A Letter from the Executive Director

Fall is a fun time of year for us at Bolingbrook Park District. We have a ton of new and innovative programs planned, special events scheduled, and of course, our parks and paths are open and ready for some cool weather fun. We continue to be committed to bringing you as many in-person activities as we can, with an important focus on wellness and safety. Fall Fest is back after a two-year hiatus. We are excited to bring back this FREE annual event featuring autumn themed activities, a great band and food trucks! I hope you have had an opportunity to visit a few of our renovated playgrounds. This summer we completed Winston Woods, Community, Bradford, Freedom and Sunset Park playgrounds. Each are unique in design and each feature age appropriate attractions. We also celebrated the opening of our new pathway and bridge over the LilyCache Creek by Drafke Park. This path has already been well utilized. As always, please be sure to check our website for details on your favorite fall activities. As we have opened up more and more after a challenging pandemic, we are honored to provide wonderful programs and services for your and your families. The board and staff of Bolingbrook Park District very much appreciate your support more than you will ever know. Happy fall!

4 YEAR OLD PROGRAM In this program, 4 year olds strengthen relationships with friends and teachers and begin to understand responsibility as they become more self-sufficient. The curriculum focuses on emerging literacy, math, science, creative art and fine motor skills to prepare children for Kindergarten. This class runs 2 or 3 days per week.

This program nurtures a 3 year old’s social and emotional growth, and provides a curriculum focusing on letters, numbers, shapes and colors, and the beginning stages of writing. This class runs 2 or 3 days per week.

Education & Camps Two Sites... One Common Goal... Create a Learner for Life.

Children 2 ½–3 years old have their first positive experiences in a preschool classroom and become comfortable separating from parents for a regular period of time. Development of social skills, large and small motor skills, and basic curriculum concepts are a part of your child’s day. Diapers and pull-ups are acceptable to begin with, but children should be on his or her way to taking care of their own toileting needs. This class runs 2 days per week.

The Bolingbrook Park District preschool programs, offered for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years of age, focus on educating children in a way that makes learning fun. Experienced teachers create a warm, positive educational environment that fosters a child’s natural creativity and curiosity. Children are engaged in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that are aligned with state preschool learning standards. We communicate with kindergarten program administrators in the area to ensure that our curriculum prepares our students for success in elementary school.

The LEGO Robotics Academy is a comprehensive program where children learn to design, build and program projects based on LEGO Education robotics. Using Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), this class uses teacher-led instruction followed by fun, engaging and dynamic activities. Students are introduced to basic robotics and mechanical engineering concepts by building and coding a different project each week. The Robotics Academy is a repeatable program where children are placed based on skill and experience. Students move up a level each time they take the class in order to take on more advanced concepts and activities.

LEARN TO CODE WITH SCRATCH Ages 8–14 years Students learn programming essentials using MIT’s Scratch coding language using a simple visual interface. A multilevel curriculum starts with children learning the basics of programming. Students program interactive media projects such as stories, games, and animations. The activities encourage exploration of key computational thinking concepts (sequences, loops, parallelism, events, conditionals, operators, data) and key computational thinking practices (experimenting and iterating, testing and debugging, reusing and remixing, abstracting and modularizing). Since this class is a multilevel program where children are placed based on skill and experience, students can repeat this class as they start where they left off from the last class.

Keep in mind: While the dance department offers classes by session, students should take a class for at least one year or more until the requirements of the next level have been mastered. Participating in a class for just a session or two may not be a sufficient length of time to adequately prepare the student for the next level of training. Please also keep in mind, while ages have been provided in the brochure’s description of classes to assist in the registration process, they do not supersede the recommendation of the teacher. Please stay in a level until the teacher recommends advancement. Do not hesitate to request feedback or evaluation from your teacher.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who is BYBL?

• Grass infields

Authentic baseball rules right from the start, allowing both wind-up and stretch pitching, lead-offs and base stealing—all skills players will need as they advance. What fundamentals are taught? Coaches work with the kids on how to pitch and catch, the fundamentals of fielding, batting, lead-offs, and stealing. They are taught how to play real baseball. What gives BYBL a big game feel? Some of our fields are lighted allowing evening games, and some feature raised mounds for a more authentic experience, grass (as opposed to dirt) infields, electronic scoreboards and nearby travel for away games for the older kids in the Spring, which helps build team spirit and prepare players for the future.

Fall 2021 registration is open online at bybl.org starting in June. Season will start in early September and end mid-October. All divisions are scheduled a minimum of 10–12 games, with no standings or playoffs. All games are played at Indian Boundary. No volunteer fees or fundraising are required. Division assignments for the fall ball season are determined by player’s age as of Aug 31, 2021. More information can be found at www.bybl.org.

