100 UNTOLD STORIES OF SACRIFICE EXHIBITION A recent ICM survey revealed that only 2% of the British public were aware of the extent of contribution of Muslims to World War One (WW1). Given the current political and social climate around the UK and Europe, and with the centenary memorials well underway and set to continue for the next few years, the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) has been had at work researching and documenting Muslim stories from WW1.

BMHC SUPPORTING FRANCIS HOUSE CHILDREN'S HOSPICE During Ramadan this year the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) in association with the Myriad Foundation held an appeal for people to donate Eid presents and gifts for children with terminal illnesses and life threatening conditions who are being cared for at the Francis House Children's Hospice in Didsbury. We had an overwhelming response and received many gifts which were taken to Francis House Children's Hospice. The BMHC also raised £710.31 one evening during the Taraweeh Prayers for the good work that Francis House are doing. The BMHC gives priority to

ISLAMIC GEOMETRIC PATTERNS WORKSHOP A workshop on Geometric Patterns in Islamic Art and Architecture led by Hasret Brown was held on Sunday 10th May 2015. At the workshop participants were introduced to the profound beauty of geometric patterns from the Islamic world. Participants were guided to construct a pattern with a traditional compass and straight edges. After exploring creative possibilities with their patterns participants tessellated their individual work to form a larger detailed pattern.

HEALING WITH REAL FOODS SEMINAR A workshop titled ‘Healing with Real Foods’ was held on Tuesday 16th June 2015. The workshop was a one day introduction to a theoretical and practical guide on how to ‘heal with real foods’. During the workshop participants learnt how to replace modern, devitalised processed food, with traditional nourished foods.

MEADOWS OF PARADISE - THE STORY OF PROPHET MUSA The British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) in partnership with the European Institute of Islamic Sciences (EIIS) will be launching a weekly Qur’an for young adult’s (QFYA) course from October 2015. The course is designed to be an engaging and accessible study of the Qur’an dealing with many common challenges and issues that young adults face in society today. The aim of the course is to enable participants to comprehensively study the Qur’an, to equip them with relevant advice and counsel taken from the Qur’an to deal with the demands of social pressures and re-inform them about their beliefs. As a taster session for the course, the BMHC organised a two-part course titled ’The Story of Prophet Musa (AS)’ which was delivered by Sheikh Hammadur Rahman, who will be delivering the QFYA course. Part 1: A Prophet in the Home of a Tyrant was held on Wednesday 3rd June 2015 and Part 2: Musa (as) and His Staff on Wednesday 10th June 2015. The series of talks were attended by over 270 people. The Meadows of Paradise lectures will officially be launching very soon with a series of monthly lectures.

GCSE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION This year 50 students took their GCSE Religions Studies (Islamic Studies) at the BMHC. All students did very well once again. 100% of the students gained A* C grades and over 70% gained the top grades of A* or A.

BEACON INSTITUTE RASHID COURSE The British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) in partnership with the BEACON institute launched the Rashid Course at the BMHC in November 2014. The course is designed for those wishing to develop their fundamental understanding of Islam, gain practical knowledge to practice and to disseminate to others. Students will go through a structured course on a part-time basis, consisting of 12 weekend modules over 2 years. The course is designed to fit around other commitments such as full time education or employment commitment. There are two primary objectives of the course: 1 Learning about Islam – To equip all participants with basic knowledge of Islam. 2 Teach your religion – To enable interested individuals to teach the basics of Islam. PRAYER ROOMS

HERITAGE COFFEE STUDIO

During Ramadan this year the BMHC opened its dedicated Prayer Room with its own resident Imam. Congregational prayers are held five times a day and we have received very positive feedback from local residents in the community. The monthly prayer timetable can be downloaded from the BMHC website.

HERITAGE RADIO Heritage Radio will reach out to over 500,000 people who live in the Greater Manchester area. Also with the help of live streaming on the internet, people around the globe will also be able to tune in and listen to high quality beneficial Islamic and community programs and content.

The British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) is excited to announce that the Heritage Coffee Studio and BMHC Gift Shop are in the process of opening. It will provide a comfortable and welcoming environment in which the centre’s visitors can stop and take some time out to enjoy a hot drink and sweet treat whilst browsing the gifts and Islamic wares on offer. Starting small, the shop currently stocks books for adults and children, Islamic educational resources, HMC halal sweets, Palestinian fair-trade products and BMHC souvenir items, but the range of merchandise on offer will grow as the shop becomes more established. Please come and have a look around if you are passing by, the shop currently opens on Fridays after prayer and main event days. We look forward to seeing you.

VENUE FOR HIRE The Marquee is an impressive, modern, purpose built structure, set amidst the stunning backdrop of the BMHC a unique Grade II* listed building, enveloped within eight acres of greenery. With the ability to accommodate banqueting for over 600 people, the option of sectioning-off the marquee into smaller segments for privacy and/or a smaller event is another feature we are able to offer. The Marquee is provisioned to cater for a variety of events all year round – 365 days of the year.
