Meet Kayla! My name is Kayla Bishop and I am a senior studying Sociology at Illinois State University! I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. LCSRA allows me to do both of those things all while having fun with the campers. I am looking forward to making memories that are full with laughter this summer.

Who we are

Lily Cache Special Recreation Association (LCSRA) represents the partnership between Bolingbrook and Plainfield Park Districts in their mission to serve the special needs population. Our goal is to provide recreational programs which build self-esteem and promote a lifetime of growth. LCSRA strives to go beyond the normal range of services and programs offered by schools or other agencies. Lily Cache Special Recreation Association fosters an environment which allows individuals to discover their own unique potential and abilities. LCSRA serves individuals with disabilities which can include but are not limited to physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, communication disorders, emotional/ behavior disorders, and autism spectrum disorder.

BEHAVIOR/CODE OF CONDUCT & WELLNESS GUIDELINES

To ensure that all LCSRA participants enjoy programs and events to their fullest, and in the interest of safety, we use the following guidelines:

BEHAVIOR/CODE OF CONDUCT

LCSRA will attempt reasonable accommodations to enable participants to meet behavior expectations. • Show respect to all participants, staff, and public. • Listen to and comply with staff direction and program rules. • Allow others in the program and others at public facilities to enjoy the activity without disruption (within reason). • Refrain from using foul language, discussing inappropriate topics or other offensive behavior. • Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm or offensive physical contact to self, other participants, staff or public. • Show respect to equipment, supplies, and facilities. Additional rules are developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by the staff. If inappropriate behaviors occur, a prompt resolution will be sought specific to each individual. LCSRA reserves the right to dismiss participants whose behavior endangers the safety of themselves or others.

WELLNESS GUIDELINES

In consideration of other participants and staff, and to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses, it is recommended that participants refrain for programs when any of the following conditions exist: • Fever of 100° or higher • Vomiting within the last 24 hours • Persistent diarrhea in conjunction with other symptoms • Contagious rash or a rash of unknown origin • Persistent cough and/or cold symptoms • Eye infections or discharge from the eye • Symptoms of mumps, measles, chicken pox, strep throat, flu, impetigo, or Coxsackie’s virus • Runny nose with yellow or green discharge • Lice or mites • Fatigue due to illness that hinders participation in a program Please notify LCSRA if the participant contracts any contagious illness that will affect their attendance at a program. Participants should return to programs at the doctor’s recommendation, or, if not under a doctor’s care, when the symptoms have clearly passed. LCSRA reserve the right to dismiss participants who show signs of illness.

WEEKLY PROGRAMS

COMMUNITY CRUISERS

Community Cruisers is a recreation based program developed to meet the needs of young adults with disabilities that are no longer eligible for school services. The program provides opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential through recreational activities that promote positive peer interactions, community integration, and reinforcement of basic life skills. All interested participants need to complete a packet which includes an intake assessment to evaluate which of the programs is most appropriate for each individual. COMMUNITY CRUISERS BLACKHAWKS

Ages 21 years & up The focus of this program is to continue to foster and develop peer relationships while exposing participants to a variety of community based recreational activities. There are certain eligibility requirements that must be met in order to participate in this program: participants must be independent in their daily living skills, have the ability to maintain a moderate level of physical activity, and be able to follow verbal directions from staff with minimal behaviors. There is a limit of 1 wheelchair in the program. LEGO CREATIONS

Ages 12-17 years Gain communication, fine motor, and problem solving skills as you build your own Lego project! As part of a team, you will build confidence as you experiment with your project as it continues to grow each week. This class runs back-to-back with Art and Culture. ART AND CULTURE

Ages 8-17 years Calling all budding artists! Culture plays an important role in our lives. It can influence and shape the way we think, act and the art that is produced. In this class, you will learn about a variety of cultures and create 7 unique pieces of art that have a cultural influence. On the last day of class, LCSRA will host an art show that highlight the creations made in class. Light refreshments on the day of the art show will be served. ROCK WALL ADVENTURE

Ages 6-17 years Does your child love to climb? Let’s reinforce their natural talent by rock climbing. Participants will learn basic wall climbing and progress at their own pace. Each section of the wall increases in difficulty. While waiting, participants will engage in fitness and team build activities. This class requires a climbing wall waiver prior to participation. FITNESS

Ages 17 years & up Being active can reduce stress, build muscle tone, increase energy levels, and help maintain a healthy weight. This class will focus on getting everyone moving to increase heart rate, as well as basic body weight exercises that can be done anywhere. Each individual will work at their own pace while learning how to incorporate fitness activities into a daily routine that will be motivating and hopefully become part of a healthy routine. Ages 3-17 years Summer is a time for soakin’ up the hot rays and coolin’ off in the water. Join your friends for a dip in the pool. Please wear swim attire and bring a towel. DISC GOLF

Ages 13-17 years Disc Golf is a cross between golf and playing Frisbee with a friend. KARATE

Ages 7 years & up Come join us for our physical and mental self-defense promoting, confidence building, focus improving martial arts class! Full Life Martial Arts teaches students of all ability levels the life giving principles of martial arts during this program. RUNNING CLUB

Ages 16 years & up Whether you are a beginner runner or have a couple of races under your belt, we want to help you achieve your goals while getting out and moving. Each week we will walk, jog, or run at an individual pace while aiming to increase distance and stamina so that ultimately each runner can complete a 5K at the end of the season.

