This Shabbat FREE BABYSITTING IS AVAILABLE FOR ADULT ED AND THE SERVICE  when Bet Midrash is in session, starting at 9 am each Shabbat in our child care room (left off the elevator.) The sound is piped in so you won’t miss the service if you want to stay with your child. Coming Up BK OMER RUN  Sunday, April 21 at 10 am.  Rabbi Elliott is running his first half marathon with a handful of Bnai Keshet members. Together they hope to raise money for the American Jewish World Services (AJWS), which is doing amazing work to address global issues of oppression through their support of local grass-roots organizations and leaders. The goal of Team BK is to raise $5,200 (2 X 26 – we are running on the 26th day of the Omer—the period between Passover and Shavuot!). MINYAN & ADULT LEARNING: The OMER Teaching CLub  Wednesday, April 24 at 8 pm following 7:30 pm minyan.  Zach Lipner will teach from Pirkei Avot, Ethics of Our Sages, which is the traditional text studied during the counting of the Omer. Tidbits from Talmud with Rabbi Ariann  Saturday, April 27 at 9 am.    Rabbi Ariann will facilitate a study session of interesting pieces from her personal Talmud study over the past year. No experience necessary! Come learn from our fascinating rabbinic tradition. Minyan and Adult LEarning: OMer COoking CLub  Wednesday, May 1 at 8 pm following the 7:30 minyan. Just in time for Shavuot, Marian Golan will teach us how to bake filo puffs stuffed with cheese and topped with sesame seeds. BK ANNUAL RETREAT Friday afternoon, May 3, to Sunday afternoon, May 5, at Camp JRF, South Sterling, PA.  Join us for a unique, fun, educational retreat for all ages as we explore our community’s values - a wonderful opportunity to

Minyan and Adult LEarning Wednesday, May 8 at 8 pm following the 7:30 minyan. Special guest, Roni Yavin, from Elul in Israel will lead a discussion on tradition and modernization. ROSH CHODESH (FOR WOMEN ONLY) Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 pm.  Led by Melissa Schaffer and Marie Ben-Israel, the women’s group marks the opportunity for renewal each month with a focus on gentle movement, chanting, and Jewish themes and topics. FRIDAY NIGHT CHAVURAH: MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY IN NJ: WHAT’S NEW AND WHAT YOU CAN DO Friday, May 10 at 8 pm.  A look at mental health issues in New Jersey with some of the State’s leading advocates, including our own Ruth Lowenkron who will moderate the panel, Judy Banes of Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey, Robert Davison of the Mental Health Association of Essex County and Joseph Young of Disability Rights New Jersey. Topics will include treatment options, bullying, violence prevention, health insurance coverage and discrimination. JEWISH PARENTING BOOK CLUB: UNDERSTANDING DEATH FROM A CHILD’S PERSPECTIVE Saturday, May 11 at 9 am  BYOB – Bring Your Own Book. This time we’ll be discussing the If, How, and When to talk to children of different ages about death and dying. Bring ideas and/or book to share on anything from the personal level of understanding death and dying in a family or community, to bigger picture issues like genocide, war, and school shootings. RABBI DAN EHRENKRANTZ  Saturday, May 11 at Shabbat mornings services.   Rabbi Dan Ehrenkrantz, past Bnai Keshet Rabbi and currently serving as President of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College will be joining us for Shabbat services. During services he will be speaking about challenges and vision for the college and our movement. BK READS  Saturday, May 11 after Kiddush I Am Forbidden: A Novel, by Anouk Markovits.   Follow four generations of a Satmar family beginning with the onset of the Holocaust in Romania to present-day France and the United States. This novel particularly focuses on the lives of two women, who are raised as sisters but grow apart as their beliefs and life styles change. Shefa composes and performs spiritual music, has produced 10 albums, and her liturgies have been published in several new prayerbooks. She combines her grounding in Judaism with a background in Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, and Native American spiritual tradition to make her uniquely qualified as a spiritual bridge celebrating the shared path of devotion. MetroWest News NEXT JCC BOOK GROUP: UNORTHODOX by Deborah Feldman. Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 pm. Born into the insular and exclusionary Hasidic community of Satmar in Brooklyn, Feldman recounts in this nicely written memoir her rebellion and ultimate “escape” from her ultraorthodox life. Unorthodox author Deborah Feldman will be speaking on Thursday, May 9 at 8 pm at Temple B’nai Abraham, just down the road from the JCC. This event will be open to the public (although not free.)
