Delivery: Bulls will be delivered as soon as possible following the sale. Bulls may be returned to the farm until delivery can be made or you pick up your bull. All 2-year-old bulls sold in the sale will be delivered shortly after the sale. Wintering: We are willing to winter all sale bulls free of charge until April 1. After that date all buyers will be contacted and arrangements will be made for delivery or pick-up. All bulls sent back to the farm MUST be insured for full mortality. For us sale day is not only about offering our current crop for sale, it is also a chance to reconnect and visit with our past customers. Even if you are not in the market for another bull please join us on sale day for lunch and some fellowship. It is just one of the ways we say thank you!
The 2-year-olds on offer are the best group we have had. They represent the youngest bulls in our calf crop, and be assured that with calf prices as high as they have been, there is no incentive to keep anything but the best for our 2-year-old program. The yearling bulls are the largest group we have offered, and are uniform in terms of hoof quality, hair, muscle shape and soundness. We have a variety of pedigrees represented to allow both new and old customers the opportunity to find fresh genetics that will add value to their programs. There are multiple bulls in our offering that will fit everyone’s needs and budget, so rest assured that the time you spend to attend our sale will be worth while. We decided this year to offer a select group of commercial replacement heifers. We have been selling packages privately off the farm the last couple of years, and the phone always keeps ringing after they are sold. We felt by putting them in the sale everyone would have equal opportunity to add these females to their herd. WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN? Calving Ease Rating System: Sleep Easy: As the name implies a Sleep Easy sire is a calving ease bull that lets you sleep easy knowing you should have very little calving difficulty. These are the bulls we recommend to use on heifers. Curve Bender: Bulls marked with this symbol have more moderate birth weights while maintaining performance. They can be used on cows with no problems or large, well developed heifers preferably of British breeds. A few assisted births may be expected out of heifers. Power Plus: Bulls marked with this symbol have more punch and will likely produce larger calves at birth and more performance at weaning time. They are recommended for cows only.

Notes About EPDs: BW EPD: The birth weight EPD is a figure expressed in pounds and is a predictor of an individual’s contribution to its progeny at birth. WW EPD: The weaning weight EPD is expressed in pounds as the average weight of his progeny compared to an average bull of the breed for weaning weight. YW EPD: The yearling weight EPD is expressed in pounds as the average weight of his progeny compared to an average bull of the breed for yearling weight. It is the best indicator of overall growth. Milk EPD: The Milk EPD is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk as expressed in his daughters, or in other words that part of weaning weight attributed to milk genes. TM EPD: The TM EPD is a combination of an animals Milk EPD added to 50% of its Weaning Weight EPD. It is an indicator of the growth potential of progeny based on performance and milking ability. The TM EPD is a better indicator of a cows production potential than just Milk. CE EPD: The Calving Ease EPD is a percentage of probability that a bull’s calves will be born without any assistance. Therefore animals with a higher positive number will have greater probability of having no calving problems. MCE EPD: The Maternal Calving Ease EPD is a percentage of probability that a bull’s daughter’s calves will be born without any assistance. Therefore daughters of an animal with a higher positive number will have a greater probability of having no calving problems.

Face
Game Face is one of the most recognised bulls in the breed and turned many heads after topping the Six Mile Ranch bull sale for $65,000. We purchased some semen and bred some of our best females which has produced some of the sale features. Game Face is a rare combination of calving ease and explosive growth. His sons and daughters are soft made and easy fleshing. This sale will be one of the few you can buy direct Game Face progeny this year.

On
Game On is the bull we raised to use in our own heifer pen. After seeing his first calf crop we let him breed almost all our heifers last year. We were impressed with the calving ease he offered (100% unassisted) with that long, smooth build to his calves. Even though some of his sons in the sale are younger than their pen mates they have gained well. We highly recommend his sons for breeding heifers.

Magic Mike offers exceptional maternal strength. After seeing his dam Meg 85N and maternal sisters, we knew we had to incorporate his genetics. His sire Indeed is one of the legendary maternal sires in the breed. Fertility, udder quality and longevity are traits where he excels. We have used him successfully on heifers as he sires moderate birth weights while not giving up muscle shape or capacity. We added Monopoly to our AI program to add some outcross calving ease genetics. Monopoly is a son of TerRon Park Place who is a son of the famous HF Tiger 5T. We wanted to add the short gestation genetics of Tiger into our red cattle. Monopoly’s first calves all arrived early and without any assistance. In addition to calving ease, Monopoly also has an exceptional hair coat, and is deep sided.

