely a peep about it. Africa? Nettime is nowheresville. The seas, the skies, the circulatory flows? Nada. And how about nongeographical ‘areas’ where the most moving cultural changes are happening -- in the flowerings of new forms of subjectivity around the world and the new forms of sovereignty they’re giving rise to. Silence. But, really, who cares what a bunch of straight white cis guys -which is 95% of the list’s traffic -- think about those things? Really. We briefly hoped that we might begin to address these questions and more with a twentieth-anniverasary conference in Bucharest. Not a ‘revival tour’ of nettime’s ageing heroes but, instead, some broader kind of gathering around newer, open questions. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out. Nettime is not mobile and there is no app for that. After considering these and other options, and trying to imagine how we could ‘upgrade’ nettime’s creaky infrastructure so that it’d at least have a chance, we’ve reluctantly come to the conclusion that it would be better to make a graceful exit. So we’ve decided to fold up shop on 30 May, the day before the list would turn twenty. Nettime has a troubled history when it comes to unsubscribing people -plus, since we’re stuck in 1995 and *none* of this this is automated -so we’re asking that each of you to pitch in by unsubscribing yourself before that date. You can find the link to do so here: Personally, we -Ted Byfield and Felix Stalder -would like to say that it’s been a pleasure and an honor to moderate the list for the last seventeenodd years. It wasn’t in use yet except as a backup but because file systems were NFS mounted from it, anytime a customer used something that referenced those file systems such as ‘df ’ or ‘quota’, the process hung waiting for it to respond eventually cluttering up memory on shellx. To stop this, I had to unmount the file systems from that machine but I needed to reboot the file server which has users home d i re c tor ie s on it in order to do that. I should have used the force option because otherwise the reboot also is going to wait for the machine that is dead to respond and I forgot to do that. The whole mess necessitated a trip to the co-location facility to restore, and while I was there I fixed some startup script errors and applied some updates which required a few more reboots to apply and test. On another note, if anyone is considering content management systems like Drupal, Concrete5, Joomla, or WordPress, they will all run fine on our platform. If you need help getting them running please e-mail support and I’ll be glad to help you get them setup. A forensic examination of two external drives located in the crawl space above Miller’s bathroom revealed the presence of several thousand images and more than 1,100 videos of child pornography. The images dated back to 2002. The children in the videos ranged in age from toddler to teenager. The file paths of some of the images indicated that they were originally downloaded via a peer-to-peer file sharing network. Images and videos of child pornography were also located on a laptop computer seized from the basement of the residence. Additional images of child pornography were recovered from several CDs seized from the storage facility rented by

Braving heavy rains, roughly one thousand Hawaiians traveled to the town of Hale`iwa on the North Shore of Oahu Sunday to take part in a march against Monsanto, adding their support to the growing “tsunami” against genetically modified (GM) crops. The Aloha Aina (or “Love of the Land”) March, organized by a number of environmental and community groups, was called to celebrate some regional successes against the biotech industry and to raise awareness of the fight, calling on Hawaiian landowners to join the movement and “evict Monsanto.” Arctic air has settled into the northern U.S. along with gusty winds and snow showers. The result will be bitter cold and dangerous wind chills for parts of the Plains and Midwest. Wind chill values are forecast to be 20-40 degrees below zero in this region where Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories are in effect. Snow showers will accompany the cold temperatures. Good day Friend, I am pleased to get across to you for a very urgent and profitable business proposal, I got your e-mail address in Internet while browsing after I decided to contact you and ask for your assistance in this urgent matter, requiring trust and confidentiality. I am Mr. Ahmed Al Sultan, the B r a n c h m a n a g e r, National Bank of Abu Dhabi Al A i n B r a nc h , A l Ain BranchAli Ibn Abi Talib St, Near Oud Al Tawba Roundabout,(UNITED ARABEMIRATES), Married with Five children. I am writing this letter to ask for your support and co-operation to carry out this business opportunity in my department, On June 6, 1999, an America Oil consultant/contractor with Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Thomas Stone, made a numbered time (fixed) deposit for twelve calendar months, Valued at US$12,000,000.00 (Twelve Million United State Dollars in my branch upon maturity. I sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract employers, the Petroleum Corporation that Mr. Thomas Stone, died in the plane crash On October 31, 1999, (an Egyptian Boeing 767 Flight 990) with other passengers on board. Most asttorning of my discovery was that, all records bear no next of kin, meaning no member of Mr. Thomas Stone, family knows about the deposit therefore, no member of his family will ever come forward to claim the money, In order for the bank not to transfer the said sum of