• Lighted fields (enabling night games)

My child was in Tee-ball/Coach-pitch last year, what next? You’ve come to the right place. Most all of the kids in BYBL started in the tee-ball league and may have played in coach-pitch. Either the Pinto or the Mustang division is where your child would play. Is there a lot of travel involved? No. Most Pinto and Mustang division games are played in Bolingbrook. Bronco through Palomino divisions travel to neighboring communities for away games. Are uniforms included in the registration fees? Yes. All players will receive a complete uniform including pants, socks, jersey and hat. Pinto, Mustang, Bronco and Pony age players receive MLB replica uniform jerseys and caps.

BYBL is the local chapter of PONY Baseball, Inc. (Protect Our Nation’s Youth) and a member of the Greater DuPage PONY Baseball Association (GDPBA). PONY believes that rather than change the rules of the game to make it possible for young people to play, it is better to change the size of the playing fields and to adjust them to the potential of the players. For our Pinto and Mustang divisions (youngest players) they are taught fundamentals from the start, in a controlled environment that allows them to learn, while enhancing their skills, and still play real baseball too. What are the advantages of BYBL?

BYBL Pony Division: Ages 13 and 14

BYBL Mustang Division: Ages 9 and 10 The Mustang division is intended for 9 and 10 year old players that want to take the next step after playing in our Pinto division or CoachPitch. Children will enhance what they have already learned in the Pinto Division and integrate it into a more competitive and faster paced environment. The base path is adjusted to 60 ft. for this age player, and they pitch from 44 ft. The Mustang Division is still intended to be an instructional league, but season standings are kept and there is post-season play resulting in a Mustang champion. Similar to our Pinto Division, all players have equivalent playing time, and rules are in place for younger pitchers to allow them opportunity as well. In Mustang, children can expect to play approximately 18–20 games each spring season and all games are completed prior to the 4th of July, leaving family summer vacations intact. Uniforms are provided: MLB replica jersey and cap, pants and socks. All Mustang games are played right here in Bolingbrook. This too, is a fun age for children’s baseball as they continue to develop and refine baseball skills and learn to “think” the game of baseball.

Colt Division (Ages 15–16), Palomino Division (Ages 17–19), Collegiate Division (Ages 18–28) Colt, Palomino and Collegiate divisions will play in the SWILA Baseball Association, a competitive league for high school and collegiate players that has teams from Chicago’s SW suburbs playing 18 spring games (9 home & 9 away), an all-star game at Silver Cross Field in Joliet and playoffs leading to the Championship games to be played at Silver Cross Field, home of the Joliet Slammers. All Colt registrants will be drafted to a team. The Palomino Division registrants may or may not be assigned to a team on the discretion of the team(s) head coach. Any Palomino or Collegiate registrants who are not assigned to a team will receive a full refund. These divisions will play games from around May 18th thru July 9th. Playoffs and Championships will run thru July 26th. Please see www.swilabaseball.com for more information. Are families required to participate in fundraising during the spring season? Candy sales are offered to help offset some of the registration costs of playing spring baseball and to help keep the cost of playing affordable. One of the main benefits of our sale is that BYBL only asks families to sell candy per family (not sell boxes for each child playing). Families also have the option to buy-out and not sell the candy.

The Bronco division is for the 11 and 12 year old child looking to build on their baseball experience. Leadoffs, the sacrifice bunt, and hit and run plays are all a part of the Bronco division. Players also get the chance to play on a larger diamond (70 ft bases) for that big league feel, and pitch from 48 ft. Coaches at this level refine the baseball skills and fundamentals of the players without losing site of the main objective—to have fun. Children can expect to play approximately 18–20 games each spring season. Uniforms are provided: MLB replica jersey and cap, pants, belts and socks.

The Pony division is for the 13 and 14 year old interested in enjoying a season rich with baseball and healthy competition. The Pony Division is fun and exciting and played the way baseball is meant to be played. This is real baseball. Leadoffs, stealing bases, bunting, hit and run plays, and pick-offs are just some of the nuances of the game at this level. Games are played on the same size fields as middle school at this age (80ft bases), with a 54 ft. mound. Children can expect to play approximately 21–24 games each spring season. Uniforms are provided: MLB replica jersey and cap, pants, belts and socks.

BYBL DIVISIONS

The Pinto division is intended for 7 and 8 year old players that want to take the next step after playing coach-pitch or tee-ball. Children will begin to learn the whole game of baseball. They will begin to learn how to pitch from the wind-up and stretch, catch, steal bases, play the outfield, hit the cutoff man, defend the steal, acknowledge base signs and turn the double play. For this age player, the base path is set at 50 ft., and they pitch from 38 ft. The Pinto Division is intended to be an instructional league, but season standings are kept and there is postseason play resulting in a Pinto champion. All players have equivalent playing time, and rules are in place for younger pitchers to allow them opportunity as well. In Pinto, children can expect to play approximately 14–16 games each spring season and all games are completed prior to the 4th of July, leaving family summer vacations intact. Uniforms are provided: MLB replica jersey and cap, pants and socks. All Pinto games are played right here in Bolingbrook. This is an extremely fun age for children’s baseball as they develop and refine baseball skills and learn to “think” the game of baseball.