Big Deal
Big Deal is one of our home raised herd bulls. Big Deal has bred very similar to his sire Real Deal. He was used to add depth of rib, fleshing ability, growth and more hair in everyone’s favorite dark red colour. Big Deal’s dam, Heather 84S, has been a great producer and comes from one of the original cow families our herd is built around. His grand-sire Jack Daniels 18M and the Heather cow family make good uddered, big bodied cows that always wean calves at the top of the herd. Wheel N Deal has proven to be a breed leading herd sire. He is sound footed, great haired and offers the muscle that is sometimes hard to find. He has proven to be a very consistent sire of both sexes keeping birth weights moderate (84 lbs average), adding muscle and keeping frame score in check. His dam is a premier female and has been a very successful donor cow for us. His full sister sports an ideal udder and his first daughters have excellent milk flow and udder quality. We are very excited about Wheel N Deal because of the balanced package he offers.

Power Eye was another AI sire we used on a few select cows. We were impressed with the calves we had seen and were hoping to add some new genetics to our program. When the chance to buy Creed came along he was a good fit as a walking bull that would add exceptional feet (probably the best we have ever seen on an Angus bull), length, style, and extra growth. He also brought to the table the exciting outcross pedigree from the highly proven Freedom line of Black Angus cattle. In addition to being a power sire his daughters have calved sporting beautiful udders. This year we have a good selection of red Creed sons and grand-sons in the sale including a feature 2-year-old. City
Atlantic City requires no introduction. He has been one of our most influential sires – he has two feature ET sons selling this year, and many of the feature bulls were raised by Atlantic City daughters. Some of the faults we noticed in the Red Angus breed were the cattle needed a larger hoof with more depth of heel, more overall width (especially between the pin bones), and more pay weight. Atlantic City improves all those traits. We don’t think there is any other bull in the breed that can add more squareness and dimension to his progeny. Like any great bull, we feel he has outbred himself several times. His daughters have beautiful, tidy, level udders and have become the cornerstone of our cow herd. We are happy to see how Dodge City 61Y has proven to be one of the highest growth sires in the breed. His progeny can perform on the same level as exotic breeds while still maintaining the maternal and carcass traits of Angus cattle. This son has that extra length and growth the feed lots demand. 49B’s dam is one of our favorite cows in the herd and has raised many top end calves. This bull can take a commercial herd to another level.

The last Jack son we will have to sell and what a job Jack has done in our herd. With time we have really grown to appreciate the big footed, deep ribbed, hairy cattle he has left us. His daughters are tanky, easy doing cows that are built to thrive in our harsh environment. Another Jack son from this bulls grand-dam Anne 7T was sold in our 2014 sale to JJL Livestock and he has done a great job for them. Do not overlook this great Jack son.

49C is probably the most unique bull in the sale. He is moderate framed but is extremely long bodied and has a lot of natural muscle shape. You would not expect a bull with an 81 lbs birth weight to be this massive. We really like his Real Deal mom, enough we showed her at Agribition as a calf, and she has matured into a beautiful cow.

Maybe my pick of all the Magic Mike sons, he just comes in a black hide. You have to appreciate the character and masculinity that Magic Man offers and his deep ribbed, thick made body type. The Jestress cows are some of our favorites for their hoof and udder quality. We think Magic Man has a lot to offer from a calving ease and maternal perspective.

For the first time, we are offering a group of replacement females in the sale. Being limited by the size of our land base makes these heifers now available. For the past few years, we have sold groups privately and the demand for these heifers has been strong. By offering them in the sale, everyone will have equal opportunity to add these foundation seedstock females to their program. The majority of the heifers are straight-bred Red Angus, with some carrying Simmental influence. This is a great opportunity to access replacement heifers that could provide the foundation for an F1 program. Most of the group are sired by our top herd sires, such as Magic Mike, Fast Lane, Game On, Big Deal and Magnum. These heifers represent the younger end of our calf crop and many were raised by first-calf heifers. We just can’t keep them all! They will be presented in working condition and have been developed side-by-side with our own replacements, receiving no additional feed. They will continue to grow and develop for their new owners. We will be offering approximately 20 heifers. They will be sorted and split into smaller groups of 3-5 head at sale time based on weight, breeding and type. We will have a supplement sheet available at the sale with more information. Heifers must be picked up from Saskatoon Livestock Sales after the sale. ALL HEIFERS HAVE BEEN POURED WITH IVOMEC AND RECEIVED TWO DOSES OF ULTRABAC 7 AND ZOETIS BOVA-SHIELD GOLD ONE SHOT.