Twelve Million United State Dollars ($12,000,000.00) as unclaimed funds to the emirates treasury account, the above stated funds most be claimed immediately by somebody standing in as late Mr. Thomas Stone. First there was surprise, then shock, then anger. By nightfall thousands across India had taken to the streets in spontaneous protests against an unexpected supreme court decision on Wednesday reversing a judgment that had decriminalised gay sex in the country. Activists had expected the court simply to rubber-stamp the original 2009 ruling. Now India will rejoin the more than 70 countries -- mainly in Africa, the Middle East and south Asia -- where homosexual relations are illegal. The reinstatement of a 153-year-old law passed under British rule and based on 16th-century English legislation means “carnal intercourse” between consenting adults of the same sex is once more defined as “unnatural” and punishable by up to 10 years in jail. Waving multicoloured flags and wearing black bandanas, the crowd of protesters that gathered at the Jantar Mantar, a favourite point for demonstrations in the Indian capital, Delhi, was full of young men and women. Some think of neurons firing as digital information, with the potential for firing as analog information. The potential, itself, can be considered as a sequence of digital events. The process could be likened to a bicycle pump pumping up a balloon until it bursts! Each compression of the pump and the subsequent burst can be considered a digital event! She patted her frock lock. O wayward! Her feet bicycled the air. Her feet occasioned a somatic event, a stolen bicycle and its somatic response. With the new guns, he fires away. Perfect trajectories are in Pusan, dust. Policeman Dick is riding by, a bicycle beauty, the body leaning into the dust. Somatic!. Two bicycle wheels hold the frame up. Earlier he said to her, “Someone always gets hurt in a stickup.” “You like it,” Gibbs said, the thing works like a bicycle, keeps going round arcs towards the curb, beneath the trees where girls are dangerous. He walked home. Someday he’ll have a bicycle. It is easiest to ride in the dark. There are not many animals left here, a few snakes and you can avoid them by leaning. “The frame’s held up by the wheels,” said Policeman Dick. He patted her frock lock. O wayward! Her feet bicycled the air. Her feet lifted him on the frame and the rest of her fucked him. She said, “Someone always gets hurt in a stickup. You like it.” She said that it worked like a charm, she kept going everywhere, just like a child. “What a wonderful adventure I’m having!” she said, “ just like a little girl!” She walked home thinking someday she’d have a bicycle. It’s easy to ride, even in the dark and the animals are terrific! The grey wool suit that Gene Kelly wore in 1952 in the centerpiece number of the beloved MGM Hollywood musical “Singin’ in the Rain” arguably one of the most famous musical numbers in all film history realized more than $106,250 as part of Heritage Auctions Entertainment & Music event on Thursday, more than five times the pre-auction estimate. “This is such a wonderful and historically important costume,” said Margaret Barrett, Director of Entertainment & Music Auctions at Heritage. “Collectors and fans recognized that, and they came after it accordingly. It’s a treasure of Hollywood history and of our American popular culture.” The suit was purchased by Planet Hollywood International, which plans to display the suit at one of its properties, though

Night Market: A bustling tent market just south east of intersetion of Yan’an Road / Pinghai Road (past Huansha Rd, along Renhe Rd) every night. Here you can find clothing of various (and interesting) Chinese designs, Mao memorabilia, jewelery, paper fans, pipes, lighters, eletronic accessories, luggage, handicrafts and other items that most Chinese cities have. Pirated DVDs and counterfeit handbags are for sale as well. You can also find a lot of those silkscreen printed paintings/embroidery things that the silk market also has. Bargain very hard; many stalls sell the same merchandise, so be prepared to walk away (although this traveler found it almost impossible to get cheaper prices). Be careful buying “antiques” because they are probably new, and pearls. Often the pearl culturing process has been very short, and in fact the “pearl” is a plastic marble with only the thinnest of cultured skin. In the past year, supporters of immigration rights have expressed growing frustration with the president, who has overseen the deportation of nearly 2 million immigrants during his time in office, far more than any other president in history. With a deeply divided Congress now nearing its holiday recess, it seems nearly certain that another year will pass with lawmakers failing to make any headway on immigration reform. Eight demonstrators tied themselves to one another wrist-to-wrist in the falling snow Tuesday morning, and lay down across the road in a human chain, blocking access to an immigration detention center in Elizabeth, N.J. Detention officers on their way to work waited in a line of cars stretching down the street. For nearly a minute, the steady blast of a car horn drowned out the sound of the protesters’ chants. By the time the police arrested the protesters about a half-hour later, snow had begun to pile up on their bodies, hiding the slogans on the T-shirts they had pulled on over their sweaters. Sent from my iPhone For now though Japan is already seeing foul weather with winds up to 115 kph reported in Hokkaido today and 65cm of snow accumalation in parts of the Tohoku region. The good news is the larger population of Japan on the Pacific coastline is missing out on the bulk of this heavy snowfall. The snow will also start to taper off in Japan through monday morning caused by a change in the winds which will be shutting off the sea effect snow machine along the Sea of Japan coastline. This change in winds though is a pre-cursor to the next storm to come out of southern China which has already been bringing heavy rainfall to region. Even in Hong Kong showers and isolated thunderstorms have been re-

