Walkabout

We resurrected this name from a section in The Borneo Post’s discontinued weekly publication PostMag, since the title seems to incorporate everything from most-talked topics to current issues, personalities and events.

CampUSlife A section specifically about life on campus from both students and lecturers, where readers can get the news about school programmes, clubs and associations, ongoing research findings and projects, events and school highlights.

YourSay Growing up can be fun, it can be awkward, and sometimes it can be pretty lonely. YourSay doubles as an advice column as well as a sounding board where you can post your personal problems anonymously and readers are also invited to post helpful advice.

Lifestyle For the weekend warrior in all of us, where people can read up on healthy lifestyles and activities, food and beverage and read up on what’s hot at the cinema, what to read or what to listen to in our reviews section.

Pixels Never has photography been more prevalent than it is now since the advent of the smartphone. Send your photos in to us with your name and a caption for your photo and see it featured on this page. Over time we will incorporate themes for the week, along with ‘like’ features that will enable the readers to vote for their favourite photo. Top-liked photos will be featured as ‘Photo of the Week’, ‘Photo of the Month’ and by the end of the year there will be a special exhibition where we award ‘Photo of the Year’. To keep track of what’s going on, like our Facebook page (facebook.com/theborneopostseeds), or add us: Twitter @borneopostseeds, Instagram.com/theborneopostseeds. DUCATION is the beacon that lights the path ahead. It’s what every boy and every girl deserves to have in order to learn life lessons and values that will make them valuable and contributing members of society. Quality education makes you think, rationalise and act differently. You will be more independent and have the tools to create a better life for yourself. Without education, Sarawak would not be where it is today. Together with the various development partners, we want to see every child have fair and early access to education. The government has invested heavily in schools, teachers, and skills and vocational training programmes that will cultivate resiliency, adaptability and innovativeness within our community so that we as a state can progress together. Borneo Post, a private institution and a corporation, has undertaken as their CSR activity to organise the Borneo Post International Education Fair that has brought together the various institutions from both public and private and from overseas, notably New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom and Taiwan under one roof to display their myriad of courses and programmes available. BPIEF provides opportunities for school-leavers, parents and teachers to

DUCATION inspires students to dream, instilling confidence and it opens up a world of possibilities for them. The reality is that education is a series of moments, each one helping to build greater understanding, self-esteem and character as students learn to become open to new concepts, ideas and possibilities. Success in education is often measured based on our ability to prepare students for the rigours and challenges of the real world.

learn about where to study and what to study including where discover your options in financial assistance. As the patron for BPIEF, I encourage students, parents and teachers to take time to visit this fair and meet up with as many exhibitors, ask as many questions and get as much information. I wish you all the best as you map out your future. Thank you.

With our world changing rapidly due to technological advances, migration and residential patterns, and global economic, environmental, political and social conditions, we need to continually assess our programmes, policies and related strategies in order to meet the needs, interests, expectations and aspirations of individuals and communities alike as well as the needs of the country. In this respect the Sarawak Education Department is very committed to ensuring students are educated with the right skills and mindsets that will help them meet challenges as the country progresses, making sure that no one will be left behind. As thousands of students pass through the halls of the education system every year, they will need accurate information on choices of further education or training programmes. This is where the Borneo Post International Education Fair comes in. The effort of Borneo Post in organising this event to bring education institutions under one roof right to our doorstep as a CSR activity is highly commendable and worthy of support. I strongly urge students and parents to visit Borneo Post International Education Fair for the exposure and to look at the very wide range of choices and options available for their tertiary education and skills training. ‘Menjulang Pendidikan Sarawak’

HE Borneo Post has been around for 36 years and many people grew up reading the newspaper. We are Borneo’s most widely circulated English daily – thanks to staunch support from our readers over the years. As such, we feel it is our corporate social responsibility to give back to the society that has largely been responsible for our present standing within the orbit of the print media in the state. What better way to do this than to act as the bridge between the government that aspires to provide the people with quality education as well as information on choices of education and training programmes,

and the institutions of higher learning that strive to tap the socio-academic potential students to the fullest under one roof. Hence, the Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF) which is being organised with full cognizance of the fact that the ability to know what to expect in an increasingly competitive world is a vital quality a student should be imbued with. What decisions should they make? Where should they go? And whatever decisions they make will invariably shape their future. This is where the Borneo Post International Education Fair comes in. Through our fifth installment of BPIEF, representatives of various universities, colleges institutions and training centres come together to advise students and their parents on courses that pertain to the chosen career paths, accommodation, fees and other related information. We are thankful to the government of Sarawak, YB Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development and BPIEF patron, the State Education Department and various quarters for their efforts, assistance and advice in ensuring the success of the event year after year. The Borneo Post would also like to extend its warmest welcome to all the exhibitors and visitors and to record with sincere thanks their support for yet another BPIEF endeavour that aspires to champion the cause of education state and nationwide. Thank you.

W

E are proud to present the 5th edition of Borneo Post International Education Fair

(BPIEF). BPIEF is blessed with many institutions that have been with us since the beginning and the scores of visitors who specially made their way to BPIEF to meet up with the exhibitors. As we plant this milestone, we express our thanks and gratitude for the support and continuous guidance of the Sarawak Government, our Patron the Honourable Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, the State Education Department, teachers, students, exhibitors, parents as well as the various organisations who have over the years given feedback and suggestions that have allowed us to improve and establish BPIEF as Borneo’s premier education fair. We, at BPIEF, welcome new and returning exhibitors from public and private institutions both local and overseas as well as showcase the New Zealand Pavilion which returns even bigger than last year with more institutions. We also welcome the foresighted traders from the related industries who bring variety to this fair. Our heartfelt thanks go out to:

DORGE RAJAH BPIEF chairman

· To the institutions which hold or organise contests, activities, talks · The volunteers who have returned over the years to help with the BPIEF event · The corporations who have sponsored prizes for the lucky draws as well as goodies and door gifts for visitors · To all who have stepped up to assist us in various ways Terima Kasih.

One of the initiatives was introducing 24 weeks ZeeroFees English scholarships to all the students from Malaysia who require to improve their level of English before moving on to a main stream course. Understanding the financial burden international students undertake when deciding to study abroad, SIT recently introduced a 16-week accommodation scholarship to students directly starting Postgraduate studies with us in 2014. The accommodation scholarship allows students to stay at newly completed SIT apartments at no cost to the student. The scholarship is valued at approximately NZ$4,000.00. There will be some country specific scholarships soon to be introduced for Malaysian students considering to study at SIT.
