Die Bredasdorp-polisie doen ’n beroep op alle sakelui om veiligheidsmaatreëls by hul besighede op te skerp ná ’n gewapende roof Maandagoggend om 10:10 by American Swiss in die dorp plaasgevind het. AO Robina Cupido, woordvoerder van Bredasdorp-polisie het gesê die klag van gewapende roof is Maandag by hulle aangemeld. “Na bewering was die klaer omstreeks 10:10 in die winkel toe drie mans instap.” Twee van die mans het na die vrou geloop en gesê hulle wil ’n ring koop. “Terwyl sy met die mans praat, het haar kollega uit die kombuis gekom en die twee mans stap toe na haar kollega en begin haar rondstoot.” Volgens die vrou het die derde man, wat in die deur gestaan het, na die klaer gestap en haar met ’n vuurwapen gedreig. Die mans het toe glo die twee vrouens na die kombuis geneem waar hulle vasgebind is. Die mans het aangedring op die kluis se sleutel, waarna hulle vort is met juweliersware, selfone en kontant. “Die totale waarde van die gesteelde items is nog nie op hierdie stadium bekend nie, maar die geskatte waarde van die items wat gesteel is beloop R92 000.” Kol. Mareé Louw, stasiebevelvoerder van Bredasdorppolisie versoek besigheidseienaars om hulself te beveilig met alarmstelsels, CCTV-kameras en paniekknoppies asook elektroniese veiligheidshekke. “Dit vergemaklik ons taak as daar kameras is om die verdagtes uit te ken. Omdat die mense vasgebind is in die winkel, kon hulle nie sien met watter voertuie die aanvallers weggery het nie. Mense moet nie in ’n gemaksone verval omdat hulle dink dis veilig in die platteland nie.” Louw meen misdaad versprei na die platteland omdat groter druk en meer mannekrag in die stad nou ontplooi is. “Die kriminele kom platteland toe omdat hulle sien mense beveilig nie hul besighede soos in die stad nie.” Sy sê kriminele doen vooraf observasie by die besighede en hou hul doen en late dop. Sy sê sy het opgemerk na dié voorval word elke vreemde voertuig nou as verdag gerapporteer. “Maar hou dit nou asseblief vol, moenie weer ná twee weke ophou paraat wees nie.” Volgens Louw is niemand is nog in hegtenis geneem in verband met die voorval nie. “En dis vreemd want ons verdagtes kom nooit weg nie.” Die ondersoek duur voort. Die polisie vra die gemeenskap indien hulle inligting het om met die polisie in verbinding te tree by 028 425 400 of om 10111 te skakel.

Tourism has committee ANNETTE THERON On Wednesday evening a steering committee was elected at the Bot River Hotel to promote tourism in the region. Derek Searle Crabtree, chairperson of the Cape Country Meander, was the guest speaker and stressed the need for cohesion,

co-operation and working towards the same objective. “Our main objective is eco-agricultural and educational tourism.” The floor was then opened for nominations and the first meeting of the newly formed Bot River Tourism Association will take place on 30 April, where a chairperson will be elected and portfolios allocated.

Two shacks razed to ground A fire destroyed two shacks in Riemvasmaak on Monday morning. The shack of Mamela Sinamele (22) was razed to the ground. Sinamele says he suspects he did not turn off his paraffin stove when he left for work and upon his return he had lost all his earthly possessions in the fire. The fire also claimed the home of his neighbour who is currently in prison. Pick n Pay paid a visit to Sinamele on Wednesday afternoon to donate groceries and a blanket to the value of R800. Bedelaar tot voorsiener In Mark.10:46-52 lees ons van die blinde man Bartimeüs wat langs die pad sit en bedel. Toe hy hoor dat Jesus verbygaan het hy desperaat en volhardend uitgeroep na Jesus. Mense het hom stilgemaak, maar sy geloof het Jesus se aandag getrek. Jesus het gaan stilstaan en die blinde man na Hom geroep. Ons sou sê dat Jesus na hom moes gaan, maar Jesus het die blinde man se geloof en gesindheid getoets. Die blinde man het sy oorkleed (bedelaarskleed) afgegooi en in geloof opgestaan om Jesus te ontmoet. Toe doen Jesus ’n vreemde ding: Hy vra die blinde man wat Hy vir hom kan doen. Jesus kon mos sien die man is blind – waarom so ’n “dom” vraag? Jesus weet baie goed wat ons behoeftes is, maar Hy wil hê dat ons spesifiek in ons gebede moet wees. Ons moet Hom ook in geloof nader, met die regte gesindheid in ons hart. Bartimeüs is genees en het Jesus op die pad gevolg. Nou was hy nie meer ’n bedelaar nie, maar het die potensiaal gehad om ’n voorsiener te word. Hy hoef nou nie meer in ander se oë te kyk vir hulp nie, maar hy kan nou ’n bron vir ander se voorsiening wees. Deur God se genade kan ons verander word van ’n bedelaar (sondaar) tot ’n Koningskind (sielewenner). God se plan met elke mens is om hom te verlos van sy geestelike blindheid en van hom ’n geestelike leier te maak. Al wat Hy vra is gehoorsaamheid.

Owen Abrahams is weer Caledongholfklub se klubkampioen. Hy moes nege jaar wag om weer oorwinning te proe, nadat hy dit in 2006 ook vermag het. Die kampioenskappe, geborg deur Caledon Spar, is op 11 April aangebied by Caledon-gholfklub en die toernooi is op ’n houespel-formaat beslis. Spelers in die A- en B-afdelings het sake uitgespook oor 36 putjies, terwyl die C-afdeling en die vrouens mekaar oor 18 putjies die stryd aangesê het. Abrahams, 4-voorgee Brodie-ligaspeler van Caledongholfklub, het die opposisie uitgestof om as manskampioen vir 2015 gekroon te word. Sy rondtetellings van 76 en 73 is slegs drie houe meer as die baansyfer en was genoeg om Marshall Benjamin met ses houe te klop. Die verdedigende kampioen, Stevie Benjamin, was van stryk af. On 30 January, Kingsway Christian School held their annual swimming gala. It was a competition between the Red House and the Blue House. The students either participated in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke or medley. There were approximately 23 students that participated. It was a tie between the Red House and the Blue House, but in the end the Red House won. Everyone had lots of fun on the day.
