BSPC People . . . who’s in-house? Each issue we get to know a BSPC professional from one of BSPC’s member firms and this week we are speaking to - Helen Moffat from Charles & R.B. Anderson Tell us about your role within Charles and R.B. Anderson? My duties within the practice are very varied and include running the estate agency side of the business, ranging from dealing with all enquiries coming into the office via telephone, email or in person to preparing sale particulars, taking photographs, advertising, arranging /doing viewings and then negotiating/submitting offers for both purchases and sales. I also deal with most aspects of the residential conveyancing so my days are never weary and my work is never dull.

How long have you worked with the firm? I have been employed by Charles & R.B. Anderson since leaving school at Christmas 1977. Some 37 years or so later, perhaps you could say “I’m in with the bricks!”

What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy the many challenges which each new day throws at you and the fact there are never two the same as well as meeting and dealing with many interesting clients, both old and new. Also, negotiating to buy or sell property on their behalf and then handling matters through to completion and the handing over of keys , gives me great satisfaction.

What keeps you busy when you’re not at the office? I have many interests which keep me busy outwith the office. I am Treasurer of Jethart Callant’s Festival and Vice-Chairman of Roxburghshire Federation of SWI. I also love gardening, following national hunt racing and supporting Jedforest RFC. My husband and I have a flock of sheep too so it has been full on with lambing these last few weeks.

Where’s your favourite place in the Borders? I have many as the Borders in general are a beautiful part of Scotland but on a good day taking in the view of the ‘rolling hills’ from the Carter Bar.

Tell us about your home or dream home? Designing and building my own home incorporating various ideas/features seen in the many beautiful properties I have visited and photographed over the years.

What would be your ideal holiday? I would love a holiday in New Zealand, Australia and Canada.

What’s your greatest achievement? Can’t think of the greatest – just grateful for what I have achieved in life so far.

Name two things you can’t live without? Good friends and a ‘G & T’.

What’s your favourite Borders eatery? There are lots of lovely eateries in the Borders but for a special occasion Chapters, Gattonside gets my vote.

Who is your favourite author/ artist or designer? Don’t have any favourites – but do enjoy autobiographies.

What’s playing in your car right now? Radio Borders or Neil Diamond’s latest CD which was a Christmas present from my two cats!!

What natural talent would you like to have? To be more artistic/creative.