ported today. This moisture inflow across the city and in to southern china is combining with cool air to the north and a deep upper level trough from the west to produce the potent storm we will be seeing through the first half of the coming work week. China and Taiwan will continue to see showers through much of Monday as the storm develops and heads east. My name is MR.RAYMOND CHUKWUEUGO MGBEOKWERE, HEAD, LEGAL SERVICES with First Bank of Nigerian Plc based in Nigeria. I am writing in respect of a foreign customer of our Financial Firm with Deposit Code: XXMD9 0 8 -14 -2 55 114 whose name is Eng. Ahmed Mohd Elshami, an Egyptian citizen and a Federal Contractor with the Federal Governments of Nigeria and Egypt. My client lost his life along with his wife, daughter and several others in a tragic air accident in Abuja - Nigeria. Since the death of this customer, I personally have watched with keen interest to see the next of kin but all has proved abortive as no one has come to claim his funds of US$25,500,000.00 (Twenty Five Million, Five Hundred Thousand US Dollars) which has been with our branch for a very long time. On this note, I decided to seek for whom his name shall be used as the Next of Kin as no one has come up as his next of kin. In view of this I got your contact through a trade journal on my quest for a foreign business partner, who will be presented to the financial firm as the next of kin to the deceased client to enable them release the fund in your favour. When you receive this letter, kindly send me an email for more explanation, please include your private Tel/Fax numbers in your correspondence to facilitate communication.

The idea of “Toxicity”, theoretically and practically, entrenches itself into the standard phenomenological understanding of the co-constitution of society and technology. The cultural deciphering of toxicity reconstructs not only the current environmental situation, but also socio-political contexts by looking into modes of contemporary cultural and technological production, the extraction of minerals, toxic waste, local and international policies, economy, finances, community-based responses and the thematics of production, consumption and disposal. The project considers the changes that Toxicity causes in the cultural, sociopolitical, psychological (in the sense of Guattari’s Planetary Psychopathology) and ecological landscape relating to art and technology by looking

into Info-Pathologies and the methods and manners of the “infiltration” of technologies into facets of ordinary life, thereby challenging the inherited taxonomies. “Toxicity” also connects to biopolitical conflicts in the real and virtual worlds involving: energy control and the choice of fuel material and alternative energy sources; the thematic of entropy; the inheritance and programmability of life; the causes and consequences of environmental changes; the question of env i ronmenta l sustainability; micro and macro ecology; GM products, life, death and appearance. The dualities of power and right, sovereignty and law, are inextricably bound to contemporary biopolitical discourses. In Foucault’s own words: “For capitalist society it is the biological that is important before everything else; the biological, the somatic, the corporeal. The body is a biopolitical reality, medicine is a biopolitical strategy.” I Spent an hour today unsuccessfully trying to find a transformer for an electronic gadget and then checked my BP: 186! (I think I told you that I’m considering the beginnings of a move to Mexico: now considering Punta Zicatela (but it may be too international: surfers -- certainly cheap: a really nice apar tment with kitchen, pool, rooftop views for $300 if I stay for 6 months -- but the BP medications and my general health?, would be a concern and now I’d have to worry about fresh assaults here in my absence... but maybe “getting away” would help (I’d have to bring my BP testing kit:)) I’ve mostly been “under-attack” most of my life but these last few years under our fascist new landlord and terrorist hospital have been the worst; so I probably assume that someone will inevitably also contest my “free lunch.” Learned today that one of my table-mates at lunch ( C h i c k e n Provence, Red Potatoes, Peas & Carrots, Tossed Salad w/Italian Dressing, Holiday Cookie-- which I gave to someone else), is an escaped refugee from Iran (left with the clothes on his back etc.) -- so odd that they would seek refuge in the country of their actual oppression... It’s increasingly/surprisingly very different on this side of the river (Willamette runs through Portland). I’m still just amazed that you/anyone has shows and earns money. Love to see ‘em when done. My housemate’s aunt (a retired nurse) has a tita-