RHYTHM WORKS DANCE PROGRAM

Ages 6-17 years Everyone deserves a chance to dance. This inclusive class focuses on skill development, self-empowerment, and celebrating our differences. Work on gross and fine motor skills, body awareness and control, social skills, strength, flexibility, focus, motor recall, coordination, expressive language, and much more. Based on the Hip Hop Made Easy Program (currently offered in 2000+ schools & dance studios worldwide) our RWID classes use rhythm and hip hop dance to assist in achieving goals across the 5 developmental domains. During each class, a certified dance instructor will work closely with each student to assist in learning specific objectives, skill development, and brain breaks. LCSRA LEISURE BOWLING LEAGUE

Ages 16 years & up LCSRA’s leisure bowling league is designed for anyone looking to meet new friends and try their hand at a noncompetitive sport. Staff will provide basic instruction for beginner bowlers, while working with the return bowlers on different strategies to improve their game. Scores will be recorded each week. The cost includes use of the lanes, shoes, and two games of bowling. MOMMY/DADDY AND ME PLAYGROUP NEW LOCATION

Ages 3-6 years Spend the summertime doing fun activities with mom and/dad while meeting new friends. This interactive playgroup will provide opportunities for parents to connect as well as participants to enjoy songs, story time, arts and crafts and gross motor activities. Social skills will be a focus of this group. Ages 4-10 years Learning basics like dribbling, passing, shooting and defense are the goals for this program. Special attention will be placed on sportsmanship and teamwork. Ages 8-17 years Does your child have trouble making and maintaining friends? Do they have a difficult time relating to their peers? Do they struggle with understanding the perceptions of others? Then this is a group for your child. The focus of this group will be how to develop social skills and then how to implement them in recreational activities. Participants must be able to role play scenarios, discuss feelings and use symbolic thinking. LCSRA reserves the right to determine if this program is appropriate for an individual. Ages 12-17 years Nothing brings family and friends together like a good board game. Every week a new game will be introduced and some old favorites will make their appearance as well. DINNER & MOVIE

Cool off with a relaxing dinner and then a new release in the air conditioned theater. This is a great opportunity to catch up on all the newest movies while getting out of the house and hanging with friends! The fee includes admission to the movie, staff supervision, & transportation. Participants are responsible for the cost of their dinner, including a tip and any concessions at the theater. NINJA ZONE

Ages 7-12 years Ninja Zone is a thrilling new sport for kids. It was developed by fusing elements of martial arts, gymnastics, obstacle course training and freestyle movement. CAMPING OVERNIGHT

Ages 16 & up It wouldn’t be summer at LCSRA without the camping overnight trip. We are headed to Hidden Oaks Nature Center for a night under the stars. We will sleep in tents, cook meals over an open fire, explore the woods at dark, and eat gooey s’mores for a night time snack. If you have a tent, please bring it. LCSRA will provide the cooking equipment and food. A packing list will be sent out one week prior to all registered participants.

GREAT AMERICA

Ages 16 & up Six Flags offers a variety to do from pulse-pounding roller coasters to a relaxing train ride around the park. Whether you are an avid roller coaster rider, or just like to walk around and enjoy calmer rides, this is a great trip! Please note that in order to obtain the attraction access pass which allows qualified guest access to attractions without the full wait time, each participant must have a note from their doctor that includes doctors name, address of practice, phone number, name of person requesting the pass, statement indicating a disability under ADA, and a doctors signature. If you have attended this trip in the past, you do not need a doctor’s note; you will already be on file. All individuals registered should wear comfortable shoes and bring a backpack with extra clothes, sunscreen, and a water bottle. No meals are provided so please pack food or bring money to purchase something to eat. It is recommended to bring $50 for food and souvenirs. At the end of the evening we will stop at the Oasis for a bite to eat.

Ages 8 years and up The Equestrian Program offers Special Olympics athletes the experience of horseback riding as sport. Athletes must have already participated in therapeutic riding with a certified instructor. Equestrian is a challenging program, requiring athletes to both keep their focus and balance and to communicate well with their horse. Athletes will be train either the Western track or the English track in preparation for the STATE competition in October to display their abilities. Instructed by Kris Mondrella each rider will work towards his/her individual goals. Doctor’s consent is required in order to participate in this program. Ages 13 years & up Join us as we prepare for another exciting season of Special Olympics Floor Hockey. This program will consist of 8 weeks of skill-building drills and instruction on the rules of game play along with game play the second half of the season. We will train for the Special Olympics Tournament in Chicago tentatively scheduled for November 14. Special Olympics floor hockey is different than traditional floor hockey. Each player wears protective equipment, uses a straight hockey stick and attempts to score a goal with a donutshaped puck. A schedule of games will be available the first few weeks of practice. Phone registration will not be accepted unless otherwise noted. 2. Registration for programs will end 48 hours prior to the starting date unless otherwise noted. 3.
