BENCH

CHARLIE BROWN’S 5783 Overland Road, 208-375-6541

Charlie Brown’s used to be a place for young folks in bellbottoms and leisure suits. Unlike its early patrons, not much has changed about Charlie Brown’s except the neighborhood. Now Charlie Brown’s is like the old guy who’s lived in the same place his whole life; he’s not going anywhere. All grit, no grace. HAPPY HOUR: Every day 5-6:30 p.m. $2 drafts, $2.75 wells.

JUMPIN’ JANET’S 572 S. Vista Ave., 208-342-7620

The jumpin’ in Jumpin’ Janet’s has everything to do with the fun-loving clientele after happy hour. In a strip mall, a menu of sandwiches and delicious apps gives patrons a little something to soak up two-forone happy-hour cocktails. HAPPY HOUR: Mon.-Fri. 4-7 p.m. $3 2-for-1 wells.

LITTLE DUTCH GARDEN 1910 S. Owyhee St., 208-342-9034

E Club The

The “LDG” sits smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood, and the selection of beers might be reminiscent of what patrons stock in their own refrigerators. In the cold weather, huddle around the fireplace, and when it’s hot, practice for the LDGsponsored horseshoe tournaments in the bar’s huge fenced back yard. HAPPY HOUR: Mon.-Fri. 4:30-6 p.m. $1 Rolling Rock 16 oz. pounders, $1.50 draft beer, $4 pitchers.

MCCLEARY’S PUB 604 N. Orchard Ave., 208-342-3007

The regulars will leave you alone or welcome you into the fold while you throw back some cold suds or stiff spirits. Get a little liquid courage in you, strike up a game of pool, shuffleboard, darts or pinball all by your lonesome or with a couple of your newest drinking buddies. HAPPY HOUR: Mon.-Fri. 9-10 a.m. and 5:30-7 p.m. 50 cents off drafts and $1 off wells.

NAVAJO ROOM 4900 Emerald St., 208-343-5817

Ah, the soothing comfort of a Western theme. Larger-than-life photos of the Duke and Clint Eastwood share wall space with Native American murals, and a corner stage serves as a karaoke corner. They’ve served up suds and drinks for more than 40 years in this joint where regulars meet at the bar, in front of a wood-burning brick fireplace or stake a claim in a cushioned corner booth. HAPPY HOUR: Mon.-Fri. 5-7 p.m. $2 cans, $2.25 wells.

OVERLAND BAR 3907 Overland Road, 208-336-4707

Black velvet paintings and stiff pours make the Overland feel like your parents’ bar. That is if your parents enjoy karaoke, shuffleboard, pool and ice-cold shots from a Jaeger machine.