the program
The principles of our breeding program are based on breeding cattle that are balanced in all traits.
We have placed special emphasis on improving the overall width, hip structure and muscling in our cattle; they are not your typical Red Angus. While above-average performance is desirable, we also understand the importance of calving ease and maternal traits which have gotten the Angus breed where it is today. The basics of strong hoof and udder structure are not compromised in our pursuit of genetic improvement. The Angus female forms the base of the commercial cowherd in North America. Her strong mothering ability, fleshing ability, fertility and milk production have made her the cornerstone of our industry. The instincts of the Angus cow are part of her trouble-free design that has made her often imitated, but never duplicated by other breeds. When selecting our own herd bulls their own mother is a large part of our selection criteria. You will often hear us speak about cow families and they are an extremely important part of breeding consistent and profitable genetics. Though we have utilized AI to bring in new genetics, we continually rely on our own herd bulls to raise the bar. We have found we can achieve more rapid, constant improvement in our herd by utilizing the strengths of our bulls. No animal is perfect, but by analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of our sires and dams, we can mate them to produce a more ideal animal. We have also learned over the years to not underestimate the potential of our own genetics, and therefore you will notice we are using more sires that carry our own prefix. As our herd has improved it has become increasingly more difficult to source new genetics that will maintain or improve our herd from its current level. That is why we are now focusing on producing more of our own sires and have started introducing more genetics from the Black Angus gene pool to find an outcross. Our cattle must be functional. Though we attend one or two shows each year to network and compare our cattle, our herd is by no means pampered. The cattle we sell are well developed, but never pushed to compromise their longevity. The feedback we receive from our customers is that our bulls grow well under proper management and are docile and easy to handle.

We truly are a family operation, with each family member playing an integral part in the day-to-day operations and success of Wheeler’s Stock Farm.
We have a growing family and want to raise our family in an agricultural lifestyle. We currently earn 100 percent of our income from the cattle, so they have to work for us. With roots in the cattle industry for the past 50 years, we know well the pulse of commercial cattle producers. Harvey and Frances are the founding team that established Wheeler’s Stock Farm, and are the glue that holds the operation together today. They make sure day in and day out that the chores get done, and the kids are taken care of. We are very fortunate that they have given us the support and freedom to pursue our dream of becoming a leading seedstock producer. Michael, Rhea, Ty and Tate are the next generation that are looking to lead the operation into the future. Rhea’s job descriptions vary from wife, mother, accountant, record keeper, show help, night watchmen, etc, etc, etc. Michael manages genetics, marketing, logistics, and finances. Ty and Tate enjoy the farm lifestyle and took part in the Young Ranchmen’s Competition in Swift Current this year. It’s safe to say they are hooked, and each own their own heifers as members of the Canadian Angus Association. We are big supporters and advocates for 4-H and youth. Rhea worked as a 4-H specialist, and like Michael, grew up through the 4-H program. Today, we enjoy giving back to youth development by giving demonstrations and judging shows. Our boys will soon join Junior Angus and 4-H as well. We believe that it is our responsibility to do our part to serve an industry that has done so much for us. Rhea is the past Administrative Manager for the Canadian Red Angus Promotion Society and is currently taking part in the Saskatchewan Angus Association mentorship program. Michael has served on the board of directors for CRAPS and is currently president of the Saskatchewan Angus Association. We hope that we get the opportunity to get to know you.

He is outstanding on paper, boasting actual performance data and EPDs that are off the charts for WW and YW while still offering calving ease. He was raised by a 2-year old SAV Bismark cow, which we feel really adds to his appeal. The Bismark daughters are exceptional females. In addition to his great data, he is impressive in the flesh. He has great depth of heel, is square hipped and is dark red and good haired.
We looked at a lot of bulls last year, but when we found Unanimous we knew he was the one we needed to own. He was built right from the ground up with a big foot, heavy bone, extra length and endless shape through his rib and hip. His dam is also from the Anexa cow family, which is the best at U-2. We were very impressed with the Recon sire group for their hoof quality and spread from birth to yearling. Casanova is one of the most unique Red Angus bulls you will find. He has a massive hip and wide top, and packs a lot of muscle on a moderate frame. His dam Dawn 17Y has entered our donor pen and is a moderate framed, big topped, low maintenance cow that has great udder quality. His first calves arriving now have his thick made, dark red, hairy stamp. We are sure you will be hearing a lot about Casanova in the future.