nium knee now: I guess it’s a common operation (that would still bankrupt most people) but I’d be scared to death to come anywhere near a hospital here. Mild and freezing fog. Where do you buy your canvases? Even farther south though in parts of western Japan 1525cm is expected. Already in Gifu prefecture up to 40cm has been seen in the past 24hrs. This same system has continued to trigger gusty winds as well. The interaction with the high out of Mongolia trying to push south and the low over Japan has generated a strong northwesterly gradient which has produced winds up to 100kph along coastal areas. This of course will create white out Conditions for those being impacted by the heavy snowfall. Not to mention wind chill will be hazardous for those outside for too long. The high over Mongolia itself will continue to produce colder temperatures for much of North East China this coming week. A warming trend may start to develop over the weekend though as southerly winds start to flow across the region. By Saturday scattered showers will be seen across much of Southern China as a new low starts to develop here. This will be a big weather maker not only for Southern China but also much of Japan through the early part of next week. No entry visa is required for Kish. Foreign nationals need no entry visa at the authorised arrival and departure points in Kish Island. At Kish International Airport, the officials will take your photograph, fingerprints, and stamp your passport, allowing you to stay up to 14 days on the Island. Beware: if you are western, you may be sternly questioned as to the purpose of your visit. Make sure you bring all verification paperwork including hotel reservations with phone numbers, etc. Upon arrival at Kish Airport, all female passengers will be immediately escorted to a room and very politely ordered to wear headscarves and long robes to cover their entire body. The clothing is available at the Airport, and passengers are expected to return them when leaving Kish. Female visitors may be detained for a period of time under the perception that they ‘might have difficulty finding their way around the island’. However, the staff in general are very polite, but speak little English. Kyle Tom Kamaiopili, 40, a resident of Pearl City, was sentenced in federal court on December 13, 2013, to a jail term of 13 years for five federal child pornography offenses. Kamaiopili previously pled guilty to four counts of distributing child pornography over the Internet and to one count of possessing approximately 4,300 still images and 125 videos of child pornography at his residence. Four more innocents were released from America’s Robben Island this month. Our offshore penal colony at Guantanamo Bay still holds 158 prisoners, 84 of whom have been cleared for release. The men sent home were never charged with a crime and were cleared four years ago. The releases may give other prisoners a reason for hope if they heard the news. During hunger strikes last spring, some of which lasted over 80 days, the military raided the prison and put 100 strikers in solitary. No one knows how or what information passes to them. At the time, when 100 of 166 prisoners were refusing food, the ACLU, the Center for Victims of Torture, Human Rights Watch and 17 other civic groups wrote to Pentagon boss Chuck Hagel that force feeding detainees was “cruel, inhuman and degrading” --- the treaty definition of torture --- and called for its immediate and permanent cessation. Hagel also got a letter from Jeremy Lazarus, the president of the American Medical Association, who charged that doctors helping force-feed prisoners against their will violated “core ethical values of the medical profession.” From February to June, the White House presided over the torturous force-feeding of at least 21 bound prisoners, a choking and gagging experience in which plastic tubes are shoved through the nostrils and down the throat while one is cinched to a restraint chair Presently I am battling with both lung cancer and stroke and according to my doctor, my medical report quotes a very short life sperm due to my present health condition that I only have about 1-3 months to live, I do not know but only God can say. That is just my faith as a deteriorating cancer patient. But I pray to God to heal me so that I will be alive and see this work done as my late husband instructed me. Because my present health condition I have decided to donate the above mentioned funds to an individual Muslim, Christian or any faith, He or She will utilize these funds the way I am going to instruct herein. If I ask my relatives or my husband relatives to use these funds for less privilege ones they will use it for their own personal interest. I don’t want these funds to be used in such manner; I know we have not meet before but I want you to consider this matter as DIVINE MISSION!!! I want you and your family to always pray for me because the lord is my shepherd, my happiness is that I lived a worthy life and whoever that wants to serve the God must serve him in spirit and truth. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you more details regarding this great mission. Remain blessed. Mrs.Franka David hello My name is Goodness Aburey. Cathey of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment on two felony charges for producing child pornography. He appeared before U.S. District Judge John A. Ross in Cape Girardeau. Upon completion of that sentence, he will be placed on supervised release for the remainder of his life. Previously with his plea, Cathey admitted that over a period of several years, he took photographic images of two minor females whom he caused to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Both children were less than 12 years old when Cathey started taking the photographs. Cathey stored some of the sexually explicit images on a CD. The images of the children were discovered when Cathey sold his computer and failed to remove the CD containing the photographs. After years of being held at the US Naval Base in Cuba without trial, Ibrahim Idris, one of two Sudanese detainees released on Thursday, said US prison officials had “systematically tortured” him in the course of his 11-year imprisonment at Gitmo. Idris, who has been described by US officials as mentally ill, delivered his comments in a news conference in Khartoum, just hours after returning home courtesy of a US military plane. Appearing weak and speaking with apparent difficultly, Idris gave a brief account of his lengthy imprisonment at Gitmo. “We have been subjected to meticulous, daily torture,”he said. “We were helpless, on an isolated island, surrounded by weapons.” He praised the Sudanese government and human rights organizations for working to secure the release of prisoners at Gitmo, which has been called “the GULAG of our times” by Amnesty International. Closeddoor military tribunals, for example, have been riddled with problems, including courtroom speakers that have a mysterious tendency for being blocked during key testimony. gascar is facing a public health threat straight out of the Middle Ages: At least 20 people in the country’s northwest died last week from the bubonic plague, and 2012 saw some 256 plague cases and 60 deaths--more than in any other country in the world. One major problem seems to be the rat-infested prisons like the notorious facility in Antanimora, which holds 3,000 inmates. The International Committee of the Red Cross in October warned that the facility’s overcrowding and poor sanitary conditions present a serious plague threat--not just to prisoners, but to those outside its walls, too, since inmates’ relatives can catch the disease when they visit the facility, and detainees are often released without having been treated. To stem infections, authorities have been disinfec ting the prison and trying to trap rats. Before you give your houseplants that next drink of water, you should know that, according to Ohio State University researchers, cold water can destroy the ability of root cells to take in water and nutrients. Water below 50 degrees Fahrenheit was found to reduce leaf size, cause leaf drop and eventually contributed to the death of potted plants. Those plants that require frequent watering, such as Spathphyllum and Ficus, are especially prone to damage and should not be watered with water below 65 degrees. Other tests showed that warmer water of about 90 degrees actually stimulated growth. The W A N K worm had a distinct political message attached, and it was the first major worm to have a political message. WANK in this context stands for Worms Against Nuclear Killers. The worm coincidentally appeared on a DECnet computer network shared between NASA and the US Department of Energy days before the launch of a NASA space shuttle carrying the Galileo spacecraft. At the time, there were protests outside the Kennedy Space Center in Florida by anti-nuclear groups regarding the use of the plutonium-based power modules in Galileo. The protesters contended that if this shuttle blew up “like Challenger did”, the plutonium spilled would cause widespread death to residents of Florida. The worm propagated through the network pseudo-randomly from one system to the other by using an algorithm which converted the victim machine’s system time into a candidate target node address (composed of a DECnet Area and Node number) and subsequently attempted to exploit weakly secured accounts such as SYSTEM and DECNET that had pass-

word identical to the usernames. The worm did not attack computers within DECnet area 48, which was New Zealand. A comment inside the worm source code at the point of this branch logic indicated that New Zealand was a nuclear free zone. New Zealand had recently forbidden U.S. nuclear-powered vessels from docking at its harbors, thus further fueling the speculation inside NASA that the worm attack was related to the anti-nuclear protest. The line “You talk of times of peace for all, and then prepare for war” is drawn from the lyrics of the Midnight Oil song Blossom and Blood; Midnight Oil are an Australian rock band known for their political activism and opposition to both nuclear power and nuclear weapons. The process name of the second version of the worm to be detected was “oilz”, an Australian shorthand term for the band. Tibetans need strong voices like Dhondup Wangchen’s to stand with them against the assault on their human rights: Nomads are evicted from their pastures Schoolchildren are expelled for requesting Tibetan textbooks Monasteries are under constant surveillance Several Tibetans have responded with desperate acts of protest -- including setting themselves on fire -- as a last attempt to demand the same freedom and rights to which every human being is entitled. Wood A perdurable characteristic of cryptography and cryptographers is duplicity often discussed and debated in the field, cheated and lied about, preened and ridiculed. Crypto’s essential role in projecting and protecting power requires duplicity to serve officials and counter-officials, know thy enemy, as Machiavelli and others have observed. Reputation building of cryptosystems and cryptographers proceeds duplicitously.
